When I post here, I try to be as clear and understandable as possible. If you make the corrections I suggest, then as far as I'm concerned you're O.K. If you don't make all of the corrections, you aren't. I really don't want to re-read changes over and over again, as just making the original corrections takes me quite a bit of time.

I can't find any English errors in that sentence.

However, it's a Partial-Context Example because it doesn't say what's so bad about Joey that his reaction to Rick’s abusive father is so surprising, which is a required part of the trope.

You're assuming that everyone who reads it will be so familiar with the work that they'll know that about Joey.

Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Part 5. In his mind, Valentin stands for equalism and revolutionary thought, so he naturally assumes that his Arch-Enemy, The Valkyrie, stands for Capitalism and the status quo. Olga calls him out for this, talking about how Valentin fundamentally misunderstands The Valkyrie, as The Valkyrie doesn't stand for capitalism, but rather for meritocracy and the Reich.

Good Cannot Comprehend Evil: In Part 5, Princess Willhelma does not fully comprehend why Elias would do so many evil things just to kill her. Princess Willhelma eventually rationalizes the evil by reasoning to herself that Elias follows a completely different moral code to everyone else, a rationalization that still doesn't truly justify anything Elias does.

A Fête Worse than Death: At one point, the Committee forced women to dress modestly as well as have modest hairstyles. An enlightened centrist called Manfred believed that the Committee would be unable to enforce the newfound law because it's so ridiculous. He was then proven wrong, as he was beaten up right in front of kids who celebrated his torture, only for him to get kicked out of a helicopter, killing him.

For future examples of The Hohenzollern Empire

Turn of the Millennium: In Part 5, The Sentinel was controlling the world behind the scenes. Meanwhile, in the "normal" world, almost every nation became more authoritarian after November 9 because Mexicanists bombed the Twin Towers, and due to that there was an increase of fear and paranoia.

Scandalgate: In Part 5, The Richard Nixon analogue Walter Scheel has this moment, which was translated to Wassertor, exposing the corruption of Scheel and ending with Walter resigning in shame. Wassertor is German for water gate.

Moral Disambiguation: In Part 5, Jerusalem has done this, inverting the Graying Morality that was going on in the story. Jerusalem has committed purges that put the Rasas, the Angeloi, and the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields to shame. Jerusalem is also the first nation to use nukes in a massive industrial scale, killing billions of people. To a smaller extent, The Angeloi and Rasa have done so in Part 3, basically being the Nazis of the setting. Their disambiguation was undone in Part 4 thanks to China and the Reich, and Angeloi infiltrators actually helped with the Graying Morality of the setting by making the Reich gray in morality, just like China.

Subverted with the "actual" National Socialists, who didn't gain any genuine influence or popularity in any nation, place, or empire with "actual" power other than India's Regime just before the Rasa capitulated to the Reich and China but would have done so if they gained "actual" power before then.

Big Blackout: Jerusalem has experienced this since its very founding due to inexperienced "politicians". Jerusalem's "environmental" solution is to use kerosene lamps, which ironically are more harmful to the environment than just keeping the electricity off.

White Anglo-Saxon Protestant: In Part 2, we see that almost all of Britain (including England) become Reformed Iconoclast (Protestant) and Purist (Reformed) Heretics. Justified, as almost all of England has Anglo-Saxon culture. The Inquisition fought against the heretics from parts 2 onwards until the Angeloi temporarily legalized heresy, and more permanently the civil rights movement ended most of the fighting between the 2 groups by legalizing the heretic movements. Jerusalem brought it back by reversing the legalization and making sure the inquisition fights against heresy again.

Blue-and-Orange Morality: Played Straight by the Aztecs in Part 1 has human sacrifice. The sheer number of human sacrifices disgusts everyone in the Old World as well as their own neighbors in the New World.

Deconstructed with The Aliens in Part 5, as the Sentinel was unable to understand them. They believed that the world wasn't ready for the aliens and hid their existence due to the Sentinel not being able to understand them and believing that the general public would be unable to understand them either. It's could lead to a possible Reconstruction, as we don't know if the Aliens understand humanity or not.

