@ Sunnydale High

  • Attention Whore: Her (possibly joking) yearbook quote is that everyone should get to be in the spotlight, but they should wait for her to get done with it, and one of her fondest yearbook memories is briefly being on MTV.
  • Asian and Nerdy: Holly, the Asian member of the duo, is by far the more academic, being a straight A student and debater who (according to the yearbook) is bound for an Ivy League college.

@ Pursued Protagonist

  • DC: The New Frontier: The second half of the opening credits shows unauthorized vigilante Hourman being chased across rooftops by the police (in a scene only described secondhand on the original comic) and eventually being shot and falling to his apparent death, emphasizing the government's hostilty toward "Mystery Men" who won't reveal their identities.

@ Nashville

This is in spite of how she has under twenty minutes of screen time and little plot beyond being an Always Someone Better figure for Haven in a few scenes.

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Kenny always plan to shoot Barbara Jean, or did he originally plan to kill Walker, himself, or someone else until being strangely affected by her song at the end? He is only in a position to shoot by chance after Mr. Green brings him to the concert while looking for Martha.
  • Ensemble
    • PFC Kelly rarely speaks for long and has some Creepy Good moments, but is quite well-liked for his general politeness, the story behind why he is obsessed with Barbara Jean, and how he overpowers her shooter.
    • Linnea rarely interacts with any of the other important characters besides Tom and Del, but makes a strong impression with the fanbase for her warm interactions with her deaf children, her sense of straightforward composure, and how effectively her actress, Lily Tomlin, is Playing Against Type for a dramatic role.

@ Jedi Academy Trilogy

@ Star Wars Legends

  • Maw Installation division managers Doxin, Golanda, and Yemm from the last book of the Jedi Academy Trilogy create superweapons at a base that uses slave labor and raise little fuss about fighting the New Republic. Still, they get some Jerkass Woobie vibes if you read their All There in the Manual backstories. Said backstories describe how they came to the Maw Installation (Golanda was forced to go there after turning the job down at first, Yemm was looking for ways to gain respect an infleunce as a non-human in the Empire, and Doxin followed his mentor there, only to be left behind). They are stuck in the desolate research base for over a decade longer than they anticipated, are stuck in the Maw Installation for over a decade against their will, and spend that time struggling with projects and pastimes to avoid going stir crazy while also being subject to the unpleasant whims of Admiral Daala and Tol Sivron.

@ Proposal Thread

  • Time Spike: Danny Bostic is a career criminal who was arrested after a series of daring and bloodless bank robberies, leading to him being sent to the prison that is later transported to an alternate dimension filled with displaced dinosaurs and Native American tribes from various areas. He takes part in an inmate uprising that takes over control of the prison from the guards. He is the lone voice among the convict leaders who disapproves of killing hundreds of expendable prisoners to conserve supplies, and wants to rely on resources and opportunities outside of the prison]]. He helps carry out the murders that he disapproves of, but only while buying time to form a plan to gather supplies and flee into the wilderness with a few trusted companions. He kills one of his men for causing a stand-off by trying to rape a guard and gives her group one of his guns, both as a Pet the Dog moment and to build new alliances. He goes on to kill an allosaurus threatening a native village, becoming their new leader and establishing diplomatic relations with the former prison guards, with even his enemies among that group viewing him with grudging admiration.

@Arivne thanks.

Prehistoric Beast

  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: While the Tyrannosaurus wins the fight, the Monoclonius does inflict a stab wound on the carnivore's leg.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: The Monoclonius drives its massive horn through the leg of the Tyrannosaurus. The predator is merely angered by the injury rather than bleeding to death.

Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun - Other Characters

Mr. & Mrs. Suzuki

  • Laughably Evil: The two are rotten parents with no empathy for their son's pain. At the same time, they put Iruma through such hilariously cruel situations that their abuse of him becomes downright comedic.

Eternal Darkness

Anthony - A.D. 814

  • Failure Is the Only Option: His efforts to save Charlemagne are doomed to fail. Even though he inadvertently takes the curse intended for his Emperor, the conspirators have already assassinated him by the time Anthony reaches him.

