The only real difference is that Gohan actually believe he was stronger than Cell, or at least that he could become stronger, and for some reason he suddenly thought reasoning with him or doing nothing were suddenly legit options.
Vegeta was going to kill everyone to achieve immortality. Frieza was going to kill everyone in an act of bloody revenge for keeping him from achieving immortality. Cell was going to kill everyone 'cause why not, it's a thing to do.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, back when it was still Capsule Monsters; observe.

pokemon suffer what I call of Pokemon syndrome, the setting premise and world kinda run on bellisario maxim and not question thing to much: a bunch of creature are trap and fight against each other....yeah is going to draw looks.
the same thing happen to superhero to time to time, is inevitable.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I mean, the original premise didn't involve you catching them at all, instead you had a Charisma stat that would influence if a Capsule Monster would befriend you or not. Trainers were also original going to be involved in the battles themselves, which might explain all the trainers that had whips in the finished game.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Man I hate when this thread gets clogged up.
Didn't have a chance to watch the episode until now, but I loved it. Especially how they framed the Instant Transmission Kamehameha. That little "pop" sound never fails to elicit a chuckle from me.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I come back to four pages of arguing about Goku's parenting. I mean, most of y'all seem to be of the opinion that the episode wasn't that bad (I liked it) but arguments like this is why I don't interact with the Dragon Ball fandom too much. It's like walking in a mine field, I'm terrified of saying something that'll spark another argument about power levels or Goku's parenting or Gohan being screwed over by Toriyama or the Videl and Spopovich fight or the entirety of Super. Like, it kills my buzz for enjoying the main series or the abridged series when most of the discussion is arguing all the time about one of a few constantly brought up topics or getting so pissed at TFS being kind of wrong about key shit. I'm not saying don't go into discourse, but after a while it does get tiring to come here and see these arguments going on.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? It's the kind of thing that makes people happy when old characters don't get focused on as much...and circling discussions happen less frequently.

but that is what we got which is the reason pokemon get so many darker and edgier fic or coment like that, the whole setting is like "just move along, nothing to see here"

I used to think like that but after being in Bv S thread it make more used to this kind of stuff.
More like Dogfighting really.
Plus honestly, Pokemon's attempt of in-universe explain the issue only come off as awkward and hilarious. It comes across as Suspiciously Specific Denial. When it's not outright self-contradicting (Ash being offended at Pokemon fighting each other in the first movie, for example). Or digging yourself deeper. "It's not dog fighting, the Pokemons are sentient you see!"
"Uuuh."

In regards to Pokemon, I present to you Sinnoh's myths
. A few of them touch upon a lot of really interesting lore for the series.
In regards to the Ash thing, I'd like to point out that that example it's purely a dubism. That line is nowhere to be found in the Japanese.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The following is spoilered for being an opinion on the "send Gohan out" moment. If you wish not see any more of that, it's hidden.
What's interesting about this moment is that yes, Goku is being a bad father here. But he's not being an evil father. It's not a moment of, like, intentional neglect or abuse (see: early-fatherhood Vegeta).
Instead, it's a moment that happens because Goku has failed to understand the kind of person his son is. Goku makes the mistake of seeing his son as a small version of him, and assuming that he thinks like he himself does. Goku is a fighter. A martial artist. A battle-junkie who lives for the thrill of defeating a worthy opponent at his best. Gohan isn't that. He never was. He'll fight, sure; he wants to see the evil defeated and peace restored. But he's not burning with an inner flame at the sight of a powerful opponent. He doesn't want to fight Cell at Cell's best. He doesn't want to lose control and Hulk out, if he doesn't need to. Goku put Gohan in a situation that he himself would love, because he has failed to understand that Gohan doesn't love that. And I feel like that's how this moment has been played in any given dub of the show (Piccolo has this whole speech that boils down to "he isn't you!", and it directly contrasts Vegeta's whole speech about how Goku would never back down from a fight like this.)
It's a very "Hank Hill fails to understand Bobby's hobbies" moment. But more lethal.

I think the most common justification is that Pokemon are Blood Knights by nature.

No beer?! But if there's no beer, then there's no beef or beans! That's not really what happens, though. Goku acknowledges that Gohan is different to him, he just assumes Gohan isn't stupid enough to try politely asking a mass murderer to stop.
edit: The reason I think this episode sparked the discussion is because the ending ruins everything. They play things out mostly similar to the show, but then they remove the scene where people actually react to Gohan's power and immediately cut to him being beaten up by Cell, which is a massive change that makes it look like Goku sent Gohan to a fight he had no chance in.
I thought the episode was okay - Goku and Cell's flirting is getting old, but their interactions are still generally funny, and Satan is great - despite the creepy as fuck Dende scenes and including Gohan in the innuendo. But that ending is just awful.

Yeah, that tactic won't work until the next big saga.
edit:
I figure the next episode will get to him actually showing his power, followed by him trying and spectacularly failing to deter Cell from wanting to fight him. The ending was a moment that could happen at any time in the fight. This was a just gag of contrast, but I don't expect that they'll entirely have him read as ouclassed until he snaps. If they do, then I'll have reason to question it.

I have a message from another time...

IANCE is technically not permabanned, but he hasn't responded to the mods so I assume he just quit the forum.
