Thanks

@ Star Wars Legends

  • The Ghost Jedi (a holographic figure invented by Reluctant Mad Scientist Rorax Falken) from The Phantom Affair is one of the most fondly remembered parts of X-Wing Rogue Squadron. This is due to the effective "Scooby-Doo" Hoax the hologram is used for and how the holographic projection can harness actual laser energy to hurt enemies with its lightsaber.

@ Castle

  • The mercenary Castle hires to help find Alexis is Overshadowed by Awesome and a selfish prick at the end of the day, but he gets a stirring Badass Boast when talking into a bug Volkov planted (which gets a phone call replying to his threat within ten seconds).
Henri: I know you're out there. I know you're listening, so you know I'm not a cop. I'm not interested in you, your cause, or the law. All we want is the girl. You got what you wanted. Now she's meaningless to you, but not to me. So if you're smart, you call, we discuss terms. But if you are stupid, then I will come for you. I expect by now you have run voice recognition, so you know who I am, you know my reputation, and you know what I will do when I find you. The choice is yours.
  • In "The Fast and the Furriest", NYPD video and audio tech Tory Ellis debuts and gets an Establishing Character Moment looking at a video the murder victim shot and [[Sherlock Scan quickly narrowing down the victims approximate location and the direction she was moving based on the trees in the background, the sound of a river, and the position of the moon and various shadows.
    Castle: Wow. She's good.
  • Every time in "Valkyrie" or "Dreamworld" where NSA analyst Richmond follows up on a line of inquiry Castle comes up with and gets results within a couple scenes. Granted, it's not that different from what Ryan and Esposito do, but the higher-security sources he is sifting through and the way he scrutinizes Castle's (sometimes bizarre but usually accurate) suggestions so carefully despite lacking the established rapport Ryan and Esposito have with him is impressive.
@ Buffyverse: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Vampires

    Viva

Viva

A vampire who was sired in 1912 and tries to capture Buffy throughout the novel Power of Persuasion and make her fight a common threat.
  • Amazon Brigade: She leads a group of female vampires with decent fighting skills (although they don't always listen to her) and has little to do with male vampires.
  • Crying Wolf: She has a history of telling outrageous lies about her past that cause many of her fellow vampires to disbelieve her (accurate) claims that a group of newcomers to town are Greek gods whose very presence makes ordinary humans poisonous for vampires to eat.
  • Fiery Redhead: She has red hair and is prone to threats or loud displays of frustration.
  • Mr. Exposition: She is the one to explain the history, nature, and weaknesses of the book's main villains.

@ Buffyverse: Sunnydale High

    Allison

Allison Gianakous

A Greek-American student and long-suffering daughter and waitress of a bumbling restauranteur. She has a notable role in the novel Power of Persuasion.
  • Beautiful All Along: Allison doesn't consider herself pretty, and her classmates share that opinion, but under the influence of the book's villains, she slowly gets more fashionable and ultimately wins a beauty contest.
  • Butt-Monkey: Her dad lets her brother do whatever he wants, but won't let her go out on her own and makes her spend her free time helping him with his restaurant even though it is (initially) a pipe dream.
  • Family Theme Naming: She and her brother Alexander both have "Al" names.
  • Height Angst: She is awkward about how gangly she is until it inspires her to try out for the basketball team.
  • Supreme Chef: Her previously undiscovered cooking skills win her the talent portion of a beauty contest and help her father's restaurant turn around.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her half-serious prayer to the Greek gods to help her improve her life summons some sinsiter deities to Sunnydale.

@ Buffy the Vampire Slayer

  • In The Power of Persuasion:
    • The Lethal Chef cooking of the cook at the Greek restaurant warrants some jokes, such as Buffy amending a statement that she ate there to clarify that she went there.
    • Cordelia loses a beauty contest and the Hawaiian vacation first prize. Willow earnestly tells her at least she got a good second prize, a stack of encycolpedias, and Cordelia sourly stomps out of the room.

YMMV.The Legend Of Zelda The Minish Cap:

YMMV.Pizza Tower:

  • That One Achievement: While the P-Ranks sound simple at first glance (do everything in a level without losing your combo), they can be some of the most unforgiving and frustrating challenges in the game (especially in later levels), as they require you to speed through and master the stages and bosses in flawless fashion and with little-to-no leeway, and if you take a little too long on something to the point that you lose your combo, well, you can say goodbye to that P-Rank, because again, you need to keep it up and not lose it, lest you reset the stage and try again. Fortunately, unlike the S-ranks, they are optional and not required for 100% completion.

When his grandson and his ship enter Quadrant X, Blackmass tries to have him killed, throwing the criminals' lives away.

