my god you're right, I like the canadian subtitles but some of the jokes they go with are extremely annoying, like the piccolo dad joke you mention

well yeah, I do think it's dumb on people's part more than TFS but it's been years and they haven't learn their lesson so...

That's not doing any harm, actually. Goku isn't a real person with feelings, so they can't be hurt by people's interpretations of him. Meanwhile, the business is not in any way harmed by people's perception of the characters unless those perceptions actually drive them away from the series.

To my knowledge, nobody has ever stopped liking Dragon Ball because TFS's Bad Dad Goku jokes.

The only thing that harms is discussion...and by that I mean it may potentially lead to some annoying discussion.

How they handle Goku in some episodes isn’t perfect, I’ll admit that and the Canadian subs can be grating at times, but I love tfs. Plus they have added in scenes from the manga that weren’t in the original show which is impressive. Also yeah the piccolo father thing can wear on people’s nerves since... well Goku isn’t a terrible father. I’m pretty sure his dad ignored Raditz before Goku was born at least Goku took Gohan out for training. The whole “Goku is a bad parent” joke works very sparingly. You know, sprinkle it here or there but don’t pour all the salt on it or you will make fans mad. Like in dbz super there was this scene where went “Oh you mean my other son.” lol some people took that as he forgot he had Gohan as a son, but it came off as more as since Gohan is an adult in that series and has his own family and kids that Goku would figure he’s not into fighting like Goten is. Yeah, ever since DBZ abridged I’ve been binge watching that and episodes from super and the buu saga. Lol I love DBZ abridged and regular. Both are awesome in different ways, plus both made me love Vegeta so... I’m pretty happy.

I actually saw plenty of people who don't like DBZA and the influence it has, I saw someone say that they consider a mistake and think the franchise it's better off without it

I don't agree with them but those people exist

I dont think so. I doubt TFS has any actual influence there.

They draw from the same source material and some of the recurring jokes were always there.

EDIT: Like, Kaiser says he sorta wants to take credit for a ghostly version of Nappa that showed up in Super in Krillin's episode.

I can buy the dub having TFS inspired jokes, but I don't actually know if there are any.

TFS has definitely influenced how people see the series. I don't think they actually started anything new, but they're definitely part of why some character interpretations have become more common.

Overall though, I still find the whole of Abridged funny and wouldn't actually want it gone.

Like, Kaiser gets really, really mad. When someone claims that Super stole 17 being a Park Ranger from DBZA.

It honestly scares me how mad he gets.

TFS got it from a Toriyama interview that Super probably also got it from.

I'm glad Kaiser tries to stop those misconceptions, too bad that a lot of people don't listen

I thought the park ranger was always a thing so it never would have occurred to me that it would have been an invention of TFS or Super.

What is the boat reference about?

Makes sense why people would think that though. Not a lot of people would think to look for random interviews years after the fact and just assume that TFS made up their own goofy lore like they did for a bunch of other characters.

17's desired wish in the Tournament of Power. Just came up in the latest Super dub episode actually.

After all 17 did fall off the face of the Earth till his short cameo in the Buu Saga & even then it looks like he's become a robber than a park ranger.

It was never that clear.

You'd think 17's appearance at the end of the Boo saga would ring bells...it's ranger-esque.

Vehicle upgrade...17 wanted a boat to reach Roshi's island, then he mentioned it after being revived.

But have they stopped watching the original series because of it? Has anyone ever quit the Dragon Ball franchise - as in, stopped watching the shows, playing the video games, buying the merchandise, etc. - because Dragon Ball Abridged exists? Because that is the only way the series can quantifiably harm the original IP.

Conversely, has anyone ever started enjoying Dragon Ball because of the Abridged series? Because that's the quantifiable benefit that the show provides. I know at least three people who never gave Dragon Ball the time of day until Team Four Star got them interested in it.

I get people not liking it like that. It’s not for everyone. I get that, but it sucks when people say we’re better off without it. If it wasn’t for DBZ abridged I don’t think I’d be as happy as I am now and honestly I don’t think I’d be a writer either and I definitely wouldn’t have the love for animation that I have now. It’s those little things, you know?

Popo's close up in that one episode when he is threatening to ban vegeta from the hyperbolic time chamber is definitely a nod to the Memetic Psychopath Popo TFS created

I love the music they produce. I've had the Alexander Anderson song from Hellsing Ultimate Abridged stuck in my head for weeks.
