Goku being able to say he's there with the same tone and level of happiness as Gohan is able to say he loves him is kinda funny, but not quite. Mean. To Gohan. Like, the fact that Goku doesn't say he loves Gohan back. Honestly doesn't read as deliberately hurtful or neglectful or apathetic.
It's emotionally incompetent, and demonstrates Goku's an idiot.
Like, it might be. A bit patronizing? I guess? But aside from that.
Jokes makes characterization inconsistent...
It seems to be a mostly Namek thing...and 3 of the movies where it's amped up...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That's a bad thing...
Movies stink...
But, characterization is the same...relative to the saga...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.Honestly I don't have an issue with TFS and jokes I disagree with. It affects how funny I find their show but precious little else. My main issue on the matter is how much their thoughts and jokes permeate into actual Dragon Ball discussion but that's on the fans.

This song needs more love. The movies are explicitely non-canon (I don't remember which one, but there's a scene of Vegeta saying "This is so non-canon it hurts"). I mean, just try figuring out where in the series timeline World's Strongest is supposed to be set; it's like trying to piece together what state the Simpsons live in.

Different universes? Doesn't seem relevant yet...
I think the first Cooler movie is Goku at his shittiest, dad-wise. He definitely crosses the line from naively ignorant to outright malicious towards his son with lines like, "If I ever have a son," or "Step away from my food, my best friend, my two emergency foods, and my son. In that order."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.He also didn't hesitate to shield Gohan from an attack...even if that was because it was an actual scene in the movie.
I...just don't want to talk about this Goku is a bad father thing anymore. I feel like it's gonna become a black hole topic...
Huh. Black hole topic? Do We Have That One?

I think we kinda have a trope for that: Flame War. Kinda.
We just happen to be a bit more reasonable about it. With a side of humor.
"I can't agree with that defensive reddit post saying he's never been a bad father rather than an incompetent one"
The issue is that that can border into being a bad father, sure Goku is not abusive or anything like that but like other said he dosent really act much diferent than everyone else which at times can be really bad.
Also because of thise 16 dies and that is unforgivable, everyone must feel shame about that, SHAME!
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"

This I completely agree with. I was actually thinking the same thing about the others never learning Kaioken.
Sure, it's pretty much useless since it'd never let them hang with the fighters that come later, but when you think about it, that's still isn't a reason to not try and learn it. Since Goku can teleport them anywhere there really wasn't a reason for them to not try at least, beyond the fact that it wasn't part of the plot.
As for Goku and his status as a shitty dad...no. Not touching that shit. I'm just done with it, both from a serious standpoint, and a joking one.
