I was hoping they would use the panel from the manga that showed the Cell Jr's organs and colored it to match.

In fairness, I vaguely remember Cell turning on a dime in the original as well.

Cell is that kid who enjoys a competition, but only while they are winning. The moment he realized Gohan was too powerful for him to beat, he got angry and tried to flip the metaphorical table.

He's pretty much the stereotypical Call of Duty kid in terms of dealing with getting his ass kicked in other words.

Goku saying no-one was on par with him inmthe afterlife isn't trying to be an Exact Words situation to allow some super awesome off-screen guys for him to fuse with that he juuuuust wasn't the same strength as. It ties into the rest of the arc, where the strength of these characters had reached a level that no-one else possessed.

And how strong Paikuhan is is a bit ???? because the anime doesn't portray the differences between forms very well, anime Goku is on par with Paikuhan is base, Super Saiyan and Super Kaio-ken.

I wonder if the constant Take That! to Vegeta in part 2 are to set up Vegeta's actions against Perfect Cell in part 3 being less about Trunks got killed and more him trying to make up the constant slights to his ego.

Guess we'll prolly know Friday.

Double post, but from Twitter:

So, with the credits, Episode 60 Part 3 is approximately 30 minutes long.

I'm disappointed that they completely cut out the vast majority of the actual fight between Gohan and Cell. They could've at least implied it happened off-screen via SFX while showcasing some of the observers' reactions.

@Saiga: The thing is, jinzouningen (人造人間) is a common term in real-life Japanese for both robots and cyborgs. Toriyama didn't invent the latter sense of the word.

Well they usually cut a lot of stuff & even then it’s a Curb Stomp Battle.

Why stretch it out longer than it has to be?

Cell never had a chance no matter what he did.

10 minutes for beam struggle, 10 minutes for the wishes and everyone going home and 10 minutes from Trunks dealing with the timeline androids.

Sounds good. Now when Bojack?

They said the Future Trunks stuff was going to be a separate episode.

I don't mind it when they cut short one-sided battle as much as when they cut short fights where the two combatants are fairly evenly matched. I get the feeling the SSJ2 Gohan vs Super Perfect Cell is going to get cut down a lot, and I don't recall it being terribly long in the actual show either.

Have they started casting for the Buu Saga yet? That would be a sure sign that they're going through with it.

That's roughly how long the fight was in the manga.

The last thing the abridged seeies needs to be doing is dragging these scenes out. I don't want another Part 1 on our hands.

[up][up] Really? So Cell only took a few blows in less than a minute, realized that Gohan is too much far more powerful than he expected for his comfort zone and immediately opted for the planet-busting Kamehameha?

I'm oping that this is the real start of Vegeta's semi-Face–Heel Turn. I've been waiting for this almost as much as I was waiting to see how they'd portray Gohan's transformation. Vegeta going from "I don't listen to bastards" to jumping at Super Perfect Cell.

The way things are going though, I suspect it's going to be more about Vegeta's ego than Trunks. Which would kind of suck given how they wrote Goku's Heel Realization here. Vegeta should have a similar wake-up call.

That's not rare in DBZ to be honest. I don't see it as surprising.

Super Saiyan 2 Gohan and Super Perfect Cell never fought. At all. Ever. This is the order of events:

Trunks gets blasted
Vegeta attacks Cell
Cell knocks Vegeta out and fires a blast at him
Gohan takes the blast for Vegeta, breaking his arm
Gohan gives up and Cell charges a Kamehameha to finish everyone off
Goku gives Gohan a pep talk and Gohan decides to fire his own Kamehameha to try and hold off Cell's Kamehameha

Aside from the beam struggle, Super Saiyan 2 Gohan and Super Perfect Cell never fight each other.

Yes, Gohan only punched him two times (after tanking a punch and doing the slow-walk) before he tried to blow up the planet. Then Gohan blasted him, Cell regenerated and went bulky, whiffed a few punches, and then Gohan kicked him once, causing him to vomit up #18. That was it. The whole thing, from Gohan finishing the last Junior to Cell getting knocked down a form and deciding to blow himself up, lasts 3 chapters of about 15 pages each. And most of that is talking.

Amusingly he actually kicked him in the head, not the gut.

I get the feeling the SSJ 2 Gohan vs Super Perfect Cell is going to get cut down a lot, and I don't recall it being terribly long in the actual show either.
It's less that they're going to cut it and more that the anime already stretched it beyond belief. For example, that hour-long, two episode-long charge-up and beam struggle? Two chapters in the manga, about 29 pages. Properly depicting it wouldn't be more than a few minutes.

I deeply regret selling my complete collection of the manga, especially since I've rekindled my love for Dragon Ball in the last few months.

At least I still kept my copy of Sandland, Toriyama's true magnum opus.

Does Kai have the original music or the Falconer soundtrack?