      • Lightning Lady is the queen of an Insecton colony who broke a quarantine the Rangers placed her species in. She leads her colony into conquering worlds, turning them into hives and eating each planet’s population. Chased (move text) to Earth by Captain Victory and his crew, she hypnotises the population of a human town to be her slaves, planning to enslave even more humans into helping her terraform Earth before eating them. She sends Insecton Super Soldier to destroy Captain Victory and when that fails, uses dozens of children as hostages. When captured aboard Victory’s ship, she tries to kill him.
^ There's no need to avoid pronouns if it's clear from the context which character you're referring to. Here, Lightning Lady is the only female mentioned in the entry, so you can safely use "she" once you've referred to her by name. Also, when you say "she sends Insecton Super Soldier", it's not clear if you're talking about one or more than one. If there is only one, you should say "an Insecton Super Soldier". If it's more than one, you should say "Insecton Super Soldiers".

  • Kirby: Genesis-Captain Victory issue 1 “Victory is Sacrifice”: Batteron is a military Commander in Blackmass’s Shadow Empire and one of Captain Victory’s most personal foes. He is a sadist in charge of spreading Blackmass's Shadow across the galaxy and turning the populations of whole planets (superfluous words - cut) into unthinking slaves. He leads the conquest of the planet Kloon, where he faces Victory before gloating that Shadow has already taken over the whole planet. Left (superfluous words - cut) to die on Kloon as Victory prepares to destroy it, Batteron laughs that his former student has finally learned to be ruthless.
^ "Learned to be ruthlessness" is not correct English. You want either "learned to be ruthless" (which is how I've corrected it) or "learned ruthlessness."

  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: When Meredith explains to Mr. and Mrs. Rice that their daughter lost so much of her intestine that she developed short bowel syndrome, which will cause her to suffer from nutritional problems for the rest of her life. While Mr. Rice is distraught, Mrs. Rice comments that this is just the next disappointment she has received from her daughter, so Meredith points out that the only reason Claire almost killed herself was to try to make her proud. As Mrs. Rice continues to disregard these statements, Mr. Rice finally realizes the reality of the facts, and when his wife turns to him, he angrily shushes her.
Mrs. Rice: If you somehow think that I'm responsible for this...
Meredith: I think Claire is killing herself to please you.
Mrs. Rice: Oh, please. You have no idea what's going on in that girl's mind.

  • Superman Stays Out of Gotham: After helping the group retrieve the Helm of Disjunction, he separates from them instead of leading them against Forge and Sofina. His explanation for doing so is simply that defeating them is the Party's quest, not his. This is a rather weak excuse, but on the one hand it is true that by leaving them on their own, Xenk allows the party members to grow, and on the other hand it is obvious that defeating Sofina with him would probably have been easier, faster, and therefore boring for the audience.

@ Dead Famous

  • Blatant Lies: During the summation, Coleridge assures Sally that she was never a suspect even though he viewed her with strong suspicion in the early sections (although this is partially a Pet the Dog moment, given all of the grief and suspicion the character has gone through).
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: Coleridge recalls griping when Hooper first installed a water cooler in their office, as he considered it a dumb attempt to emulate American cop shows. Now, he privately thinks that having drinks of cool water while he ruminates is faster and more enjoyable than having tea all the time.

@ The Hardy Boys

  • The Demon's Den has a scene where Chet and Biff have to enter a log-rolling contest to avoid blowing the kids' cover during a case. They both go flying off the log so fast that the emcee makes them try again so that the round will have an official winner if one of them manages to last a few seconds longer than the other this time.

@ The End of the World

  • A House Divided: The District 1 victors have many members who, while not necesarilly rebels, hate the Capitol, but their community's downfall comes from how not all of them feel that way. Most of the ones who aren't killed in the 3rd Quarter Quell arena or are presumed dead at the hands of Trigger-Happy peacekeepers in the immediate aftermath of the arena plot end up fighting each other due to their divided loyalties. The only uninjured survivor of the melee is arrested for being one of those on the rebel side of it, and despite having one of the biggest populations of victors, District 1 has lost almost all of its victors within 24 hours of the end of the 3rd Quarter Quell.

@ The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

  • Ascended Fanon:
    • Countless fanfiction stories from the 2010s (The End of the World, The Victors Project, Johanna Mason: They Will Never See Me Cry, We Must Be Killers, Cheating Death: Those That Lived, Checkmate (Anla'Shok), etc.) imagine that the mentors for the Hunger Games gather together in an official building to watch the Games and mingle with each other, even though it is never said in the original trilogy. This story has the mentors watching the Games together and working out of the same building.
    • While the original trilogy never actually says when 1, 2, and 4 became Career districts, many fanfiction stories assume that they produced some of the first victors and either were Careers from the start or had a leg up at becoming Careers. This story mentions that 1 and 2 tend to have an advantage even at this early point in the Games, and the District 4 tributes in this story are part of a proto-Career alliance.
    • Multiple fanfiction stories went with the idea that the Hunger Games originally had one low-tech arena that was used for the first several Games, and that is the case here.
    • In the vast majority of The Hunger Games fanfics before this book, District 12's first victor was never around long enough to mentor Haymitch in the 3rd Quarter Quell, and Lucy flees into the wilderness within a year of her victory in this story as well.

