It's best not to describe anybody as a good significant other in DB...
There kind of needs to be an example of such...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. We should ignore that and not use one stupid moment of writing to characterize their marriage.
One Strip! One Strip! There's always Gotendo...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Basically, it was because they cared more about having the plot go the way they wanted then making things make sense, hence keeping 18 out, and keeping Goten and Trunks away (in the movie version, but not Super).
Buu...well I've made my feelings on them cutting out Buu very very clear. I'm sick of them taking that shortcut.

Or... get Kuririn to do it. Because the threat isn't at Marron, and it would only threaten Marron if the frontliners failed to defeat Freeza and his men over near East City. There is absolutely no reason to send Kuririn over 18.

It's the only example we have, though. Though my point wasn't to judge it just on that scene but say we haven't seen enough to call them good spouses.
What a character or set of characters is shown to be doing onscreen is generally assumed to be indicative of what they're doing offscreen. For instance, if every time a character pops up onscreen, he's grifting people, it's generally assumed that he spends a lot of time grifting people offscreen unless it is explicitly noted in the scene that grifting people is unusual behavior for him.
It's sorta like an expanded version of the Tethercat Principle. This can create issues with characters or dynamics that get very little screentime, especially romantic couples. If every time a couple shows up onscreen, they're fighting, then the audience assumes that most of their time is spent fighting. This is true even if we only spend a combined five minutes with the couple over the course of thirty years.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah. As much as I love Krillin, and as great as it was to see him seriously back in combat (even if I admit that the entire mass battle sequence was poorly handled since the mechanics of DB mean that Gohan alone should have been able to beat that entire group by himself), I admit that it does make more sense for Krillin to stay and 18 to go (outside of the fact that Frieza's men would have a easier time finding Krillin since he does have Ki, but only if he somehow forgot to keep it low).
But since she's the woman, her power doesn't matter unfortunately, so he goes and she stays.
One Strip! One Strip!Goku's undeniably a bad father, but it's not surprising, considering he's literally a brain-damaged, uneducated manchild who pretty much raised himself.
Really, he and Chi-Chi are basically the same. Neither of them are bad parents through any malice, but they're both clearly ill-equipped to properly raise their kids healthily. Chi-Chi's overbearing with Gohan, but she wants what's best for him. She's just, you know, not exactly on the money about what's best for him. Goku... well, he's objectively an absent father. Sometimes by circumstance, but more often than not, by choice. Staying dead after Cell is near indefensible. Yes, he thought staying dead would be safer for everyone. Except that's inexcusably stupid and given the myriad of ways he could have communicated with his family if we was dead, the fact he didn't do that more is just... bad.
But like I said. He's not just an Idiot Hero, he's brain-damaged hero. We can't expect that much from him.
