I posted in the modding area to figure out how to get the metal bones, and metal organs to work and the general idea behind why lets see how it works.

Already got a good suggestion from someone who created a terminator playable race. Should be helpful.

We can so do the tin blood I was not thinking when I placed the tokens.

Courtesy Link of his file He pointed me to it. So I am going to look at it and see what we can do.

Best Goblin Snatcher last name. Powerincest.

Ok you guys remember that fort I told you about that I am playing with the mod that had World War being fought on it's door step? Finally finished playing my turn in the succession game with my wife. So I take my adventure gather up my stuff and make sure I have max party. I go to my abandoned fort. I start fighting off the Xelic Bugmen who are all over the place as well as some Zephyr's, Sand raiders, Goblins, etc etc.

All told there are 9 different assorted forces both living and dead all over the place. So my merry band proceeds to die horribly at the hands of the living enemies they come to me I throw a few arrows and they run like hell or die. I stop to rest by the main entrance for a day then proceed to continue my sweep and clear off any surviving forces that were openly hostile.

Suddenly alligators. The first one killed my last party member but I lop its head off for the trouble. A friend comes up from the river below he gets stabbed repeatedly until his head sort falls off. Wondering why the hell there were suddenly alligators in a temperate area like this I go check the lower river areas and have a very holy shit moment when I look into the river below. Having another war in the river is an army of alligators, carp, sea lamprey's in fresh water river, pike fish, and long nosed gar. Fighting a war in the water. I watch as a fleeing xelic bugman jumps in...yeah that was bad idea. The water critters stop for a moment and pull him to pieces...yeah no way I am getting into that river. So the river comes to me. Seven gators come out of the water to play I wound them and knock them into the river and it of course turns red because they are falling into the fish they were fighting with.

What the hell is up with this place? Is it the eye of madness? Did I just start land spanning war by accident? Or are they all out to loot the fort? Really this is fucking nuts. Its like someone said hey for all future knock down drag out wars well have it right here on this dwar fort for the lulz. Then the wild kingdom decides to pitch in for added chaos.

I do believe I want to reclaim the fort a second time clean up the debris and build a shit ton of lethal traps to guard the entry way. It looks like if I can reclaim the fort a very strong military is in order luckily they will have provided me with base materials for that.

I will say this. All the loot there is worth clearing the fort for. Pity I can't make a stock pile of loot for any characters that comes after this hero.

I have flooded a fortress I just made two days ago.

I first thought that it would be a good idea to dig a stairway nearby a brook. My dwarves being the intelligent individuals they are, decided to dig upwards...

...right through an aquifer. [lol]

The dwarf miners, after completing the staircase, went back down into the depths and sealed off the flooding area behind them.  *

Then I sent them to build a machine-run pump system  * with a channel to the brook...

...without making a floodgate. sad

Then all the dwarves ran screaming while the tunnels for the pumps became flooded with water. Then they thought that it would be a good idea to wall up the hole where all of the brook water was coming in, except they kept canceling it because they were starting to drown. Several hours later I made another surface pump, multiple channels, had dwarves nearly drown, built an underground cave for the brook to flood in, and accidentally dug into the staircase. It was at this point I realized that due to my proximaty to the edge of the map, I'd never be able to unflood the area so I abandoned the fort.

Lesson Learned: Draw out how I am going to lay out my pumps on graph paper before hand. Next build said pumps in anticipation that I will flood my tunnels with water. Finally build the freakin' tunnels.

Aquifers are not for everyone. >.>

Yes. Whether you keep it will remain to be seen.

I'd advise reading the wiki- it has some good tutorials. Because remember: DF's got a big learning curve learning cliff MASSIVE, SHEER EXPANSE OF STONE RISING UP INTO THE HEAVENS, COVERED IN !!*Adamantine Barbed Wire*!! AND LAVA DROPS, ALL WHILE ARMOK STANDS ATOP AND LAUGHS AT YOUR PITIFUL ATTEMPT TO SURVIIIIIIIVE.

So, um, it's a difficult game. :D

Yes.

It can be quite engrossing. It doesn't require a fast computer. And it's free!

There is always the problem of when to start, of course; he just released a new version a couple months ago with a lot of updates.

Actually, you can run into problems if your computer is bad- World Gen is abominably slow and even known to overheat computers, and once you get over 100 dorfs... Yeah.

Mostly because the Toady One only knows how to do single core threading, apparently.

Remember, the game's still in alpha. Optimization will come later, probably after Toady codes in the ability to travel into space.

Yeah, I loaded up my fortress on my sweet nasty gaming rig and I'm still only getting about 28FPS and only one out of four cores is doing anything. But whatever.

Anyway, I almost flooded the entire fortress while trying to build an anti-flooding failsafe. Managed to seal off two rooms before too much damage could be done, only losing the cage stockpile (but those were all moved out while the water was shallow), the kennels, the farmer's workshop, and the reactor driven millstone. Oh, and I guess two dwarves also got lost, but they died funny. They fell into the reactor and died of thirst due to the dry spot.

So right now, I'm working on a massive pump system to drain out the corridor so I can possibly wall it better, then I'll move that pump system to the aqueduct I was originally trying to keep safe. Hopefully it will all work out, and hopefully there will be no attacks before then since this is so much outside work, away from all the traps.

Also I just used the "Burn depot" lever to dump a bunch of magma on top of some stupid elves. Bring me some better animals!

[up][up]Yes, I think that's part of the presentation arc, the last of the five planned development arc.

And so far he's only gotten pretty far in the first (Military) and started the second (Caravan).

Patience is the greatest virtue a Dwarf Fortress player can learn. Well, that and cage traps.

They can capture anything.

Operation drain corridor 1 was a resounding success, and the two flooded rooms are almost drained. And just to make everything better, the reactor is still working.

Operation drain-aqueduct-and-build-failsafe-floodgate will start later today.

ps. Spooky, I recommend searching youtube for some stuff. There's one guy who was playing the older version, and even though it's not up to date, it helps give you direction and let's you see what things could look like.

Also, besides patience, another virtue is understanding that your dwarves are stupid and will do everything in their power to get themselves killed. The only thing you can do is let the weaker ones die.

oh pps. Wilderness training of the children didn't work. People were bringing them food. Laaaame.
