How so? While Sentai doesn't really do added features, I haven't had other issues with Sentai releases.

Oh wait I misread. I was thinking OVA aka it only gets like half an hour tops.

Yeah, no. This will be the first season...

OH. I completely misread what was being talked about. The only connection my head has to yuri + villainess is I Favor The Villainess and I guess a few more obscure series no one cares about right now. So my head went to "They are putting I Favor The Villainess onto a DVD, must be an OVA, must be terrible because it would just be lesbian jokes if they're cramming the series into OVAs."

My bad.

Cough. Yes, Maria/Katarina is one of only like two plausible pairing in that series that isn't trash or totally impossible to believe could ever happen.

Huh, so apparently The Expression Amrilato is getting a sequel game. As someone who really enjoyed the game, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the sequel is like.

Talking of games. Katahane VN remake was planned to be translated a year or two ago. I wonder if there were any updates.

Just bought a short series called "Goodbye My Rose Garden" (Sayonara Rose Garden), set in late Victorian England.

It follows Kujô Hanako, a young Japanese bookworm who travels to England to meet her favorite author, the elusive and mysterious Victor Franks, and is hired to work as a maid for Lady Alice Douglas. Alice tells Hanako that she can help her find and meet Victor Franks… on the condition that she helps her commit suicide. It turns out Alice likes women and it’s hardly a secret to anyone in the house, so she sees only two options to preserve the honor of her family − either marry her fiancé or die in an "accident". But maybe Hanako will manage to show her another path…

It’s… really fucking good. It has all the classic elements of a Victorian period drama but uses that context to further the characters’ motivations and it makes the ending all the more satisfying. From Victor Franks aka Alice Douglas being a spark for Hanako to take risks and enact her progressive ideas to Alice being trapped in the social norms of her era and terrified of what awaits her (the story takes place shortly after the death of Oscar Wilde) while changes are slowly starting to occur around her (her sister Jane is secretly a sufragette), nobles like Alice’s fiancé Edward doing everything they can to preserve a system that’s on its way out, and the pollination of progressive ideas throughout the world (Hanako was taught by a British teacher and saw her own fair share of discrimination against women in Meiji Japan). It’s never preachy but it’s all very on point. The ending had me smiling like an idiot for several minutes.

The story does have some Contrived Coincidences here and there − like the story’s main twist or the facts that the teacher that Alice loved as a teenager just so happened to be the one who taught Hanako, and later on that Hanako just so happens to meet a French maid who’s also implied to be lesbian. But that’s not too bad overall.

That does sound really good. I'll have to check it out.

By the way, I make it sound like a super melodramatic story, but there’s also quite a bit of levity in it. tongue

One thing I’m grateful to Citrus for is that it at least convinced French publishers that there was a market for yuri in the country. We’ve been getting some excellent stuff these past few years.

I don’t know if Rose Garden is available in English though.

Cool then. In the afterword, the author teases a spin-off about Suzanne and Marie, hopefully it’ll happen someday. Even if it’s just about the two being friends, it could make for a great slice-of-life comedy. [lol]

Hi thread:

This is a note that Yuri Genre is in TRS because some tropers feel it is redundant with Queer Romance. I and others have argued that it can be kept if the page is refocused to be about yuri as a publishing term/genre. With that said, could some of you weigh in on the thread and how best to rewrite the description on Sandbox.Yuri Genre to reflect this?

TIA!

I admit I'm glazing over trying to keep the arguments in the TRS thread straight. Why would we fold a page about a specific genre from a specific country into the broad umbrella of Queer Romance?

It's been fun.

No kidding, Yuri is a subtrope of that and publishing Genre, merging it would also mean merging Yaoi and Bara.

It would also mean that Shonen, Seinen, Josei and Shojo etc should be merged into a mass of nothing.

Like, seriously. What purpose would this serve? If Yuri Genre isn't distinct enough to stand on its own feet despite unique elements like onee-sama school systems (see: Maria-sama, Assault Lily Bouquet, so on), Class S and its peculiarities and history, and so on, then what subgenres of Japanese fiction are?

It's been fun.

T Hey alrady deleted a bunch of tropes that were just fine and now they want to remvoe genere-specific things. WTH? Guys, this looks not like optimisation but like descrimintaion according to specific groups of forum visitors.

[up] Basically every Japanese thing is getting segregated to 'Fan speak' that isnt allowed to be linked and thus ignored. Its really racist.

If you want to argue against it, you need to go there with specific arguments about how it's distinct without getting super aggressive about it. Dunno if anyone is already doing so since I stopped caring about actual trope pages years ago, so I didn't check the link.

[up] I already tried to convience the mods about a few things. Doing it for the 4th time is to much. They just do not listen.

It just bothers me that TV Trops mods seem to be concerned about site polpularity dropping but for the last couple of years they do everything to make people lose the desire to go here even more.

Speaking up as well. If they do decide to cut the page then there's nothing we can do about it, but.

It's been fun.
