oh good, the return of "this thing is bad because I can sum it up in five tropes worded consdescendingly". The thing that applies to literally everything ever created, and certainly not to the exception of DBZ.

Wasn't YGOTAS the first big abridged series?

I think Lani did Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged first, though I'm not sure about that. Either way, it was the double whammy of Yu Gi Oh Abridged and DBZ Abridged that really galvanized things.

No, Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged came first. Little Kuriboh started the whole trend, and then it took off from there.

There were actually two big waves in Abridgement history, the first was between Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged and DBZA, where people were just rushing to make an Abridged series, any Abridged series, of anything, just to try and be a part of what Little Kuriboh had created. Most of these Abridged series were just made by one person, and Lani's Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged was part of this initial wave.

The second wave came after Team Four Star formed and DBZA got big, and was mostly people trying to copy ther style by upping the production values, hiring more voice actors, and focusing more on creating memes and multi-episode brick jokes. Eventually, this wave died down and now there are only a few ongoing Abridged series on Youtube, though Team Four Star tried to make a third wave with their Abridging contest they held a while ago.

Don't forget Naruto Abridged: while it's mostly forgotten today (and not particularly good), it was the second abridged series alongside Yugioh that made abridging popular.

There was also a sort of sub-wave of abridgeMENT videos inspired by PurpleEyesWTF.

I remember finding Vision of Escaflowne Abridged. It actually abridged the entire series, something not a lot of abridged series can claim. I mean, there were only 26 episodes of Escaflowne, but at least they finished. This is my fav moment from it.

hbi2k has the most complete abridged series to his name out of every abridger out there, including Team Four Star as a group. He's a big part of the early abridged series boom and the way they parody the original material.

Making the Kai Abridged two parts is missing the point of making a Kai Abridged.

Huh. We were just talking about Bojack Abridged on the main thread (well, talking about Bojack period and his rare position of being able to fit into canon).

I mean, Kai abridged being two parts probably means everything in the early Android Saga and then everything with Cell, so there's at least a clear demarcation point, and given the length of the whole arc for the abridged, it kinda makes some sense to split it if they don't want the Kai video to be enormous. Kai two was about 7 minutes at about 2/3rds the arc length and that arc was filled with a lot of cut filler. Android saga they focused on more stuff, so if they wanted to keep in the main stuff in the shortest form that'd still probably be double Kai 2 if not more.

Kai 2 also straight-up cut out the Ginyu Force in order to hit that 7 minutes. "Goku's ship killed the Ginyus!"

Couldn't be helped really, the Ginyu Force were basically padding, albeit enjoyable padding.

Yeah, the Ginyu Force is pretty much just filler.

Enjoyable as hell filler, but filler nonetheless.

I actually gotta agree with that.

I mean, I love the Ginyus, but were they really necessary?

Ultimately, their purpose was to drag things out a bit more until Toriyama was ready to have Goku fight Freeza.

But damned if they weren't awesome at their job.

"Missing the point"

I feel like they'd know what the point was... And they're still condensing 30 episodes (and effectively 2 seasons) into 2 videos.
