  • As the Big Death spreads through the Valhalla Sector, Libby is seen locked in a lab, listening to people that she has known for years (albeit not always in a good way) screaming as they die. She desperately tries to block out the noise with a traumatized look on her face, and even though most of those people are Asshole Victims and Libby herself is less heroic than she appears, it can still be pretty haunting.
@ Jeremiah
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In "The Touch", Markus has a strange dream while suffering from an unspecified disease, where a Magical Native American gives him a cryptic prophecy that has little to no significance later on. That scene, and arguably the rest of his subplot in the episode, seem to be pure Padding.
  • Moral Event Horizon
    • Throughout season 1, it is possible to take a Well-Intentioned Extremist view of the Valhalla Sector as they kill whole towns that may have resurgences of the Big Death and make people terminally ill by testing vaccines. Even the hints that they caused the original outbreak that killed most adults are mitigated by how the lab leak was an accident. Then, the season 1 finale reveals that the new Big Death outbreaks (which now kill adults and kids alike) are their deliberate doing and the Valhalla Sector wants to weaponize the Big Death to subjugate the outside world they have already put through so much suffering. They are only trying to find a cure to the Big Death to protect themselves and their collaborators.
@ Jeremiah
  • One-Steve Limit
    • Two characters named Gabriel appear two episodes apart. One is a Thunder Mountain scout who accompanies Elizabeth on a mission in "Thieves' Honor". The other is Michelle's son, possibly with Jeremiah, in "Mother of Invention".
  • Taking You with Me: In "Letters from the Other Side Part 2", As General Ripper Waverly dies from the Big Death after Lee Chen and Meghan introduce it to to the Valhalla Sector, he tries to either shoot or infect the imprisoned Jeremiah and Devon before dying. He fails due to being blind from the virus, but makes a darkly impressive effort.
@ Nate the Great
  • No Antagonist: Most of the stories involve Nate looking for lost objects or animals that were misplaced through sheer happenstance, with no malicious intent from anyone.

@ The King Nobody Wanted The quote is copied and pasted from the copy of text on sufficent velocity forums.

  • Man of the City: Tommen Brightflowers and many of his fellow merchants feel a passionate attachment to King's Landing that makes them seek to protect its safety and economic prosperity, and feel that there is nowhere else they'd rather be. The following exchange in chapter 99 may best display this.
Janos: Have you ever thought of… oh, if you and yours had become lords of Brightwater Keep?"
Tommen gave a shrug. "Oh, occasionally when I was a child, but… never deeply." He looked at Janos seriously. "This is our home, Janos. It has served us well, and we… we have served it well. We love it. We love it deeply...Outsiders may call this city a stinking hole, and perhaps it is. But it is so much more than that. There is beauty here, and not just in the fine septs and pretty fountains. In deals made, and bonds honored. In trades practiced with skill and artistry by free people, not slaves. In men and women going about their lives, looking to stand a little taller than they did the day before, and hoping their children can stand taller still." To Janos' surprise, Tommen's eyes seemed to glisten somewhat, as if he was holding back tears. "As I said, a beautiful thing. What need have I for a castle that I could sit in while I dreamed of getting a better castle, when I have this?"
@ Nobody Thinks It Will Work
  • American Dragon: Jake Long: Referenced, Played for Laughs, and subverted in "Love Cruise". The three protagonists lament how their relationships or crushes with more popular kids have (temporarily) suffered devastating setbacks. They agree that maybe such relationships are always doomed, only to witness an interclique Goth and Pom-Pom Girl couple who have no such feelings.
Trixie: Love officially stinks. I mean, it just never works out. Am I right?
Joshua and Tricia walk up, talking.
Joshua: I never thought this could ever work out.
Tricia: Give me an L-O-V-E. Love is real for you and me.