The Ancients

  • Asshole Victim: Chattur'gha, Ulyaoth, and Xel'lotath are to conquer Earth, their actions would lead to different but equally horrifying fates for humanity, and they are shown to view their underlings as nothing more than tools for their ambitions. No tears are shed over their gruesome deaths.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: As the Ancients counter each other's abilities, their fights result in this.
    • Chattur'gha relying on brute force means Xel'lotath's insanity-based attacks do not affect him while he freely rips her apart.
    • Xel'lotath's mental abilities counter Ulyaoth's magic, even turning his lasers back on him before using a blast of pure insanity to fry him.
    • Ulyaoth's use of portals turns Chattur'gha's predictable attacks back on him, cutting off both his claws before killing him by cutting him in half.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Pious explains he has found Mantorok's essence, his Ancient warns him against underestimating the power of Mantorok. Chattur'gha and Xel'lotath outright belittle Pious, saying Mantorok's power is beyond their understanding. Ulyaoth is less condescending but warns that while Mantorok's essence appears unguarded, being easy to take means it could be stolen from underneath Pious. All of their concerns are proven right. Mantorok turns out not to be as powerless as he looks and drives off Pious. Ulyaoth's concern about the essence being stolen is spot on, as Lindsey finds it before Pious can and escapes with it thanks to Mantorok's intervention.
  • Kick The Son Of A Bitch: Chattur'gha, Ulyaoth, and Xel'lotath demonstrate their cruelty when they fight, but they inflict it on another Ancient who more than deserves it.
    • Chattur'gha cuts Xel'lotath in half while she struggles in vain to break free from his grip, then rips off her arms before finally ripping apart her entire torso.
    • Ulyaoth cuts Chattur'gha's right arm off and then cuts him in half while he struggles to escape.
    • Xel'lotath fries Ulyaoth with a blast of pure insanity, leaving him a charred corpse.
  • Sadist: Xel'lotath is the most blatant with her fondness for mentally torturing her foes, but based on how Ulyaoth and Chattur'gha prolong the misery of their foes when facing them, all three of the villainous Ancients delight in the suffering of others.
  • We Have Reserves: When Pious informs them of the destruction of the Guardians in Ehn'gha, all of the Ancients dismiss his concerns about the manpower loss for their own reasons:
    • Chattur'gha doesn't care, as he has his vision of killing Xel'lotath and is sure of his victory as a result.
    • Ulyaoth knew of the massacre as it occurred and is irritated that Pious feels the need to inform him. Regardless, he doesn't care, seeing the Guardians as mere tools and inevitable casualties.
    • Xel'lotath explains she has other Guardian colonies, and losing one doesn't affect her plans.

Chattur'gha

  • I'm a Humanitarian: Chattur'gha claims that in his vision of killing Xel'lotath, he eats away at her body until nothing is left, showing he has a fondness for consuming his enemies after beating them.

  • Foreshadow: Although most of the clues at first suggest that Valentin has a terminal illness, there is one occasion when it is implied that it is Maggie the one with health problems, because during Julie's first visit to Valentin and Maggie, the woman notices that when her daughter falls asleep, she does so rather quickly, seeming to literally shut down.

Jurassic Park – Other Organizations Dodgson

  • Mirror Character: Double.
    • Dennis Nedry: Both are willing to endanger other people's lives out of greed and, after failing to escape from the disaster they caused, they are blinded, mauled and eventually devoured by dilophosaurs.
    • Peter Ludlow: Both are corrupt businessmen who are warned by Ian Malcolm about where their greed will lead them, but they do not listen and are eventually cornered by a dinosaur that cripples them (Ludlow's leg is broken, Dodgson is poisoned and blinded), so that the two, unable to escape, can only scream "Wait!" before being killed.

I have multiple potential entries by Audience-Alienating Ending

  • How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ends with all the Dragons being sent away to hide in the titular Hidden World for their safety living away from humanity, with the strong implication humanity will eventually forget their existence. Many took issue with this plot point for contradicting the themes of coexistence in prior films and the fact by the end of the film Dragon-kind is safer than it has ever been, with several societies having become dependent on Dragons to function. While the film presents Hiccup's decision as difficult but necessary, many instead saw it as foolish and selfish.
  • Those who dislike Toy Story 4 almost always cite the film's ending as the reason why. The film ends with Woody choosing to become a lost toy like Bo Peep helping other toys find owners, leaving behind his Found Family in the process. Many people saw this ending as contradicting the themes and Woody's growth in prior films about understanding the importance of a Toy always being there for its owner, only for Woody to leave the moment he's no longer the favorite toy in the household.
  • Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter ends with The Reveal that the world of the Raspoa is nothing more than a dream world made by a child in a coma, with Wilfre trying to stop the impending Dream Apocolypse by preventing the child (who's the minor character Mike) from ever waking up. The heroes choose to stop Wilfre despite this knowledge allowing themselves and their world to be sacrificed for Mike to awaken. Needless to say, not many fans were happy knowing all the characters from the past two games that they had grown attached to had been wiped from existence. The Compilation Re-release altered the game's ending to something Lighter and Softer but ultimately did nothing to address the core issue fans had. The release of Drawn To Life: Two Realms, 11 years later, would ultimately Retcon things so that The Raspoa World continued to exist after Mike's awakening, easing fan complaints.
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ends with The Reveal that the "Big Boss" players had been controlling throughout the entire game had been nothing more than a Body Double for the real Big Boss who had been constructing the real Outer Heaven, cue credits and timeline scroll. Many were unhappy with this ending given the game had been promoted as the story of Big Boss becoming the monster we saw in Metal Gear 1, with fans feeling this reveal cheapened the entire game's premise. Not helping matters is the game's Troubled Production meant there were several plot threads Left Hanging, no Final Boss, and the game's last mission just being a repeat of the Tutorial Level.