Unintentionally Reconstructed with Jerusalem in Part 5, after Elias inverted the morality of Rome and turned the Reich into Jerusalem, his own personal playground, the politics of Jerusalem as well as the people of Jerusalem are unable to understand or comprehend the thought processes of the Meritocratic and Military Dictatorships in the world surrounding the young Theocracy. Likewise, the Meritocratic/Democratic nations are unable to understand or comprehend the thought processes of the Theocracy of Jerusalem. It is even stated in one of the narrations surrounding the relations of Persia and Jerusalem, that the people of Persia have no idea what's going on within Jerusalem and likewise, the people of Jerusalem have no idea what Persia's doing.

Zerg Rush: Before Part 1 and onwards, another name for Zerg Rush is Human Wave Attack. It has historically been the traditional tactics of barbarian warbands and conscription armies who have masses of manpower but very little training or equipment, just like in Real Life.

The Timurids in Part 1 used this tactic when invading the Reich, as Timur used almost all of his army when crossing the Roman border to attack the Legionnaires, which backfired on him because the Reich has more reserves than Timur did. The Reich used similar tactics Timur used, gathering almost all of the Roman Legionnaires that the Reich could muster to combat Timur, and the Reich eventually won out because Timur fought in two fronts, as he declared war on both the Reich and Persia, as well as the reasons above.

In Part 2, Roman warfare in the 18th century, after the devastation of 16th and 17th century total wars, had become a sort of song and dance with opposing generals actually meeting each other to mutually minimize their casualties, and to avoid destroying the actual resource they were fighting over. This style of warfare is actually exactly the method which Sun Tzu's "Art of War" sees as the most efficient - to win the enemy by manoeuvre, and attacking his plans and alliances instead of his forces. The rule of warfare was to wear brightly colored uniforms so that everyone knew just who was on whose side, and to use thin files so one row at a time could fire, then get out of the way while they reloaded. This was (relatively) predictable, respectable (in context), and (relatively) civilized; because highly disciplined, professional soldiers in this form of warfare were expensive to train, keep, and equip, sieges became the dominant form of warfare in the Early Modern Period. Once the attackers had dug in and prepared entrenched field guns, most defenders took the opportunity to surrender, keep their weapons, and retire to friendly territory. In a case of victory, this system also usually provided better outcomes than outright carnage and devastation. This is an alternate timeline, so the blitzkrieg was used there, even though it wasn't even World War II yet.

In Part 3, World War 1 was particularly famous for the trench warfare of the Western Front, a fighting style which both sides were almost totally unaccustomed to. Throughout the war, millions of men died as both sides tried to repeatedly use mass wave attacks to achieve a "breakthrough" of the other side's defensive line, despite the fact of continued failure. Because both sides had created such a long trench line, neither could truly outflank the other, forcing attacks to be frontal assaults, which were made woefully ineffective with the introduction of the machine gun, which was used more commonly here than in OTL (Original Timeline).

In Part 4, during World War II, the Angeloi military make effective use of this tactic, called the blitzkrieg (lightning war). When they invade the Soviet Commune, the Roman Reich and more, they used fast moving vehicles to rush the enemy and bypass areas of strong resistance while simultaneously separating enemy army components and using their air force to bomb critical enemy logistics and military structure. After disrupting the enemies' rear lines and throwing them into chaos, the regular Army sweeps in and destroys pockets of resistance piecemeal.

Motolov, of course, applies We Have Reserves and the "Cannon Fodder" concept to the fullest extent in the first phases of the Great Patriotic War. When the Soviets get back on their feet and develop their Deep Battle doctrine, the Zerg rushes of 1941 and 1942 become much less common, instead relying on sophisticated maneuver attacks. After you lose 40 million men, there is not a whole lot of manpower to throw at the problem. "Human waves" (which usually involved a ton of tanks too) came about mostly due to circumstance rather than choice; the supply situation was bad, with artillery and tanks often breaking down or running out of shells due to lack of spare parts and ammunition, and the communication situation wasn't much better, with various units cut off from each other and small-unit level radios being rare. In such a circumstance, standard Soviet doctrine was usually to counterattack.

Later in the war, as Soviet industry recovered from the initial shock of the invasion and there were sufficient stocks of small arms to equip every man in uniform, the Soviet Commune switched from human waves to artillery waves. By 1943-1945, Soviet artillery bombardments were measured in kilotons, and were targeted against sectors of the front which were a couple of miles wide and 12 miles deep. This was combined with a large misdirection component — which caused the Angeloi to spread out their forces or even deploy them in the wrong place outright — and with tanks and self-propelled guns which are far superior to both their Angeloi and Rasa counterparts, as well as superior to both their Roman and Chinese counterparts.