For https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanDislikedExplanation/WesternAnimation:

  • As a result of having multiple shows with very few writers carrying over, the Ben 10 franchise suffers from multiple instances caused by trying to expand or explain the series' lore.
    • Ben 10: Alien Force
      • Mid-way through the first season Ben and Gwen meet their paternal grandmother, Verdona who reveals that she is a member of an alien species called Anodites. Verdona would go on to say magic wasn't real and that Gwen's powers came from her alien heritage. This reveal was derided for many reasons, one of which being The Original Series implied on multiple occasions that Max's wife was deceased. Furthermore, the notion that magic didn't exist sat poorly with fans feeling it undermined Gwen's growth in the Original Series and was contradicted by the existence of Hex and Charmcaster, two very popular villains. Likely as a response to these criticisms, Season 3 would bring back Charmcaster, reveal Verdona was wrong about her belief magic didn't exist, and that Gwen's powers came from magic and alien heritage.
      • The episode "Primus" would reveal that the titular planet acted as DNA databank for all the species in the galaxy and that the Omnitrix was powerless without Primus. Many decried this revelation for overcomplicating things and changing the Omnitrix from "the most powerful device in the universe" into a glorified flash drive. Notably, Ben 10: Omniverse would go out of its way to avoid mentioning Primus, with Word of God indicating that the planet was removed from canon.
      • Season 2 revealed that Kevin's biological father Devin Levin was a Plumber providing additional context for Kevin's Heel–Face Return. While this was well received the same can't be said about Season 3 revealing Devin and Max were partners. Many took issue with this plot point for making Ben and Kevin's friendship feel too predestined and retroactively making Max Unintentionally Unsympathetic for never trying to help Kevin in the Original Series.
    • Ben 10: Omniverse
      • "Rules of Engagement" would reveal Ben and Julie had broken up between the events of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and Ben 10: Omniverse after Julie called Ben while he was insulting his opponent in a video game, with Julie interpreting the insults as being hurled towards her. Many disliked this plot point due to the Idiot Ball required on both sides, given Ben's insults weren't applicable towards Julie, and Ben made no attempts to call Julie back to explain the situation, despite it having been long enough since the incident for Julie to have found a new steady relationship. Even those who disliked the pairing found this plot point contrived and unnecessary, given Ultimate Alien had made it clear Ben and Julie's lives and wants were heading in opposite directions.
      • The Rooters arc would reveal that the species of Osmosisans, along with their planet Osmosis V was a fabrication created by Fake Memories and false databases and Kevin's father was never a plumber. This ruse was done by a rouge Plumber group in order to cover up their experiments of using Kevin's powers to create Half-Human Hybrids. With said hybrids are the Plumbers Kids from the past two series, despite Alien Force establishing they were all the result of a human and alien parent. This reveal was panned for the copious amounts of Fridge Logic it would take to make this ruse, how it ignored the fact the main villain of Ultimate Alien Season 1 was an Osmosian named Aggregor, and removed agency from Kevin and the Plumbers Kids' decision to aid Ben in the fight against The Highbreed. Word of God was this was done return Kevin to his roots of being a mutant after Alien Force retconned him into being the son of a Human Alien. This is in spite of the fact the only evidence Kevin was ever intended to be a mutant was a single toy bio, the likes of which are unreliable in this franchise.
      • Omniverse would imply and Word of God would confirm that the future seen in Omniverse was the same one that was seen in the Classic Series' two episodes set in the future. Many fans threw this into Fanon Discontinuity as a result of not following the laws of time travel established within the franchise. Furthermore, this statement contained the depressing implications that Ben and Kai were guaranteed to end up together, Ben destined to isolate himself from his family in his devotion to being a hero, and Kevin would end up relapsing into villainy at some point becoming an Abusive Parent to his son.

  • During Final Fantasy XIV's Stormblood main story, the Warrior of Light has to deal with the persistent Grynnewaht, an Imperial roegadyn whose idea of tactics is to throw soldiers at the problem. It's how he's identified when he's been made into a Hypertuned super soldier and the last boss of the Liberation of Doma dungeon, his body warped beyond recognition.

