I started reading Ranma 1/2 last summer. Got as far as that samurai who wanted to court Akane before my attention moved to other places.
That some of the people were kinda horrible didn't escape me. Seriously, sister whose name I can't remember? Selling indiscreet photos of Akane, I believe?

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. Ranma 1/2 took place in the Past of Dragon Ball, before the founding of the Turtle and Crane schools, and Anything Goes was the basis for both schools.
Sad thing is, Ranma has some moves that would fit in really well in the wacky world of Dragon Ball. Like, there's an attack that draws its power from how emo its user is. The more its user despairs, the more powerful the attack becomes. It can reach its absolute pinnacle state by having its user reflect on what a complete waste of existence they are, and how they have nothing worth living for.
This would be a great way to make Yamcha relevant again!

You joke about Yamcha, but if Vegeta had this during the Android Saga, he would suddenly be the most powerful character in the franchise.
It'd also be useful because of how sadistic and verbose Dragon Ball villains like to be.
- Frieza: You were a fool to ever challenge me! Now your world will know the folly of your hubris.
- User: Uh-huh.
- Frieza: Your power pales in comparison to mine. You will die slowly and miserably, and everyone you know will suffer.
- User: Go on. In detail.
- Frieza: Your life will end as miserably and needlessly as it began. I will reduce your planet to ashes and all you will know in your final moments is how utterly you have failed.
- User: Yeah, baby, keep going. I'm almost there.
Ah, the Shishihadokan (that’s KAN, not KEN), and the Mouko Takabisha. Ryouga and Ranma’s respective Kame Hame Hadouken attacks.
Ranma also has the Hiryu Shoten Ha, which has one of my favourite concepts for an attack: using an opponent’s own power (and emotional state in this particular case) against them.
It’d be interesting stuff to apply to dragon ball.
One Strip! One Strip! It's called the Nekoken. He was trained in this martial art when he was a small child. His father discovered it in a manual of obscure martial arts techniques. Per the instructions, he trained Ranma in the art by wrapping him in salmon and tossing him into a pit full of ravenous cats. After many repetitions of the art, his father succeeded in instilling in him a lifelong phobia of cats.
Unfortunately for Ranma, his father had not read the next page of the manual following the instructions, which clearly state that this art is f*ckstupid nonsense and should never be attempted by anyone.

I watched Ranma for the crazy fights that happened.
There was more to it than that obviously.
