As someone in Japan, might I add that this isn't even relevant in real life in modern day Japan any more? The average age of first marriage for both men and women is above 25 these days, and the 2005 census showed that the majority of men and women under 25 here are unmarried. I'm a young person, but many young people (teens to 20s) have never really heard of the concept, or if they have, they consider it outdated.

[up]That makes me feel happy. There's something disturbing about considering a twenty-five-year-old as "too old" for anything.

My Egyptian roommate commented on feeling similar pressure (she's 26), though part of her issue is she's too highly educated (apparently men in her country won't marry a woman who is smarter than them). It's still out there in real life.

BTW, I'm a chick.

[up][up][up] This is a good thing to hear, but not that relevant, as the trope keep appearing on media, even if it is not true anymore.

Still, we should add a note about that, of how Japan seems to have grown past it. Just a question, though: is this true for all Japan? I mean, likely people from Tokyo or Osaka would have different views them people from, dunno, Shimane, right?

Ehh... off topic rambling.

Is this new format in place?
