"We here at Team Four Star do not condone child violence. We do, however, find it hilarious."
As a side note, what made me more angry than the episode itself was the reaction of the chat and what TFS said about the topic after the episode ended.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The original inspiration was Bug Catching and how competitive it gets with who can catch the biggest.
my problem with Goku is he decided to tell Gohan at the last minute that he is going to fight cell. That just does not make any sense at all. We can at least excuse the dumb idea of giving cell a senzu bean to pride and making the fight fair or Goku was that bloody confident in his son, but Gohan should have been in on the plan a lot sooner then just before the fight.
"Shall I use you, or make you mine... I'm not so sure what I'll do." - DorthyAnd even then, Goku was ultimately wrong about how much power Cell was really holding back, so for all we know that fight could have gone in Cell's favor if it wasn't for Super Saiyan 2 (and the potential rage boost Gohan could have also been getting with that.)
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!That's a problem we all have.
Honestly, the only reason I can come up for that is that Toriyama wanted the Gohan intervention to be a surprise, even though it was already fairly obvious that he was going to do something at that point, and probably not that hard to figure out where things were actually heading. So a writing flub, basically.
Watched the episode. It honestly wasn't that bad and I even chuckled at most of the jokes surrounding Goku sending Gohan to fight.
But the context of it is different from the original for the sake of playing up the bad parts and completely ignores the fact that Gohan already ''knew' he was stronger than Goku, he was just in denial about it.
Also, the Dende jokes need to die. Please stop, they aren't funny. Nice cameo by Videl at the ending there and they're blatantly setting up her attraction to Gohan in the next arc.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Could be that Goku didn't realize that Gohan didn't realize how strong he was. To him, Gohan surpassing him was probably the most obvious thing in the world, so of course Gohan would know that he was just as ready as Goku to fight Cell, right?
In this episode, maybe. But there's some stuff in previous episodes that plays up that Gohan is casually on Goku's level, and doesn't quite realize what that means. Like, in the last episode, there was the body-splitting thing where he was able to keep up with the non-divided Cell's movements and was surprised that the others couldn't.

I have a message from another time...Here's the Twitch VOD.
They start talking again after the episode ends which is around the 45 minute mark. You can also expand the chat to see what they were saying at the time.
Dende's voice is back to normal...
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice.TFS have been really inconsistent with how they've omitted some canon lines establishing Gohan's strength while adding new ones that support the original. But cutting it here makes the previous lines wasted.
It's going to be pretty hard to go from that scene to 'oh yeah Gohan actually IS stronger than Goku'

oh, i thought it would have been a typed response
ehhhh i feel like i'm not going to want to watch it, are you able to summarize?
And makes that remark about, "Well, then you're going to have a lot of trouble when he starts getting serious."

I loved a lot of the Cell moments in this. His speech as Goku charged the Kamehameha was amazing, and I loved how he got so angry at the forfeit that he started calling goku "Kakarot". It makes sense that his angriest cells are Vegeta's.