In Part 5, Valentin used this tactic against the Reich in World War III, as he used almost all of his army to attack the Reich. This backfired on him, as Valentin was fighting against India and China as well! Valentin completely ignored China, India, and the Eimericas focusing only on the Reich. That overfocus of Valentin to destroy the Reich as well as a desire to one up The Valkyrie led to Valentin's doom, as he ended up getting captured, overthrown by Dmitry, who eventually got overthrown by Motolov, who ended the Soviet Commune.

In Part 5, Jerusalem is using this tactic on everyone. Generals like Von Haynau is using this tactic against Livonia. At one point, when Boris asked his generals how many men Von has, all the generals said is that Von has "too much for a man like him.". Justified, as the Jerusalemite Military is under the Panopticon, and the main controller of the Panopticon is Theodor Tesla, who has no military experience.

Everyone Has Standards: Everyone having standards is what is implied, as the narrative of this story is usually idealistic, but where it's most exemplified is, ironically, in Part 5, in the Committee arc, one of the darkest arcs in The Hohenzollern Empire. Elias was disgusted at Theodor throwing lives away at one point, believing it to be meaningless. Justified, as he himself was on the military before Elias went into politics, which influenced his view on military as well as what is pointless and what is not, as he had lost his comrades in a botched push which he saw as pointless.

Theodor just wants money, so when Elias is trying to kill off his costumers, he is horrified, as Theodor's costumer base is dying due to Elias's cruelty and genocide.

On a wider scale, Jerusalem is disgusted at the general paganism and unchristian behavior in the world, while the Meritocratic/Democratic nations are disgusted by Jerusalem's totalitarianism.

The War to End All Wars: In Part 3, World War I was said to be this by some, just like in Real Life. Originally an idealistic slogan, it is now mainly used sardonically, since not only is the First World War not history's final war, but its aftermath also directly contributed to the outbreak of the even more devastating World War 2, both naturally and supernaturally. The natural part is clear, but the supernatural part is that all of the dead human beings in World War 1 are used as sacrifices so that Archangel Gabriel can become a new God! World War 2 was used by Gabriel to flaunt his newfound "Godhood", break all opposition to Gabriel's plans, and unleash the next step to his plans... Götterdämmerung!

YMMV.Brave

  • Common Knowledge: Merida is known for being a Celibate Hero who shows no interest in romance, unlike the other Disney Princesses, except that this has never been the case in the film. Merida never shows any opposition to being in a romantic relationship in general (it never gets brought up), but rather, she is opposed to being in an Arranged Marriage with a man against her will. Bravely would go on to shoot down the idea entirely by having her get-together with the god Feradach.

WhatCouldHaveBeen.Disney Theme Parks
  • Back in the mid-1980s, when Disney was in the midst of their Audience-Alienating Era and on the verge of being taken over, Roy E. Disney (Walt's nephew) had once considered buying the Walt Disney Company himselfnote , and one of his plans upon owning the company would've been to sell the Disney theme parks to a different company (similar to Tokyo Disney Resort, which is owned by The Oriental Land Company with a license from Disney) to focus on Disney's film and TV divisions (as Roy saw Disney as a film studio first and foremost). This plan did not go through, and Disney continues to have full or partial ownership of the parks to this day (outside of Tokyo Disney Resort).

YMMV.Tangled The Series:

  • Ship-to-Ship Combat: While Rapunzel/Flynn are the Official Couple (on top of being a One True Pairing amongst the Disney fandom as a whole) and is a Foregone Conclusion in the show (as the show takes place before Tangled Ever After, where the two get married), many fans have wound up shipping Cassandra and Rapunzel due to their Les Yay and strong chemistry in the show. This, predictably, has led to plenty of bickering and fighting between the Rapunzel/Flynn shippers and Cassandra/Rapunzel shippers over who is better for Rapunzel. It doesn't help that Cassandra and Flynn don't get along in the show.

Thanks @ The End of the World

  • Run for the Border: The oceans of District 4 contain a minefield to keep people from sailing away, but citizens still make it through and flee toward South America semi-regularly.