YMMV.Disney Theme Parks

  • More Popular Replacement: As well-liked as California Screamin' was, its pseudo-replacement, Incrediblcoaster, is regarded by many to be a massive improvement over it, as many feel the addition of The Incredibles gives the ride more character (both figuratively and literally) and makes it less generic than its predecessor. The only thing that fans really lament is the loss of the original ride's Awesome Music; even then, however, many feel the new score by Incredibles composer Michael Giacchino more than makes up for it.

YMMV.Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea:

  • Comedy Ghetto: While the film is not downright hated, it has received flak from even Ghibli fans for its very lighthearted and breezy tone, and how it mostly lacks the personal drama that helped to make Miyazaki's previous slice of life films, such as My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, beloved classics. It was also completely snubbed by the Oscars, unlike Miyazaki's more serious Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, likely as a result of this.

Chernobyl S1E2 "Please Remain Calm"

  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Having been told that Pripyat will not be evacuated, Legasov goes to the hotel where he will be staying. Before going to bed, he goes to the hotel bar where, probably to cope with the burden of not being allowed to tell people to leave the city, he asks for some vodka. When the bartender hands him a glass, Legasov asks if she can serve him the vodka in one of the freshly washed, upside-down glasses. Obviously, he wants to avoid drinking from something that might have radioactive particles on it, but then a nearby couple asks him if he did this out of superstition, to which he can only answer in the affirmative.

One Piece: Sky People

  • Irony: He calls himself a god, even though all he did was eat a very powerful Devil Fruit in a place where the power it gives has (almost) no chance of finding anyone capable of fighting back. Then, he meets the person with the only known power other than Haki that can harm him, and what's more, in the end that power turns out to be much more god-like than Ener's.

K-19: The Widowmaker

  • My God, What Have I Done?: When the reactor cooling system fails, chief technician Pavel Loktev admits to Lieutenant Radtchenko that he noticed something was wrong before K-19 left the base, but underestimated the severity of the problem. This, especially after the silent treatment he receives, makes Pavel's thinking clear.
Pavel: Lieutenant, I noticed the pumps were drawing too much power, during the turbine tests, but I didn't think it was serious.
Lieutenant Radtchenko watches him in disbelief and then furiously storms off. Pavel, once alone, slams the cabinet door in frustration.

Gaston Lagaffe

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: While we don't get to hear the question ourselves, it's quite clear that Gaston is asking stupidly obvious questions to the shopkeeper based on the latter's answers when Gaston is buying a plunger. Gaston needs the shopkeeper's confirmation to know the the bigger plunger is more expensive than the smaller one and that the plunger will be easier to see in daylight.
  • Jerkass: There's a strip where Gaston is in a park and decides to collect some leaves he finds pretty and bring them to his office to make a herbarium. A leaf picker follows him all the way to his office to take the leaves back under the pretext that the leaves are the park's property. Not only it's a jerkass move out of the leaf picker since fallen leaves don't belong to anyone, but he interrupted his work to be a jerk to someone who technically simplified his job.
  • Mona Lisa Smile: When Gaston receives a mail of someone calling him the modern Da Vinci, he decides to make his own version of the Mona Lisa and uses Jeanne as a model.
  • Robinsonade: There's a series of strips where Gaston dreams about him and Jeanne being castaways on an island and decide to live in there. He compares their situation to Robinson Crusoe's.

Asterix and the Chariot Race

  • Mona Lisa Smile: While in Italy, Asterix and Obelix come across a woman doing the same face and pose as the Mona Lisa.

