[up]It was definitely "skank". unless it was "harlot" in one of the other translations.

[up] Yeah, IIRC it was in BT3 pre-/post-fight dialogue.

It never failes to amuse me that 18 always has a voice-line for her hatred of Zangya.

To the point she even called her a harlot once.

Patriarchy Law clearly dictates that all female characters must despise each other on sight. Bonus points for being catty about a man or generic slut-shaming.

I suppose the abridged version will brush off Krillin being smitten by Zangya since in abridged he genuinely loves 18. That and he already banged her, why risk it?

Actually, have they ever explained why Trunks returns?

Apparently, Bulma tells Chi-Chi that he wanted to go back to the past one more time to fight in the tournament.

The legend has returned.

Is it worse or just as bad as Blue's dialogue towards all the female fighters being more vicious in the same game?

Just read on ExecutiveMeddling.Anime And Manga this entry:

  • In Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters, Funimation hired members of TeamFourStar to voice the characters in the So Bad, It's Good Cell Games Reenactment in a sequence with many references to Dragon Ball Z Abridged and DBZ memes in general. Toei Animation found out about this thanks to a Toonami promo that used an audio clip from that scene and ordered Funimation to re-edit it, replacing TFS's audio with that from the original dub of DBZ. Fans were not pleased. Then in late 2017, Toei leaned on Funimation to stop hiring members of Team Four Star for their dubs, effectively getting them "greylisted".

Combined with the history of repeated copyright strikes against DBZA, which seem to be simply out of petty hate rather than genuine offense at perceived copyright infringement note , I just have to ask... What does Toei have against Team Four Star to go so far?

Well TFS does make their business from what is basically the re-dubbing of a show they show own.

As harsh as it is its understandable.

Nah, it is Japanese corporate culture at its most obnoxious: Creators are unquestionable, lowly fans have no business going near official stuff, "they are stealing" panic...

Remember Nintendo trying to illegalize Game Shark? Same mindset.

And it is quite tiresome if you ask me.

Huh now that I remember something, there is irony in the fact many creators get started making fan-content in the first place.

[up] Oh yeah him too.

Indeed many mangeka & artists get started making doujins & fan-art of show’s they like.

Though keep in mind most of its pornagraphic of course.

I’m honestly surprised Toyo doesn’t have any porn under his belt that I know off.

Also it's ironic considered that the Super anime has taken a few inspirations from DBZA.

The most blatant is this one

The real irony is DBZA is hugely responsible for Dragon Ball Z remaining relevant in the western hemisphere. Anecdotal, I know, but I and every other American I know in real life only kept interest as long as we did because DBZA kept the material fresh and on our minds during the space between the end of Z and the new movies.

Doesn't Funimation have a pretty secure claim on the rights to Dragon Ball in the west? Seems that way for the past decade, to my mind.

Part of me wonders whether Toei can actually do anything, or to what extent.

In a weird way, and not to start anything per se, I wonder how a big fight between a foreign company and an American-based one would go down in the current political climate.

With all the tariffs and the talk about trade deals and everything.

...Like, I doubt the current POTUS would actually start anything over anime, but like. I dont think it would be a good look either.

The surprisingly good fighting games in the Budokai/Tenkaichi series also deserve some credit for that. But yes, Dragon Ball was on its way out as a fandom before Team Four Star gave it a renewed surge of popularity from fans both new and old.

Videogames also helped keep Dragon Ball relevant. At least the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi series did for me.
