....
He's right. There's a certain appeal to Bill, god of destruction.
I should have known Toriyama would blow it.
One Strip! One Strip!Beerus was originally supposed to be the reason the Saiyans were evil, so his name was based on virus. This was also the draft where Super Saiyan God had a cape. Toriyama thought both were dumb and reworked the movie, so now Beerus and Whis's names are alcohol puns, except Beerus still retains some of the original virus name at the end.
Beerus was originally conceptualized as an evil corrupting influence that turned the Saiyans evil. That is not longer canon since Toriyama was all "nah, I think he should be more of a morally gray character".
Presumably, the original draft, with SSG giving Goku a cape, went all-in on "Goku is Superman" and had Goku defeat Beerus in an epic battle of good vs evil. I much prefer the version we got, but it might be neat to see some concept art from that original draft.
Most name references are just the Big Green dub.
Piccoro: *Screams in pain* Freezer, it's you!
(It's actually Cooler)
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.I dont see beerus as grey, he remind me of ryu of death note, he does what he does.
Now, that explain why vegeta fear him so much in the movie, a residual concept of that.
Now, I find weird the idea people consider the manga inferior, I mean usually they said is better, because you dont have stuff like wallpaper zamasu and goku destroying earth.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"For those unaware Sublime is an X-Men villain, an ancient sentient virus or mold that is responsible for why humans violently hate Mutants so much.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't exist anymore or has just been ignored.
I think we all agree that the version of Beerus we got is better than what was originally conceived, even if I think Toriyama went a little too hard on the Saiyans are actually pretty cool bent.
But that's what happens when you often make your villains carry their cards everywhere.

One Strip! One Strip!I think this is misleading. By what we've been told, Toriyama didn't deliberately change the naming theme - he had assumed the pun in 'Birusu' came from beer (the way it's written in Japanese is very close to 'beers') and named Whis following that logic.
Obviously he rewrote the entire movie and took out the virus aspect of Beerus, but we don't know his reasons for doing so.
However, there are two things that have been said that I think are pretty good indicators - the first was that Toriyama wanted to make sure the film wasn't too dark in light of the recent disasters (earthquake and tsunami) that affected Japan. The first treatment of the movie would include things like Goku's friends being infected with evil and turning on him, which sounded really dark.
And the part about Goku's friends turning on him is the second reason why I think Toriyama rewrote that part of the movie - there was going to be a subtheme of "what makes a hero?" - not much was said on this, but it sounds like Goku's friends would be highly critical of him after being infected by Beerus, and there would be an introspection of Goku's "heroism". I can see Toriyama being disinterested in writing that.
Eh. Even these guys don't know everything.
I kinda spaced on the fact that it's the first new technique introduced in that arc for the series (and therefore the first new technique of the anime's Z era). That would probably have an effect on how people see it.
It is a shame we never see it used in it's complete two handed form outside of a blink and you'll miss it scene in the Nappa fight (with no name given to that attack either).
You'd think Toriyama would have Piccolo keep it around.
One Strip! One Strip! That would have been interesting to see actually.
I would hope he does decide to come back to it. It's something new to explore, and Dragonball always needs that. I know he's really doubling down on the Goku is not a hero attitude, but that in and of itself is questionable. While Goku may not fly around looking for rights to wrong or wear a cape or anything like that, he's always made an effort to help others as soon as he knows something is wrong (even if he does it in his own I wanna fight strong dudes no matter how dangerous they are, and then let them go so I can fight them again way) and I think Toriyama is trying too hard to forget that.
There are lots of ways to be a hero. Goku is one in his own way.
Edit:
I had always assumed the extra long charge time was because the attack wasn't finished yet; he was still perfecting it and the Raditz fight forced him to play his (remaining) hand early and take a risk on it. I was surprised when I found out through this life ruining website that he just lost power due to missing an arm...which does make sense.

One Strip! One Strip!...back in 2011 I think. Maybe a little earlier than that. It's honestly been a while.
One Strip! One Strip!

Remember when people thought it was Heat instead?
I remember when Beerus was "Bills".
I was a little disappointed when we got an official translation for his name. Still am. "Bill, God of Destruction," is such a stupidly mundane name that it greatly appeals to me.