FandomEnragingMisconception.Sonic The Hedgehog:

  • Suggesting that Amy Rose's only trait is her crush on Sonic is a good way to get whacked with a Piko Piko Hammer by Amy fans, who will point to her plucky, caring, and determined personality, her role as The Heart of the cast, and her love of fortune telling as proof that there is a lot more to Amy than "Sonic's obsessive and self-proclaimed girlfriend". Especially given that Sega has largely de-emphasized Amy's crush on Sonic to focus more on her other traits as of The New '10s.

  • Saying that Sonic had a "rough transition to 3D" is a quick and easy way to become mocked by fans, who will quickly point out that Sonic's first proper 3D titles — Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 — were both unanimously acclaimed at the time of their original release and were amongst the best selling games on the Sega Dreamcast. It was only when Sonic Heroes came out that things began to get rough (and even then, Heroes still sold well and was relatively well received at the time, even if the reception was more polarizing than the Adventure games)

Madness Combat: Character (Sanford) [REWRITTEN EXAMPLE]

  • Iconic Sequel Character: Along with Deimos, he's one of the main antagonist and is considered an integral part of the series ever since his introduction, but he and Deimos wouldn't be properly introduced until "Aggregation", the ninth episode. While both characters had an early cameo in "Depredation", the fifth episode, their role was minor and they didn't have names or original designs back then, so we didn't know that two characters who appear in the 5th episode are the same two who appear in the 9th episode until Madness Combat 5.5 came out and revealed this was the case.

Zelda CD-i: Trivia [REWRITTEN EXAMPLE]

  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Despite the games' obscurity at the time of their release and their low budget, the French dub has popular voice actors:
    • Link is voiced by Thierry Wermuth, who is known for being the French voice of several South Park main characters and the voice of lots of other characters from other media.
    • King Harkinian is voiced by Benoît Allemane, who is known for voicing most of Morgan Freeman's characters.

(I'd argue that mentioning the games' low budget and low popularity when they came out is important to the example, because there is nothing notable about a popular work getting popular voice actors)

@ Jedi Academy Trilogy

  • Death of a Child: Luke meets Gantoris while trying to rescue two children from an earthquake, but finds one of them dead already. Even more tragically, the survivor presumably dies when Daala massacres the community after their move to Dantooine.
  • Hidden Depths: The companion sourcebook reveals a lot of interesting tidbits about some of the Maw Installation soldiers and scientists who aren't fleshed out much in the books.
    • Spear Carrier stormtrooper General Odosk only planned to stay at the base for a year or two to cap off his career before retiring to live with his daughter and grandchildren, but having to stay there for over a decade and go through repetitive and empty training exercises has robbed him of his ability to enjoy imagining a peaceful retirement.
    • The bureaucratic Yemm, head of the administrative division, is bored by his duties and tries to mitigate this by organizing clubs like a saabac league or musical groups. He also changes his office every few months so he can have a different view, something which often inconveniences his subordinates (with Yemm making this up to them by keeping Sivron from riding them too hard).
    • Snarky and grumpy artillery engineer Golanda's bitterness is because she was forced to come to the Maw Installation in the first place after being happy at a university think tank, and because the black hole's effect on gravity makes most of the experiments she was brought there to do pointless anyway. She is also the only high-ranking scientist to mingle much with the military personnel, and plays cards with them during her free time .
  • Hyper-Competent Sidekick: In the third book, the commander of the stormtroopers Daala left behind at the Maw Installation serves this role to Tol Sivron and the other scientific leaders. He is the only one who actually has any idea how to fly the Death Star protoype and often makes reasonable tactical suggestions while the others have no idea what to do.

@ The Weaver Option

  • After the Battle of Macragge, one of the rewards Taylor requests is that no more Imperial ships be named Dragonslayer, as her subordinate Dragon resents that name being used by their allies.
@ Murder She Wrote S 3 E 10 Night Of The Headless Horseman
  • Pursued Protagonist: The first scene shows Dorian saying goodbye to his date and heading home, only to be briefly chased by the perpetrator of a "Scooby-Doo" Hoax who is dressed as the Headless Horseman. After a short chase, Dorian gets away humiliated but unharmed, and the scene establishes the enmity between him and the person he suspects of the prank.
@ The Great Silence
  • Paper Tiger: While the bandit Miguel is a well-meaning tragic victim, he is also a blusterer without much real fight in him. He is introduced shooting the last of some bounty hunters Silence shot it out with, only to be told that the man's injuries would have kept him from hurting Silence anyway. Then, Miguel makes a speech about how miserable hiding in the mountains is and how the bandits are former soldiers who should fight the bounty hunters themselves, but when this gets little supports, he decides to turn himself in rather than fight or stay hiding. And when the men he turns himself in to prepare to kill him, he tries to run rather than fight back.
  • Pursued Protagonist: The drawn-out scene of one of the bandits running through the woods before being lassoed by evil Bounty Hunter Loco and dragged behind his horse is the fourth scene rather than the first, but otherwise has the atmosphere and plot importance to count. • Pauline's husband emerging form hiding to face near certain death and save her from Loco. In the English dub, his line about leaving the mountains is changed to him saying he wants to see his wife again, further developing their relationship.
