Nah, that dude’s the worst. An abusive dick doesn’t get much higher on the totem pole except for the murderous.
So, Tarquin, guess you win the prize!

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Well being "The Worst" doesn't mean they aren't still "among" the worst...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Getting somewhat back on topic, in regards to Yamcha being Relevant period AGAIN ( he was kinda relevant in the arc he first appeared in to be fair), I admit, I'm waiting for the other foot to drop.
I think this might have been a situation where Toriyama did his usual vague notes thing and allowed Toyotarou to interpret it as he saw fit. Otherwise, the first scene we'd have seen was Yamcha lying face first in a pool of his own blood, before we got to see everyone else fighting off the other Mooks.
Which most people would probably consider more realistic I suppose. I admit even I'm surprised he's being allowed to do as little as he is.
One Strip! One Strip! That would imply that Toriyama cares about the human characters.
He hasn't cared enough about Yamcha to use him as more than cannon fodder since literally ever. Why start now?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, but what Yamcha's not doing is getting his teeth kicked in immediately after he starts trying to fight.
Which is how you know this scene probably wasn't Toriyama's idea. Getting the shit beat out of him is literally all Yamcha does. Dude didn't even make it to the Nappa fight.

I think you're letting memes cloud your memory, friendo. Yamcha's treatment by Toriyama in the original manga isn't really that bad. While he may lose, his losses are always Played for Drama.
Against Roshi, his loss is somewhat dignified and he spends the rest of the arc in detective mode trying to deduce Jackie's identity. Against Tenshinhan, his loss is a major motivating factor for Goku. Against Kami, he manages to get one good hit on him with the Spirit Ball and earns Kami's respect. Against the Saibaman, he outright won until the Saibaman did a self-destruct play, and Yamcha's ensuing death was an extremely dramatic moment that motivated Krillin to use a big move to kill all the remaining Saibamen at once. Against Gero, his impaling was presented like a horror scene, and the other characters took his injury seriously. Against the Cell Jrs, all of the characters get their asses kicked and it's a major motivator for Gohan.

The Saibamen are kind of funny as a plot point.
Yamcha had to die in a surprise explosion in order to establish that the Saibamen could explode and kill our heroes. This setup was used, over the course of the arc, to... uh... to kill Yamcha?
That's about it, really. The Saibamen all died immediately after and were never brought up again. Killing off Yamcha before the real fighting even starts is literally the only purpose they served. Nothing else actually happens in their part of the manga. Tenshinhan, Krillin, and Piccolo trash them like it's nobody's business and the plot moves on.

Toriyama may not have done much with Yamcha, but it was arguably the fandom who really cemented his Memetic Loser status.
Then again, that same status is the reason any one cares about him. If not for that, he'd likely be as forgotten as Chiaotzu.
The death pose meme saved him.
Edit: Wow. That's a good point. Did he literally create them just to kill one character?

One Strip! One Strip!I remember that when Yamcha beat that Saibaman, everyone was breathing a sigh of relief. I think Krillin said "Maybe we're all going to make it out alive after all!" So, for a second there it seemed like they had a fighting chance. I guess that was the point?
Wait. Nappa said that the Saibamen were all as strong as Raditz, so maybe the point was to show how much stronger Yamcha had become?
And to show how the new villain is even more badass.
If Dragonball is built upon Goku standing on the shoulders and corpses (both literally and figuratively) of his allies, then the same applies to the villains.
One Strip! One Strip!Apparently the Z-Warriors weren't taking the fight seriously enough...
So what better way to get them to actually see the threat than to kill the cocky one of the group.

x4 That's not really a logical thing to read from that, Kriller's always had a better showing than Yamucha up to that point.
He died just to make them take it seriously-er, because they "were" treating it like a tournament.
Do you think it's safe to say, that tournaments being major events in their lives warped the way they'd do battle?

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has a hilarious substory post Namek where you check up on Yamcha hooking up with dates.
In the game, the Skull robot from Dragon Ball (The elite pirate mook of the Red Ribbon Armor) has been mass produced, to the point where civvies can get them as security bots for self defense.
Yamcha cheats on two different girls, and then they send out Skull robots to attack him out of vengeance, and as gohan, you have to team up with him to fight them off.
It ends with one of the Skull Robots going full Saibaman and grabbing Yamcha, blowing up, putting him in his infamous pose, and then the girls mock his pose. Then they go get ice cream. And even though he lives this time, Gohan thinks its even Lamer then when the Saibman did it! XD!

What about that guy from Hitman Reborn who abandoned his son?
Also Sasuke is a pretty terrible dad.
