Like, half of the threads I commonly frequent aren't on my Watched Threads list, though not this one. The Dragon Ball Manga thread, MCU thread, and One Piece thread are among them, however.

I don't think Toriyama does last names so i guess Gero is his name.

It’s not like Broly majorly breaks the lore or goes against any important optimism themes like the Shadow Dragons do.

Also, his full name is clearly 'Doctor Gero.' The question is whether that's Eastern or Western name order.

It's a part of the setting that family names are rare and outdated. It's how Videl finds out that Gohan is Goku's son (as they share the Son family name).

Remember, Goku is a hillbilly.

They should have just not directly tied them to wishes, as it's ultimately hollow

That's definitely an improvement. It's nice that someone called out the dragons on their shit, even if it was dub only.

I never watched the original Dragon Balls, any of them. Z, GT, I'm not currently watching Super. I have fun watching you lot go off on tangents.

So, I thought the reason people liked the Shadow Dragons at all is because they wanted their to, at last, be a consequence for death, or at least a consequence for avoiding the consequence of death.

So, to reel the topic back to DBZA, what kind of dynamics do you expect to see in Season 4 between characters?

I personally want to see how much Gohan and Krillin change between seasons since they definitely will not have the same Running Gags in Season 4

I can understand that, but I think they also needed the balls to have the scale they wanted without going too dark.

I think the only problem came with the Namekian balls, especially Moori's balls in the Boo arc. After that it's difficult to have tension.

I'm interested in how TFS will write Goten and Trunks. In canon, they both kind of play both halves of the Straight Man and Wise Guy routine in their own ways: Trunks is the sarcastic and rude wise guy while Goten is the nice and pure-hearted straight man. On the other side of the coin, Goten is the naive and goofy wise guy while Trunks is the mature and knowledgeable straight man.

Their dynamic is actually kind of similar to a younger and nicer version of the Goku/Vegeta dynamic, now that I think about it.

The double Straight Man and Wise Guy routine is a very hard one to write for, and while canon didn't explore the comedic potential all that much, TFS, if they decided to keep that general dynamic, could produce some genuinely gutbusting comedy if they really put the effort into them.

I think that sorta works. Really well, actually.

The details might be different, but the effect of "Videl is able to figure out Gohan's family because his name is weird" stays the same.

They better learn to like it in my onion.

Or at least not let their dislike impact their writing overly much.

I like the analysis of Goten and Trunks's dynamic from a comedic perspective.

Namekians have asexual reproduction AFAIK.

Not sure how it went down in any of the other dubs but I'm pretty sure that's not how it went down in the Kai dub and that's certainly not how it down in the manga where only the Son family have family names.

They also hated Broly, rightly so, and we got some phenomenal content out of that. I wouldn't worry about it.

yeah, and most of that content was throwing shade's at Broly

But they did Broly right because his power IS MAXIMUM

And i think they will handle Goten and Trunks just fine.

I wonder how long will the Might Mask stuff will last. I suppose this 18 is smart enough to notice the obvious two holes that have eyes in the waist (Unlike canon where she had to wait for them to go Super Saiyan, THEN she figured it out)

I guess you may be right and they do put their bias aside to do something interesting with Goten and Trunks

Though the only thing I expect is them to become butt monkeys who get shaded by practically everyon

The abridged Broly seemed to be a begrudging admission that they kind of understood his appeal.
