It's not obvious that it's a ship, nevermind living.

Wasn't this Tin Man from Star Trek TNG at one time? That's a very good example.

Well, the page history doesn't show any other pic. The only change to the pic was when @Fast Eddie moved it over to the right. Let's see what GIS has to say.

My favorites, in order are: [1] [2] [3]

The first one looks best to me.

The first image isn't working for me; it's directing me to a notice that it's hosted by Tripod.

[1] this is the image (you had to copy and past the link to see it)

that being said I prefer Tin Man (the second image)

The ships all look more alien than alive to me to be honest. There isn't anything that says they aren't just normal space ships.

I will say that the picture ^^there, at least, shows a lot of qualities resembling some kind of Lovecraftian fish monster (or a jellyfish). It looks explicit enough to me like something that could likely "swim" though space on its own, rather than fly through it like any other spaceship.

It's definitely the clearest to me of what's been suggested so far. I tried to look for a suitable picture of Nemesis The Warlock's Blitzspear ship, which is supposed to be alive, but I couldn't find anything that works without there being a mess of text to explain exactly what the heck it is.

Here's a Tyranid hive ship. I'll admit it's not perfect, but it should do a decent job of looking recognisably organic.

What's precedent ever done for us?

I propose a Shadow battlecrab or a Vorlon star dreadnought

If a chicken crosses the road and nobody else is around to see it, does the road move beneath the chicken instead?

Either Deboss' first pic or the Tyranid hive ship work for me.

Here's another hive ship pic...it'd need massive resizing and cropping, but the paint job actually makes it look organic.

Uh, am I the only one who thinks these ideas still convey the idea of an organic ship, rather than sentient character who happens to be a ship?

Organic ships are included in the definition.

But a hell of a lot more empthasis seems to be placed on the idea of the ship being a character, rather than a tool which happens to be sentient.

We've got Organic Technology. I swear we've got something for ships as characters.

Living Airship from Magic The Gathering. Not sure if it looks alive enough...

If it doesn't have to be a spaceship, we could go with something like this.