Uncle Albert's Adventures

  • all lowercase letters: Altough the insecto-robot is a unique model and is considered a character In-Universe, its name is officially written with no capitalization.
  • Dub Name Change:
    • Uncle Albert's original French name is Ernest. As such, any invention containing Albert's name originally had "Ernest" in the name. For example: Alberto the robot was originally called Ernesto.
    • Kipling, the parrot from Mysterious Island, is called Hugo in the original French game.
  • Dungeon Bypass: In the spider web maze, it's possible for the fly to forces itself through the walls, although doing so greatly attracts the spider. Alternatively, there is a hidden passage in the bottom part of the page, said passage is indicated in a making-of video of the game, meaning this is an intentional design choice rather than an oversight.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The various pages in Magical Album do not follow any theme, unlike in the later games.
    • The English title logo for Magical Album, the first game in the series, is pale yellow with a black outline rather than black with a white outline like for the original French version. The others English translated games have their logo titles in black and White just like the French covers.
  • Element No. 5: Out of the nine forms of the insecto-robot (aside from the default form), eight of them are based on the classical four elements (two forms per elements), while the last one is called the "spirit" form.
  • Enemy Scan: Not "enemies", but all mainline games contain a scanner allowing the player to analyse any animal or object they come across. The scans mostly teach the player real life informations about the things they analyse (such as snails being hermaphrodite), but it also explains how the animals and objects can be useful in the game. From Magical Album to Mysterious Island, the scanner is tied to the laboratory pages. Starting from Le Temple Maudit, the scanner is portable and can be put in the player's inventory.

@ The Punisher Fanon Discontinuity

  • The events of the arcs where Punisher becomes an attempted Internal Reformist for The Mafia, gets caught up in an angelic war, and becomes a Frankenstein creature are all things that some fans loathe and disregard for departing from the tested formula of the series.

@ Cry Baby

  • Awesome Music: The musical numbers (both Jukebox Musical songs like "Mr. Sandman" and original ones like "Please, Mr. Jailer") are among the most praised parts of the film, sometimes to Just Here for Godzilla levels.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Two deleted songs Baldwin and his friends sing ("The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane" and “Chicken") have fans who think they are catchy and wouldn't have hurt the plot or pacing.
  • Indecisive Parody: The film spoofs regular teen movies effectively in many scenes, but some fans feel it also plays some stock teen movie cliches (like the drag race) straight, and that it can't quite commit to being either campy or edgy.
  • Signature Scene: Even some people who aren't fans of the genre may have some knowledge of the farcical scene where Milton and Hatchet-Face try to break Cry Baby out of prison.
@ Stereo Fibbing
  • The Boxcar Children: In The Canoe Trip, two criminals posing as forest rangers simultaneously say different colors when asked what their uniforms look like. They temporarily compensate for the gaffe by claiming that they have different uniforms for different seasons.
  • Dancing Aztecs features a rare version where the characters actually do have time to come up with a cover story in advance, but still fail to do so (presumably due to being nervous) while ringing a doorbell to distract the house owners so that one of their relatives can rescue her husband (who got caught breaking and entering). One of the women ringing the doorbell says they are from the League of Women Voters and the other says they are raising funds for cystic fibrosis patients. Then, in a panic, they both switch to the story the other woman is telling. The householders fail to grasp what is happening, but are left utterly confused.
  • Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: In the prequel, two human villains try to keep people from going down to a wine cellar where they have several the bodies of murder victims hidden, and simultaneously say that no one can go there because the cellar is flooded and the roof caved in. Even then, they might have gotten away with it in the panic (there are zombies besieging the place) if not for a suspicious servant calling out the lie.

@ Teen Power Inc.

  • In both "Danger in Rhyme" and "Crime in the Picture", Elmo risks his life trying to move people away from potential bombs.
  • In Dangerous Game, Tom gets mugged while carrying a bag of raven statuettes that the gang are gathering for a scavenger hunt, and determinedly clings to them to keep them safe throughout a vicious beating for the sake of his friends and the younger kids who are helping them try to defeat the local bullies. Then, as soon as he is mostly recovered, he goes into a "staggering trot" to find his friends and warn them in case anyone is attacking them.
@ Teen Power Inc.
  • In Danger in Rhyme, the villain is a Mad Bomber who blows up places that rhyme with the lyrics in the song "This Old Man", and once it's time for the tenth bomb, everyone is afraid that the Raven Hill Pen is next. Then there is a massive Alone with the Psycho Oh, Crap! moment when the prime suspect (who Elmo has just suggested may be suicidal) comes right up to the main characters while carrying a bag big enough to hold a bomb. It turns out that he is only a Red Herring, but the scene is a tense one.

