Honestly I love the Great Saiyaman bit because it's kinda telling about Gohan as a character. Like, Gohan before this is a bit bland. He's a good natured, smart kid who doesn't like to fight. He studies alot.
The whole Great Saiyaman bit sort of tells you so much about Gohan, how he sees the world, what he finds fun and cool. Even sort of how Gohan sees the people who surrounded him as he grew up.
Plus the bits with Videl are great.
The helmet is fine. It's actually worse when he doesn't wear it and goes for the Bandana and sunglasses. Plus the helmet sort of sells the whole Tokutsasu thing he's got going.

That too, but I feel in a weird way, there's more Goku and Piccolo in there.
Like, think of Goku saving Gohan from Nappa. Gohan's whisked on Nimbus, and Goku's in the air, hovering like a baddass, away from them both. It's a super hero entrance.
Think of Piccolo saving them from Freeza, Piccolo interposes himself between Freeza and Gohan and Co, his arms crossed, cape billowing in the wind.
I can totally imagine Gohan remembering those moments and going "That's how I want people to see me when I save them!", but he's such a total spazz and a nerd and he gets so much into the role, he WAY over compensates.
I wonder why he'd model the Great Saiyaman on the Ginyu force in particular. "Oh yeah, I remember that giant dude with the broken teeth that broke my neck. The people he was with were cool. I wanna make a superhero costume revolved around that." I agree with the previous poster in that it's probably more inspired by Goku and Piccolo.
The legend has returned. My favorite thing about Dragon Ball when it came back in Battle of Gods is when they finally showed that Vegeta was a dork too.
Like, the fact that "Super Saiyan Bargain Sale" was in the heckin' manga should have done the job, but to just eliminate any doubt.
...Speaking of, if there's one thing I noticed going back and comparing TFS's Vegeta with the manga is. Like, Vegeta is a lot more confident sexually?
There's multiple moments where Bulma does. Basically anything, smirking at him, making a sing-song flirty voice, winking at him, where Vegeta. Doesnt quite blush, but he looks away and avoids eye-contact, and all Vegeta can say in response is "vulgar woman".
Canon!Vegeta is kind of a prude. And Bulma is. Not that, even as far back as Dragon Ball, where Pilaf thought the greatest sexual torture was blowing a kiss, and Bulma freaked him and his gang the fuck out because she's into freaky shit.
It's basically the only thing about Trunks/Mai in Super that works, because she always had a really childish, repressive view of sex even as an adult. That she thinks holding hands is the most depraved thing imaginable.
And when TFS Vegeta first did the "energy beam during sex" gag and then lets out a smug and satisfied "yup" at the end. It almost doesnt fit? Certainly not with canon.
The hypermasculine, machismo ideal of a man as a "player" or the saying of "a woman in every port" is just not Vegeta at all. Bulma might actually be the first female of any species Vegeta ever met, considering as far as I can tell the only woman we ever see involved with the PTO is Linda Young Freeza.
Yeah, apparently if Saiyans develop enough to make two separate governments, those governments will inevitably go to war with each other until there's only one left. They're just too eager to murder each other, peace and love isn't an option.
I do agree that Abridged Vegeta is a bit more confident than canon Vegeta is. Abridged Vegeta is on a fairly even playing field when it comes to insulting/flirting with Bulma, while canon Vegeta just kind of lets her string him along all she likes. I don't think canon Vegeta is unfamiliar with women entirely, he probably just hasn't met many that he wasn't actively genociding.
Vegeta's a prince, I'm sure Nappa treated him to prostitutes once in a while, but he's probably uncomfortable around Bulma because she's acting independent and taking the initiative in flirting with him, which I'm sure he's not used to.
...Suddenly I'm picturing an alternate take of one of the DBZA lines in some weird version of the anime where Bulma's spectating on the sidelines.
BULMA: "What he understands is he's about to pound you so hard, I'm going to be jealous."
VEGETA and TRUNKS: "OH, CAN WE NOT?!"
To fit with canon personalities just not. Events.
Had a weird thought today.
Would it be possible to abridge Dragon Ball FighterZ? Obviously they will have to finish Buu first, but imagine if they tried to abridge the story mode
Uni catGohand "is" nice to Kriller...
Cell is nice to Yamucha...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Tien and Yamcha are Vitriolic Best Buds (though it's one-sided, since Tien's the only one who dishes), but yeah, Goku, Gohan, and Tien are the only ones who really care that Yamcha still lives and breathes. I don't think Piccolo, Chiaotzu, Bulma, and definitely not Vegeta would care if he just got Thanos'ed one random day. And I do think Krillin would notice, but probably not dwell on it too much.
The powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.Yup
"I made boom boom!" (In the very first episode)
"Yamcha, can I stop being the rope now?
"

Okay, the rope line was great, but that's still not much, considering how much Yajirobe and Korin got.
I hope they Abridge the original Dragon Ball one day, I'd love to see what they could do with the material. And before anyone says it, yes Dragon Ball was more comedic, but no, that doesn't mean that TFS couldn't add anything to the material. Akira Toriyama and Team Four Star have very different styles of humor, and TFS could totally do something very different with Dragon Ball just by approaching it differently.
@Kaiser Neko 19h19 hours ago More I won't lie: The fact that so many people refer to Cooler's move where he slams you into the ground in Fighter Z as "Planting a dumbass tree" make me unreasonably proud.

The Great Saiyaman outfit is only really stupid-looking because of the helmet, it looks really good without it. Gohan should have stuck with it instead of wearing his dad's gi.
