Fairly certain that's not what he was talking about. Point three is just them making jokes, the entire point of the series.

Nah, that seemed more unnecessary than anything...
1 times 0 basically.
But I don't see them adding anything like that to the actual Cell games.
Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie. Check out my art if you notice. That was just them adding stuff we learned from interviews with Toriyama. I don't see anything wrong with that.

About as organically as it could be seeing how 16 is complete machine...
If not programming a personality from scratch, it makes sense for it to be there at least...kinda.

Gero already had an explanation for his motive. He reveals himself that he was part of the RRA because he shared their dream for world domination (if that wasn't obvious enough) and Goku ruined that dream. Since Gero still intended to take over the world, Goku was an obstacle.
His son being a soldier for the RRA becomes incredibly silly when they portray him as nothing but a loving son in the video, completely glossing over what being part of the "we literally want world domination" RRA means.
So yes, it was entirely pointless. It makes more sense that the evil dick who experimented on people and wanted world domination would be motivated by someone foiling those plans than it is for him to need to make the revenge about something more sympathetic.

I loved it. I felt like it did a great job of introducing this bit of continuity from Toriyama's interviews into the series. It also helped fans who haven't seen the show to connect more emotionally to the android plot. I watch the series with a couple of people who've never seen DBZ or read the manga, and they were completely sucked into that moment.
One even actually said, "Oh my god," out loud once Goku's offscreen Kamehameha started charging up and she realized what was hitting the base.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I'm aware of the trope but the existence of it does not mean it is always appropriate or handled well. The reference to 17/18's real names was a good example of working in the interview information.
The 16 background was a Voodoo Shark already, as it sought to give explanation to two factors that had already been explained in the manga in a more logical and consistent way. The way TFS introduced it to the abridged series doubled down on the voodoo.
