On the subject of other shounen protag fathers, while he's no longer the protag, I'd wager that Naruto is a lot worse than Goku. In Goku's case, with one exception, he's with Gohan as much as he can be given the circumstances and he's shown being a pretty great dad during what few moments of downtime exist in the series. Naruto, meanwhile, is actively neglectful to his entire family.

Just to repeat what I put in an edit on my last post, I often feel like I play devil's advocate too much, because while I may not agree with something, I end up disliking the way it's traditionally framed. And then it just goes on and on, and probably gets boring for everyone.

We're all just a bit confused at why Piccoro decided to learn basic human psychology at a time where it wasn't apt.

[up][up]That too. But I often find that even when I generally agree with the outcome, I have disagreements with getting there. I might be a bit of a contrarian.

Naruto has a highly demanding political job, thogh, yeah? And he does make the attempt to juggle that with his family life, but it backfires when his son resents his attempt to literally be in two places at once to manage that.

On the other hand, you have Sasuke, who ditches his family so hard that his daughter is convinced, for a time, that he's not even her biological father. Though he evidently had Moon ladies to hunt down.

I think Naruto's situation is that he can take time off, and all that he's doing isn't a part of his job description in the first place. He just feels super obligated to help whenever he can, at the expense of his home life.

Although, he's apparently said he doesn't really get how a father is supposed to interact with his son because of how he grew up, so he might just be trying to avoid doing so. At least partially, anyway.

[up][up][up] Naruto has the ability to create hundreds if not thousands if clones of himself to do the work for him. Cell phones exist after the end of the series IIRC and Sasuke has one he uses to keep in contact with Naruto he can charge with his lighting jutsu IIRC yet never bother to contact his family.

It's stated that Naruto always spent time with Boruto and paid him tons of attention until he became Hokage and was all of a sudden always busy. Calling him neglectful is less true than accusing Goku of the same, especially since the series shows him trying to use clones to do both and illustrates why he can't (Boruto resents when a clone spends time with him instead of his dad while the real one is working, Shikamaru scolds Naruto that sending a clone to do his work while the real one spends time with his family gives the impression that he's not taking his duty seriously and hunts him down when he tries it).

The general plot of Bort the Movie is very forced, and dumb.

If I remember what I read of Boruto's manga, Naruto ends up overworking himself in his job as Hokage (is that a spoiler? Eh, it's the end of Naruto's managa, and this isn't the Naruto thread, so I'll say yes), to the point that when he does try to use clones to handle everything, he ends up losing focus eventually and having them go poof, because he's very tired. One example of this is, extremely unfortunately, when one such clone poofs at the end of Boruto's birthday party. Which Bolt really resents, since that means his dad couldn't "really" be there for him.

He also calls and sends letters and such, but his son really, really just would rather he be there in person.

It wasn't Boruto's birthday, it was the little sister's. Also, Naruto was just doing paperwork, something a clone easily could have done and wouldn't have been a big deal if it poofed.

Vegeta admonishing Trunks about Goku's Saiyan pride and Goku immediately proving him wrong might be my favorite bit from this entire series. You know where the setup is going but the delivery is still perfect.

Boruto is a little shit but Naruto's a dumbass so I guess it balances out. Like someone else said, he could have just left a clone to do the paperwork since it doesn't matter in the slightest if it pops. He can just create another one and off it goes.

I don't view the clone and Naruto as being distinct given the continuity of memory between clones.

If you're going to ignore the entirety of Naruto's parenting except for the one moment in the birthday party while ignoring the justification, you can't pretend it's any different than people who do the same for Goku's parenting regarding the moment with the senzu bean for Cell.

Discussing Goku's parenting is like a boomerang, it will always comes back. Really, it's not that unusual. Ever long running series has certain topics that are going to get tons of discussion, no matter how much they've already been discussed.
