See at first I was gonna say it doesn't work that way, but then I remembered that Goku did walk Krillin through forming a Spirit Bomb with the remaining energy (he lost most of it when Vegeta monkey mouth blasted him).
So yeah, that could have worked. Though Krillin still needed King Kai to tell him how (or rather when) to throw it.
One Strip! One Strip!Like I said, Trunks forming a Genki-Dama would be fine if Kaio-sama was worked into his training under Kaioshin. Instead of being able to do it just 'cause or having Goku make one for him, the explanation could have been that while training with the Kaios, he learned how to do that thing that one of the Kaios teaches.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Eh, that'd be a stretch. The Kaios and Kaioshin aren't that close together.
Besides, even if he knew the Genki Dama, it took the entire population of Earth to form one powerful enough to kill Boo, who is hilariously weak compared to Fused Zamasu after all that God escalation. So a mostly-dead Earth creating a Genki Dama stronger than Zamasu? You can easily explain it with Zamasu being weakened that much, but at that point you wouldn't even need the Genki Dama to justify it.
Rage Trunks would be stronger than any Genki Dama he could form in that circumstance. So that'd be really dumb.
Besides, it being powered by 'friendship' is something that would work if DB was already that kind of series. But this is what, 14 story arcs in from Bulma meeting Goku? It's a little late to throw in such a generic concept that should have appeared at some point prior if it was ever a thing. That kind of thing should be part of the series, not pop up once with no explanation and then disappear.
The power of friendship's won the day in a couple of movies. Like Broly! Friendship defeated Broly.
Specifically, Goku's friends lending him all their power defeated Broly. But that still counts!

Yeah, power of friendship...

Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. It's not even that, it could have fit into DB if it had actually been part of the series from the beginning. It just very clearly isn't.
That said, I do dislike the trope when it results in literal power-ups because that's really on the nose and tacky. And series that use it like Fairy Tale get really obnoxious about it.
What's obnoxious about shoving rainbow beams of pure, concentrated friendship down a person's throat to lobotomize them into being a better person?!
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Movies don't count.
And Broly should never count.
As for working in King Kai earlier, that's why he should have been a factor in Trunks' timeline before the latter went to the future instead of just not existing. Like I said, Goku should have immediately went to King Kai to lend what ever after life help to Gohan that he could after learning about the Androids (since he should have been allowed to keep his body in that timeline as well), but instead, King Kai just fucks right off and doesn't exist, so as to ensure that Trunks has zero help when Gohan dies.
One Strip! One Strip!
The issue with that, is if Kaio helps, there is no Bad Future.
Because Kaio could find Namek, and tell Trunks/Bulma where it is so they could fly there and use their Dragon Balls.
To justify that, you'd have to say that Kaio wouldn't assist because he'd be interfering in the affairs of the living, and the Androids aren't a threat to the universe.
The Namekian Dragon Balls are a pretty big problem. Personally, I think that Guru should have held on until after the Namekians relocate to New Namek, then died there and left them without a set of incredibly powerful Dragon Balls. Earth's Dragon Balls are easy to work around.
Kind of a stretch for Guru to hold on for 3 Namekian years though.
So... what I'm getting from this is that Twilight Sparkle can use the Spirit Bomb.

This song needs more love.Yes! With bare chests glistening in the sun as they reveal their huge, throbbing battle powers to one another! Thrusting the very embodiment of their manhood into each other, grunting and heaving until one man successfully penetrates the other!

◊ friendship.
...fuck. Didn't think of that. I was focused on him learning to fight from King Kai.
I mean, I guess King Kai just never checked out Earth again (since he wasn't watching what was going on during the Cell saga).
I mean, there's still the matter of why Goku wasn't allowed to keep his body like at the end of the Cell saga, but maybe since he died naturally, they just let his soul move on and all that.
One Strip! One Strip! You'll find out soon enough. The Goku Black Saga begins right after the current arc (the Pacifier arc as you've dubbed it) ends, and there's only one episode left before that happens.
One Strip! One Strip!

In Dragon Ball, the word Human does not refer to Homo sapiens, the word for that is Earthlings. Human refers to "sapient mortal life".
Personally, I'd be 100% okay with the Spirit Bomb Sword scene if Goku had been the one to start the Spirit Bomb for Trunks to absorb.
