Oh, so it's not just Goku that steals...

Wait, Vegeta wasn't even there.

I guess it's obvious when you realize you can control blasts you already fired, but still.

Maybe after 273 tries Vegeta just realized on his own he should try something different.

Is that 273 tries in one go, or 273 separate Beam Spams?

Knowing Vegeta, it's probably both.

Its not like the manga ever had anyone use it again at all.

They say 17's energy bubble thing is his signature move. Now while I've never seen anyone else ever use that, I'm pretty sure that's the only time 17 ever uses it, or even has the chance to use it. Unless he makes big deal of it in Super?

He uses it a ton in Super, he even makes a bunch of variations of it.

  • Spinning the barrier around himself to knock away opponents trying to hit it.

  • Forming a barrier around an opponent to render them helpless.

  • Forming a barrier around his hand for a super punch.

  • Layering barriers, one in front of the other. Both as a line of barriers to protect himself and layering barriers around a teammate to protect them.

I always did like that fight for Buu's batshit crazy (and the regenerates his head up his own ass scene).

He's a nutty guy. It's pretty much the same reason I liked old school Broly too. You get a lot of smug snakes who lord the fact that their stronger over everyone, but someone who just takes sheer just in personally making sure you get rekt is entertaining in its own right.

Hell, I love that part where Buu just starts laughing like a lunatic for a few seconds...then he starts slowing down...then just stops...and starts the fight again.

Even the manga fight was kinda neat, despite it being way shorter as usual.

Toriyama had a lot of fun with Buu in general.

Kai added in a really bitchin song to that fight.

Honestly, I don't know why I didn't rate this battle higher, and this review might have actually changed my opinion on this fight. Everything they're saying is true (well, I disagree on a few minor points, but the major ones I agree with), this is a great fight that deserves to be rated higher.

Before watching that, I had quite a few fights rated higher than Goku vs Kid Buu, including the criminally underrated Goku vs Fat Buu, but I'm not so sure about that now. Goku vs Fat Buu is still criminally underrated, but I feel like I'm only just now seeing the real appeal of Goku vs Kid Buu.

I always love this fight, wether it be in an amv or watching it fully, there's a lot of to love here.

This fight makes Kid Buu a fun villain or force of nature, his only goal is to destroy everything but he certainly brings a lot of entertainment from his crazy and creativity of his powers, his hilarious expressions and insanity.

How the planet gets terraformed from each blows, Kid Buu being torn apart from every hard blow Goku deals to him, seriously one of my fav things is how intense this fight feels, every blow the give to each other I can even feel it.

Interestingly enough Goku actually starts fighting differently once he switches form, when he is SS 2 (which is also his best showing in this form aside from Majin Vegeta) he fights more...acrobatic for lakc of a better word, then when he switches to SS 3 he starts fighting way more hard and strong, it's kinda interesting.

Also, this fight is decided through other factors aside from strength, which is also a plus.

I would include the second round as well, but it's still a really good fight.

It's called a lek. The thing Buu has on the top of his head is called a lek. At least it would be called that if this was Star wars.

It's clearly Cinderella. And Disney owns Star Wars, so, Buu's thing is a lek.

I don't remember if it's the dub or not, but one thing I really didn't like about the anime version of this fight was the assertion that Goku was deliberately sandbagging so that Vegeta could have a turn.

It implies that Goku could have beaten Pure Buu if he'd just fought seriously from the start. Which is not the case and undermines the threat Buu poses. Goku could have beaten Pure Buu if he was able to power up to his full strength in Super Saiyan 3.

Which he can't. First because Buu won't give him the breathing room to do it, and then SURPRISE SECOND REASON because Super Saiyan 3 bleeds ki so fast that even standing still and focusing entirely on storing energy, Goku just keeps right on draining until he runs out of ki and gets kicked back into his base form.

Due to the inherent drawbacks of the form and the relentless berserker style of his foe, SSJ3 Goku could never have beaten Pure Buu. Claiming that he totes could have but f*cked it all up trying to pander to Vegeta's sensibilities just adds a superfluous extra bit of "Dumbf*ck Goku" characterization that was never warranted or deserved.

I like that switch. SSJ3 is extremely powerful but bleeds energy like a smashed fire hydrant. The best thing one can really do with it is drop all subtlety and go in like a bulldozer, trying to make the most of your massive strength boost for the short time you have it.

Super Saiyan 3 is basically like the Invincibility Star from Mario. Don't be fancy, just plow through enemies until you hear the music cue that tells you it's done.

...Speaking of the dub, I know Kid Buu doesnt talk in the manga (although, he does say "Gonna kill You!" At one point, which, honestly, "Me Buu, Kill You" basically conveys) but I weirdly like his tiny bits of dialogue?

Like, especially, "ME Buu, NOT YOU!" when he fights Fat Buu.

That one line feels earned and deserved, and what Buu vs. Buu needs.

Establishing the Buu hierarchy. Or Buuarchy. Hierbuuy? No, Buuarchy, right the first time.

Goku could have beaten Pure Buu if he was able to power up to his full strength in Super Saiyan 3.

I always interpreted this to mean "a fully charged Kamehameha would do it, but he won't give me time to breathe and charge the damn thing". A strong punch from fresh SS3 wouldn't work, it would take an attack that can be charged to be stronger than the user being charged to full power to do the job.

[up][up][up] that's understandable, but it doesn't really bother me all that much since the fight against Kid Buu does run on the heroes being idiots to keep drama.

Goku and Vegeta don't fuse or even work together to overwhelm Buu because "my saiyan pride", they don't bring Gotenks or Ultimate Gohan when they are revived to waste Kid's ass (though in the anime version Kid Buu is stronger than Buuhan according to Goku), use the spirit bomb (a move that never worked) to defeat him, etc.

I guess it was made to make sense of the fact there's two rounds of this fight (Goku transforms into SS 3 twice in the anime, so he ha more stamina there).

It's stupid, but that's how the anime kinda is.

I don't think they ever said Kid Buu was stronger than Super Buu having absorbed Gohan. But I do remember them saying that he was more dangerous, because he kept blowing up planets.

As far as I can tell, Buff Buu still basically has Kid Buu's personality, while being stronger than Super Buu, right?

...I dunno, I kinda wish Buff Buu got to fight. I dunno why, honestly, I guess I just like the design a little?