@ Teen Power Inc.

  • Crime in the Picture involves a fortune teller who seems like a conwoman but (possibly coincidentally) makes some predictions that do come true for the gang. They muse about this in the climax, but then note that the prophecy that Nick would pass a disease to a close loved one hasn't came true. Nick, the biggest critic of the fortune teller, acts like this is true while deciding not to say anything about how he accidentally downloaded a virus onto "my beautiful new computer."

@ Teen Power Inc.

  • Graceful Loser: The main culprit in Dangerous Game is clearly impressed and not really mad after hearing the narrator's summation and being exposed as a smuggler. He even pays the gang for the work they did before learning he was a crook.
  • Serial Killings, Specific Target: Not killings, but Danger in Rhyme, a series of bombings is meant to cover up Insurance Fraud of one of the later properties hit.
  • Stranger Behind the Mask: The penultimate chapter of Crime in the Picture reveals that the thieving villains are...two men who the gang have never met or even heard of before.
@ King of Kings
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: This Tragic Villain version of Judas is tenth in the credits, but is constantly cited as one of the best-portrayed characters in the film.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A detailed explanation of exactly what turns venomous Royal Brat Salome into the quiet, upset woman she is at the end of the scene would have been interesting, but fans are left to speculate if it is guilt over John's death, abuse by Herod, or something else altogether.
@ Proposal Thread

  • The Dukes of Hazzard
    • "Swamp Molly": Swamp Molly is a moonshiner turned gunrunner who once saved Jesse Duke from the authorities and has remorselessly held that favor over his head for years to get his help with criminal pursuits for purposes like funding the education of her relatives. She gets Bo and Luke to drive a truck of her merchandise without telling them it’s firearms, and has her cousin take Jesse (who Molly would never really harm or hold prisoner) on a fishing trip so she can claim she is holding him hostage in case the Duke boys look into the truck and refuse to deliver the guns. Even after the Dukes do destroy her valuable shipment, she finds the incident Actually Pretty Funny and bakes her finest meal for Jesse as a peace offering.
    • "Arrest Jesse Duke": Carla is the Affably Evil leader of four women who approach Boss Hogg with a scam to disable cars with an air rifle, strip them of valuable parts when the motorists leave to get help, and then use a discount auto parts shop to sell those parts back to the owners seeking to repair their cars. The gang are willing to use force against their enemies, capture Bo with a Distracted by the Sexy gambit, and can take their jeeps through terrain that even the Duke boys can't go. Weary of Boss's condescension and hoarding of their profits, Carla eventually robs him and strips his Cadillac and the only patrol car nearby of their working parts within minutes, in broad daylight, without being spotted, to cover her attempted escape.
    • "Jude Emery" : Russell "Snake" Harmon is a hijacker and smuggler with a gang of former moonshine runners and rural street racers, including men wanted for murder. He sometimes puts his beloved pet rattlesnakes in the cars of his enemies, and makes his prisoners arm wrestle over a type of cacti that makes people feel like their arms are in fire for the rest of their lives. Texas Ranger Jude Emery has spent two years chasing Snake from one jurisdiction to another, unaware that Snake stays one step ahead of him by spying on local courthouses so that he will spot Jude whenever Jude arrives and contacts the local authorities. When Snake sees the Duke boys exiting a courthouse with Jude, he decides to recruit them for his gang so he can spy on Jude if they are in fact helping him. When Jude takes Snake prisoner while the Duke Boys are fighting Snake’s henchmen, Snake greets Jude pleasantly and chats with him about how the fight is going while also distracting Jude from the approach of another armed gang member. Even after his final defeat, he watches with a grin as Jude defeats Boss Hogg in a Jurisdiction Friction argument.

@Tatermater12, Your Ms. Fanservice examples are misuse, this trope is for when a character is designed to be a source of fanservice, it's not just "fans consider her attractive". Otherwise, Ms. Fanservice would be a YMMV rather than a trope. I don't know if these characters are actually meant to be a source of fanservice, but if they are, you need to re-write your examples.
