I am fully prepared to be the only person in this thread that likes Joyride Entertainment at all. It doesn't bother me if people don't like something I do, but as someone who saw all 22 episodes of the series I felt like I had to say something in its defense due to the circumstances here.
It is not a dumb gross-out show. Far from it.

Bad first impressions weed out unwanted viewership...
That's funny.
It's not intentional.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. You know, despite being the one who started the hatefest, I don't hate Joy Ride's MHA Abridged. I don't even dislike it. I was just pointing out it's incredibly divergent.
And yeah, it's got a lot of super edgy low-brow jokes (all the points I made earlier are true. The entire joke of Iida is that he's incredibly stupid... he's basically a horny version of Caboose from Red Vs Blue. And I'm not going to go into what they did with Uraraka's Ron the Death Eater-ness), but it's not poorly done. Like the original animation they've done is solid, the voice acting is great, there's serious pathos in a lot of scenes that were already done well in the original but are completely recontextualized in the abridgement. And it's a dumb ass joke but I fucking love the Levity Chicken. Bawk bawk.
It's just super divergent. I gave it quite a bit before I dropped it because at that point it had diverged so much that I felt like I was watching animated fanfiction which I simply had no interest in.
To get this back to DBZA (since this conversation has gone on so long I legit thought it was the "Abridged series in General" thread), DBZA does some major character exaggeration but almost none of the main characters are shifted too much and the story beats are basically identical. DBZA is kinda nothing without familiarity with the source material. I mean, it's still a lot of great jokes but without knowing DBZ and DBZ memes, you miss at least 50% of the humor. Joyride's MHAA might actually be a better stand-alone series in that regard.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.See, there are three-ish abridged series that go on different tangents to their original story that I consider shining examples for what an abridged series is supposed to be like. Notably, it's the characters that do the most changing rather than the story itself in most instances.
One, SAO Abridged. The source work is widely considered awful and unsatisfying, so it's rewritten and characters change to reflect this. Completely separated from the original work.
Two, Yugioh Abridged. The show is faithful to the source material, but is lampooned at every step and the characters are just going along with it because why the hell not. 50/50 on closeness to the original work. Would include Hellsing Ultimate Abridged's first half (1-4).
Three, DBZA. The original work is beloved, and thus its plot points are not changed, and its characters are exaggerated but faithful as well. As close to the original work as possible, just with jokes. Also included, Hellsing Ultimate Abridged's back half (5-10) and FF 7 Machinabridged.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.I do admit that Joyride's show is pretty different in terms of plotting and characterization. I got so caught up in Sharknado's eariler post that I brainfarted and said something dumb. Which then lead to a bunch of unpleasantness that I should have honestly expected.
Now hopefully that's the last of this tangent.
The problem with a lot of other Abridged series is that most of them were trying to hop onto the craze when it first took off, and thus were mostly just copying what was most memetic about DBZ Abridged. Off color jokes about "adult" things, memes, drastic OOC for humors sake, attempts to create memes, etc and so on.
Team Four Star then went onto have their actual writing and approach to the series grow and mature (giving it more longevity, among other things) while still keeping the parody and humor angle, where everyone else is stayed with the same irreverent jokes and focus on memes and such.
Also, one thing TFS has always been great at that lots of other Abridged series aren't is character humor and dialogue. Even back when the joke was that X character was built out of fanjokes and memes, they could still write those characters in a smart, funny way. Not always, but again they got better at it.

And the entire genre was never meant to go beyond a single episode. Yu Gi Oh Abridged was, literally, the cliffs notes of the entire series - Transformations, friendship speeches, childrens card games, Screw The Rules, pulling the right card out of your butt, and you've basically summed up every single episode of that show. Yu Gi Oh is just that stupid, simple and formulaic.

@Melon: Well, when the guy who supposedly watched described it like that, you'll forgive me if I don't feel very encouraged to give the show a chance.
And I even like innapropriate humour, but a linne must be drawn somewhere.