When Meredith explains to Mr. and Mrs. Rice that their daughter lost so much of her intestines that she developed short bowel syndrome, which will cause her to suffer from nutritional problems for the rest of her life...the latest disappointment...

^ There are at least two specific types of intestine: large and small. If you don't specify which one you're talking about, you need to use "intestines".

^ When you added the word "When" at the beginning of the first sentence, it's required that there be some additional text after the end of that sentence (the word "life").

^ Something like this:

^ "When Tom went to school, a place where he was welcome."

^ There has to be some text after the word "welcome" for the sentence to make sense.

@ We Must Be Killers

  • Actually Pretty Funny: After Snow asks the Quell mentors for one reason not to kill them and their tributes for defying him during the interviews, he actually laughs before resuming his threats when Ronan says "You'd waste one hell of an arena."
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: During the last minute negotiations between Snow and the Quell mentors, after Snow rejects the suggestions of Diana from District 8 and Angus from District 10 to either cancel the Games or do a regular reaping for kids to replace the Victor-tributes, Cora from District 9 bluntly suggests that he just kill Katniss rather than go through the charade of making everyone else collateral damage to take her with them. However, as Haymitch (who suggests that Snow just put her under de facto house arrest, which again is too lenient for Snow's ego) points out, this will just make her a martyr and give people even less reason to hold back from rebelling.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Ronan is deeply exasperated and concerned as he watches the victors defy and bait the Capitol throughout the Quell interviews, saying that Snow's vindictive pride won't let him show them any mercy now and the smart move would have been to play nice and hope he'd be magnamious (although he grudgingly acknowledges that Lyme and the others are right to snark that "You can't blame them for not holding their breath on that one.").
Ronan: (after the victors start holding hands) We're all dead.

  • Doomed Predecessor: The crew is filled with constant concern about how the seven ships sent to Callisto before them never came back. Once they arrive, they find one of those ships and the bodies of its crew before narrowly escaping the non-sentient aliens that killed them and the other previous explorers.

@ Proposal Thread

  • The Dispatcher: Brennan Tunney is a pragmatic fourth-generation Chicago mobster who grasps how, between lower risks, bigger stakes, and tax write-offs, Good Pays Better. He spends years transitioning his crime family into legitimacy, but is willing to protect those interests with gangland methods. Even in a world where 999 out of 1,000 murder victims inexplicably resurrect, he is The Dreaded and is aware of chilling but rarely used Loophole Abuse ways to permanently kill someone. In the third book, he manipulates the downfall of stocks that Corrupt Corporate Executive rivals own, while also giving Tony evidence to expose them and sabotaging the escape route of the worse of the pair so that he will be left to the mercy of criminals far more ruthless than Tony himself. Nostalgic about old Chicago neighborhoods, contemplative about how people spend the favors he liberally bestows, and clever and playful in his cat-and-mouse game with police surveillance, Tunney is the only major criminal in the books to consistently prosper and retain Tony's grudging respect.

One Piece: Donquixote Doflamingo

  • Shadow Archetype:

    • It's surprising that he has this parallel with Vivi of all people, as they share a common ancestry as descendants of the 20 kings who formed the World Government. However, neither of them holds the title of Celestial Dragon due to a member of their bloodline choosing to live amongst ordinary people (Vivi's distant ancestor and Doflamingo's parents). They were both well-liked by their respective kingdoms, but Vivi genuinely desires to help her people. At the same time, Doflamingo uses his reputation as a good king to conceal his illegal activities.
    • Luffy and Doflamingo share a strong sense of loyalty towards their respective crews, to the point of reacting violently when their crew is attacked. Both have suffered tragic losses, such as the death of a brother. They are both subject to criticism due to their lineage - Luffy, as Dragon's son, and Doflamingo, for his past as a Celestial Dragon. However, their beliefs and motivations differ greatly: Luffy is driven by the dreams of others, while Doflamingo dismisses them as mere delusions. Doflamingo is a formidable and cunning opponent, whereas Luffy tends to act impulsively in battle. Doflamingo avoids fighting personally unless absolutely necessary, while Luffy charges headfirst into battle. In a dark parallel, Doflamingo prioritizes his goals over his crew and is willing to demand sacrifices from them while still caring for them. Meanwhile, Luffy's brother sacrificed his life to save him from a ruthless Marine.
    • Sanji and Doffy share many similarities as they are intelligent, powerful fighters caring deeply for their respective crews. However, Sanji has a strong sense of compassion and will go out of his way to help anyone in need, particularly women. On the other hand, Doffy sees his crew as tools and slaves he will discard when convenient for him. Interestingly, both Sanji and Doffy came from royal backgrounds and lost their mothers at a young age. They also had siblings who antagonized them their entire lives. However, Sanji had the misfortune of growing up in an abusive household that forbade virtues like compassion and kindness. He was constantly beaten and belittled for showing these traits. Despite this, he was able to develop a strong moral compass thanks to the loving and caring people who surrounded him and taught him right from wrong. In contrast, Doffy's parents died, and his executives only followed him because of their own self-interest.
