You're completely missing my point. His past does not matter to anybody else, it doesn't stop anyone from letting him stay on Earth, or fighting alongside them, or any of that. So why should it stop Bulma from having a one-night stand with him? Why the Double Standard?

Having a Enemy Mine teamup and sleeping with them are two completely different things. No Double Standard involved. And it wasn't just a One Night Stand considering Vegeta continued to Shack up with the Briefs.

But Vegeta was staying on Earth for ~2 years before they even knew of the Androids and their was any Enemy Mine situation to be had. Yes, there is a Double Standard.

And it was a one night stand, Trunks said as much. It was later on after the Cell Games that they had a relationship. Unless you mean that it can't be a one night stand purely because Vegeta lives there which makes no sense.

Out of curiosity, the Namekians Virginia killed that didn't get revived by the Frisbee's victims revival wish, did they ever get wished back? Or were they Killed Off for Real?

They had to be Killed Off for Real because Porunga can't mass resurrect and Shenron wouldn't be active again for another year, at which point he couldn't mass resurrect either.

The inhabitants of East City were also Killed Off for Real for the same reasons.

I really enjoyed the fact that Goku wasn't aware his hair was blond. It even sort of makes sense, at least for this version of him. Also, Goku and Piccolo, bros for life.

On the Bulma/Vegeta front... I don't see how they don't make a couple.

Am I the only one who remembers that just like Vegeta, Bulma was sort of really evil?

Lets see... Upon first meeting Goku, she shoots him. In the head. He was 11. She didn't know he was immunune to bullets either. Yeah, Goku did lift and throw her car, but she rammed into him first. So Bulma, upon losing a car (Which was no hindrance for her, she had a ton of capsules to replace it), decides Child Murder is the best option.

Next she discovers Goku has a Dragonball, her first attempt is to seduce him for it. Again, he's 11. When that fails (Because he's 11. And Goku), she then convinces him to come along and bring his Dragonball. She does not tell him the Balls scatter after a wish. Something she is fully aware of at the time.

But what is the wish that deserves such deception and violence? She wants a basket of strawberry. She later changes her wish to the perfect boyfriend (Which while still shallow is at least something you won't find at the local grocery store).

The only difference between early Bulma and Vegeta is she didn't have the power to actually cause mass genocide. Otherwise they are identical: Terrible people who became better and nicer over time through contact with Goku.

...And Vegeta at least has the excuse that his evilness is culturally induced.

On the Episode: I loved that Goku tells "Yamcha, you're my friend" to prevent his suicide :-P

I hope Gero calls them cyborgs, and Goku just keeps getting their names wrong.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

The thing that annoys me about that is, while they are more accurately described as cyborgs, the original didn't identify them as cyborgs either. It comes off like they're mocking the dub for a problem that doesn't originate from them.

Actually, scratch that, 2 of 6 are more accurately cyborgs. The other 4 are definitely androids.

Original term is "Artificial human"

Jinzoningen, which literally translates to Artificial Human and has essentially the same meaning as Android. Cyborg would be Kaizoningen, Modified Human.

Either 2 or 3 are cyborgs, depending on whether Gero modified himself or is just a brain in a jar, but the 2 that are cyborgs are the 2 that Trunks would be familiar with, specifically. Trunks never knew that 19 or 20 existed. Ditto for Cell and 16. So his insistance on them being cyborgs makes complete sense, regardless of what the other androids are.

I liked Goku not knowing he turns blond also. There's really no reason he should know what his hair looks like while he's a Super Saiyan.

Vegeta/Bulma makes a lot of sense to me as well, because Bulma is attracted to physical strength. She kind of grew up into a fighting groupie, and in an episode of the anime, she even laments that she missed her chance to hook up with Goku. For Bulma, Vegeta is like Goku, but better, because in addition to being a physically strong warrior that is very attractive to her, he's also a prince.

Bulma is shallow. Vegeta is sexy, muscular, confident, dangerous, and a prince on top of it all. He's perfect for her.

[up][up][up][up]If it wasn't mentioned in the original either, how can it come across as them mocking the dub? Seems more like they're just mocking the general plot/logichole.

DBZA's had such a profound effect on my brother and I that when he bought a DBZ fighting game because he saw Lani play it we were both mocking Yamcha xD

Really we should have been mocking Cell, considering that numerous times I was able to beat him without taking a single hit. Keep in mind this was beginning Cell, not Perfect Cell.

In most of the DBZ fighting games, once you get good enough, it's not hard to beat anyone on even the toughest difficulties without taking a hit. I have vivid memories of destroying Kid Buu with Yajirobe.

Mocking the dub isn't uncommon in Team Four Star. Jeice's voice comes immediately to mind, as do Narmtastic lines like Piccolo's, "Yes! Yes! I can win! I feel great! I! Can! Do! This!"

Technically Gero is a cyborg whether he's a modified human or a brain in a jar. That brain is an organic part, after all. Even if he's 95% machine and 5% human that would make him a cyborg.

8, 16, and 19 (And while we're at it, 13, 14, and 15) are definitely all machine though. But I do wonder what that blood-like stuff is. Oil? Artificial blood? Fluids to make their humanlike "skin" look softer and more realistic?

I thought 8 was more like a Frankenstein's monster style thing, with a bunch of sewed together corpses. It's been a while, I forget.

@Cobra Prime: Basically all of Goku's friends have tried to kill him at least once. It's kinda funny. Heck, I think Chi Chi reacted pretty violently, although I can't remember whether it was their first meeting or the World Tournament.

...I kinda realized just how weird it is that the Red Ribbon Army is sorta kinda relevant again in the Android Saga. Even though they hadn't been mentioned in ages. And Gero was never in the original Red Ribbon story, making him seem kind random.

He was completely random. Frieza and his father are unceremoniously killed off in order to take a sudden left-turn into a completely different story featuring a brand new villain completely unrelated to the story that's been transpiring, whose only connection to the plot is a very loose affiliation to a previous storyline in which he did not actually exist or have even the slightest involvement in, a storyline which had nothing to do with what this villain actually does.

Dr. Gero is a Giant Space Flea from Nowhere who popped into existence because the writer just decided he wanted to tell a different story, and haphazardly wrapped up Frieza as quickly and Deus Ex Machina-ly as possible in order to get to.

Not Krillin, who just started as the rival (If a bit of a cheating one). Or Kami and Roshi. And most of them had excuses that justified it, either being outright villains, or some misunderstanding:

  • Oolong was a town's local tyrant.
  • Yamcha was an outlaw and a bandit.
  • Tien and Chaotzu were duped by their master into thinking Goku had killed first.
  • Yajirobe had his shit stolen and eaten by Goku
  • Piccolo was sort of a demon and embodiment of someone's evil.

Bulma just decides that child murder, creepy sexual come-ons to an underaged kid and separating a child from his only heirloom are all justified because she wants something that she can buy in a super market.
