Red Aura is winning.
Ya know, considering they don't fight at all, them learning it seems more pointless.
You'd get Yamucha powering up with the Kai-kai and then Android 20 immediately snatches him during with no struggle on his part whatsoever.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Or, considering how much weaker 20 was than SS1 Goku, maybe Yamcha actually puts up a fight. Maybe Kaioken is used as the explanation for how Piccolo is able to beat 20, instead of just "yeah, Piccolo is just as strong as a Super Saiyan now, I guess because he trained against SS1 Goku, who knows?"

I'm not whining, if that's what you're trying to insinuate. I'm simply saying that this idea of 'Kaio-ken would be perfect for the humans' is pretty silly. For one, it doesn't work in-universe, as the Kaio-ken is insufficient a power-up. For two, they weren't made irrelevant because they lacked the Kaio-ken, they were made irrelevant because Toriyama chose not to use them.
YMMV - I don't think it worked well at all and don't know that many people who did. And they didn't really stay consistent with that anyway, only a couple of episodes really support that interpretation and others seem to ignore it.
I wonder what the point of that tournament was.
A stakeless tournament as the last arc?
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. We can expect the old Kamehama to be somewhere in the top two obviously.
But I do wonder what the other one could be? I feel like they've named most of the likely choices.
And I believe they said the Taiyoken / Solar Flare isn't making the list (which I find odd cause it's super useful) so it's gotta be something else.
One Strip! One Strip!Frieza's death beam is a possibility. Frieza got two kills with it and Cell killed Trunks with it. But 2nd is really high for that attack. I was sure Spirit Bomb would score higher than it, which is makes me unsure if it's here at all. On the other hand, I can't think of any other attack that could score high that they haven't already used, or said wasn't on the list.
Maybe they are lying about Solar Flare not being officially on the list?
Cause I don't know if there's anything else, unless they are going to put in Bukujutsu / Flying...
....hmm? Actually, flying could work. It's so ubiquitous that it's easy to overlook, but it's been a super important technique since the Saiyan Arc.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
I remembered flight in my pseudo-list
, but also, I think they're specifically excluding it, or their words in the video on Instant Transmission suggested such. It's strange, since flight is fundamental to pretty much everything, and is the one skill so ubiquitous and story- and game-changing that it had to be banned from the Tournament of Power.
I was actually also sorely tempted to include the Mafuba (one of few techniques I'll call by its Japanese name) in my personal favorites (which is almost a top 20), mostly because of its iconic history.
Indeed.
I miss the Nimbus for Goku, but there's little doubt that flying is one of the most useful techniques in the series.
One Strip! One Strip! The problem with flying is that it's not a particularly DB-specific technique. If I asked a random person on the street to name a list of ten people who fly, I'm not sure Goku shows up on that list. Certainly if I asked random person on the street Family Feud-style to name characters who fly, the number one answer will be Superman.
We're talking about Dragon Ball techniques, though. If flying is a technique in Dragon Ball, then it deserves consideration.
Teleportation or laser blasts aren't unique to Dragon Ball, either. Judgement isn't made in relation to everywhere else in fiction.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. It's also boring. By the time of Z, pretty much everyone can do it, which means when it comes to setting up interesting fights, it might as well be a complete non-factor. All it did was make the fights easier to draw.
While I'm not knocking the practicality, they might as well put "walking" at #1.

I disagree with it being boring. It allows for different choreography than ground based battles, and also enables things like Goku hanging in the air, pointing his Kamehameha directly toward Cell and the Earth so people didn't know what he was up to with his IT trick.
It also creates drama in situations where Kuririn and Gohan have to avoid flying on Namek to keep a low profile, making them far less mobile than the villains who are able to fly around and advance their own plans.
It's not in your face with how it's important, but it absolutely changes things.
The fact that everyone can eventually do it does make that harder to see, but early in DB we already had the fights of fliers vs non-fliers and saw the tactical value in that. It would have been nice to see a later character who was unable to fly but powerful enough to compensate in fights with flying opponents, but having it be widespread makes the fights more even.

I personally would disqualify flying because it stopped being a "technique" and just became "a thing people do" around Freeza arc. The point where random alien children started doing it without so much of a comment of surprise is what killed it for me. I guess Toriyama did try to savage it with Videl and Goten but, eh.
That said, if I were to include, I would put it very near the top because of how important and iconic it is for the series as a whole. I kinda disliked how it became so mundane, but it did define the series for the whole "Z" portion, so placing it at number 2 is justifiable for me.

No, I think it works in this instance. Whining about how the humans would be useless with or without the Kaioken is missing the point. Power Levels don't matter, if the writer wants the humans to be relevant than they're going to be relevant. In Super, the humans were hand-waved to be as strong as the base Saiyans, and that worked out well. If they had Kaioken, they could almost keep up with Super Saiyan 1 (or keep up with Super Saiyan 2, if they used Kaiokenx100 from the Lord Slug movie). It's more lamenting the wasted potential for plot development.