@ Night of the Comet

  • Pom-Pom Girl: Sam is on the pep squad and spends the first half of the film in a cheerleading uniform. She is sweeter and more responsible than her sister for the most part (a Values Dissonance line or two aside) and is just as good of a shot as Regina.
@ Night of the Comet
  • Values Dissonance: Sam uses the word “fag” (albeit not in a hateful manner), while wondering if Hector might be gay instead of a Chaste Hero.
@ But What About the Astronauts?

  • Planet of the Apes (1968): The cynical Colonel Taylor occasionally speculates that the people of Earth destroyed themselves in a nuclear war after he and his crewmates left on their mission to explore another star. The Earth All Along ending proves him right.
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes: A space shuttle takes off on a mission to Mars right before the Simian Flu kills most of humanity, although it has yet to be seen whether this is a mere Continuity Nod to the original film or if the astronauts will return later.

@ Characters Purge Series

    Eileen, Paige, and Charlie

Eileen, Paige, and Charlie

Portrayed By: Allison King, Kelly Murtagh, and Garrett Kruithof
Three people who Joe encounters while Purging, all of whom have important ties to his past.
  • Action Survivor: Paige, who lasts the longest of the three, manages to keep a cool head throughout the show trials Joe conducts and teams up with Penelope to escape. She is Blown Across the Room after triggering a mine near the end of the season finale, though.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Eileen thinks that Joe is a reasonable man who has no intention of really hurting any of his captives. He executes Charlie very quickly after she says that.
  • Reformed Bully: Possibly Charlie. He is a former Barbaric Bully who has grown up to be a homeless man who has barely survived years of Purge nights and shows remorse for his past misdeeds. He seems sincere, but he is saying that to try to save his life.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Charlie and Eileen only get a few scenes before being killed to show that Joe means business.
  • Shoot the Messenger: Joe puts Eileen and Paige on trial (planning to kill them afterward) for firing him and his coworkers and turning down an insurance claim, respectively. They point out that Eileen was only relaying the decision of her bosses and Paige was restricted by how Joe’s father had a pre-existing health condition, but Joe doesn’t care.

@ Buffy other demons

    The Moruach

The Moruach

A tribe of aquatic creatures from another dimension who come to Sunnydale in the novel The Wisdom Of War along with their ancient enemy, a beast called the Aegir. Buffy spends much of the book trying to figure out if they are a malignant force or not.
  • Forgot About His Powers: This is Played for Drama In-Universe. Their ancestors trapped the Aegir with a binding spell and the Watchers Council released the Aegir in an effort to make the Morauch cast the spell again in order to learn how to cast it and use it against other threats. Unfortunately, the present generation of the species lacks the ability to recast the spell, leaving the Aegir free to go on a rampage.
  • I Choose to Stay: They spend most of the book trying to flee back to their home dimension through the Hellmouth. However, once the Aegir dies, they decide to stay on Earth, as they like its oceans and no longer have to worry about their predator.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Throughout the book, several characters note that they yet to kill any Sunnydale citizens except in self-defense. They do consider vampires a delicacy, but that indirectly benefits the humans who most vampires kill. Ultimately, it turns out that they are non-malicious and only the Aegir is truly evil.

@ Matilda

  • Amanda gets screamed at by her teacher for wearing her hair in pigtails (which she does because her mother told her they look pretty), grabbed by her pigtails and thrown across the courtyard. While it is Played for Laughs, imagine how traumatic it is from her perspective.

    • At one point, the Magohamoth sword gets its blade stuck in a stone, Lanfeust retrieves it while referencing the legend of King Arthur.
  • Undignified Death: Rognar dies in a rather random and embarassing way for a fictionnal character. He trips in the stairs and falls on some spears.

Walter becomes this four different times:

Not only does this goes against Word Cruft - This Example Is an Example, but also How to Write an Example - Don't Refer to Other Items on the Page and Word Cruft - Positional comparatives. If someone added or deleted an example, they'd have to change the word "four" as well.

The first time, His Alternate...stranded in outer space...

The second time, His Alternate...Airlock when he cheats at the game.

The third time, A Zorgon...drop a piano down on him.

^ The word "drop" implies that it's going down, so writing "down" is redundant.

The fourth time, Upon the revelation...
