For the Magnificent Bastard cleanup thread:
- The Vampire Diaries: Silas, an ancient Traveler and the first immortal, manipulates Professor Shane into freeing him from his tomb. Desiring to destroy the other side so he can be reunited with his mortal love in death, Silas tricks Bonnie and Caroline into killing twelve witches to complete the expression triangle, uses his psychic power to convince Klaus he is dying to force him to find the cure, and tricks Bonnie into thinking he has shown her his true face. Eventually revealing himself to his doppelganger, Stefan, Silas traps him at the bottom of a lake. Silas then spends the next three months building his strength before compelling Mystic Falls to find Kathrine for him so he can consume the cure from her blood. When Qetsiyah finds a way to suppress his psychic powers, Silas finds a way to turn them back on by temporally killing Stefan to get information on where the anchor to the other side is. Finding out that his love Amara is the anchor, Silas decides to kill her so they can be together in death and returns after death to teach Bonnie and Liv a spell to bring people back from the other side as it's being destroyed.
Any corretions?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMelinda:
"survives the crash despite being showing cheerful awareness" needs fixing. Also, I'm not sure this is an example. I mean, a bad guy getting away scot-free might be valid in itself, sure, but you say he survives the crash despite being a bad person; in other words, you're making it sound as if being a bad person would somehow make you more likely in-universe to die in a crash.
I think when you say "cardsharps" you mean "card sharks".
I will make the edits later today when I have more time to sit down.
I did mean to say cardsharps and not card sharps.
I'm not sure I agree with your Karma Houdini comment. I need to have context explaining why someone is a bad person in the first place and point that they avoid the karma that their actions would normally bring. How's this for a reworking of the first sentence?
- Karma Houdini: Vogel is quite the Hate Sink, showing cheerful awareness of Hitler's plan to exterminate the Jews, relishing the Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique, and indirectly contributing to every death in the disaster by hindering the people who could stop the bomb from going off. He manages to survive the disaster with only minor injuries.
@ The Three Investigators Here's a reworking of a past The Elites Jump Ship entry that I wrote based on a review. Reading the book, I found out the review was inacurate, so here's a more accurate version.
- The Elites Jump Ship: In The Blazing Cliffs, unpopular businessman Charles Barron is convinced that society is on the verge collapse, and has withdrawn to a well-maintained self-sufficient ranch as he waits for his beliefs to be vindicated. A group of conmen fake a Benevolent Alien Invasion and offer to take Barron, his wife, and their valuables off-planet before an imminent war and then bring them back to Earth to be leaders of society once the war is over. Barron is prepared to follow their instructions (although, to be fair, he does think that his employees will be fairly safe back on the ranch, and many of them already think the whole thing is fishy) before being convinced that he's being conned.
Ranch Foreman Hank Detweiler: Why should they want Barron? He's no genius. He's rich, that's all. Do the rich go first class even on Doomsday?

Harsher in Hindsight/Marvel Cinematic Universe
- In episode 4, Walker talks about how he got his 3 medal of honor in the war of Afghanistan and how it was the worst day of his life. On August 15, 2021, the US was forced to withdraw from Afghanistan when Taliban successfully takes over the city of Kabul and reestablish themselves as the undisputed rulers of Afghanistan and ushering a new era of oppression. This meant that Walker also had the added trauma of fighting a losing war that contributed to his guilt and inferiority complex.

Melinda: I think it works if you just remove the words "despite this".
"A group of conmen fake a Benevolent Alien Invasion and offer to take Barron,"
Thanks.
- Hell in the Pacific: The film's sole two characters are killed in an artillery strike at the end, but in an alternate ending, they survive and merely go their separate ways.
An occasional variant of the trope has the villain making the same pitch to individuals or multiple small groups rather than gathering all of them together at once. One such example is If Looks Could Kill, where the Big Bad kills a finance minister who rejects his pitch after mentioning that multiple other people he's met with agreed to it.

Thanks. @ Hot Wheels: AcceleRacers Silencerz is the correct spelling.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: The main Silencerz driver is pretty well-liked for his Cool Car, his distinctive armor, and his Enemy Mine interactions with the main characters in the final movie.
- The Avengers (2012): NYPD Officer Saunders appears in one scene of the theatrical cut (which he survives), but the last of the several deleted scenes where he provides aid in the final battle has him get shot and apparently killed.

Examples for Monster Sanctuary.
Vaero
- Critical Hit Class: As a dark-shifted Vaero, it gains the shift passive Critical Apex, which increases the critical chance of every consecutive hit of an attack.
10. Yowie
Type: Beast
A hairy humanoid that lives in mountain.
- Armor-Piercing Attack: Its standard skill Tackle and ultimate skill Ram Charge ignores 25% of the enemy's damage reduction.
- Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: It is a yeti-like monster who is named after the yowies
from Aboriginal Australian folklore.
- Healing Factor: Yowies can restore its own HP with Recover and restore other allies based on its HP with Supply.
- An Ice Person: It can cast Ice Hail, Ice Storm, and Icicle Spears as its standard attacks. In addition, one of its ultimate skill is Blizzard.
- Support Party Member: Yowie's strategy involves keeping its allies alive through regeneration, while inflicting Chill to its enemies.
- Taking the Bullet: Taunt allows it a chance to take a single-target attack for an ally. This synergizes with Icy Skin, which may inflict Chill on the attacker.
11. Steam Golem
Type: Construct
A mechanical worker created by alchemy.
- Armor-Piercing Attack: Its standard skill Tackle ignores 25% of the enemy's damage reduction.
- Degraded Boss: It is your first introduction to champion Monsters, used by Old Man Buran as a training test. However, you later encounter them in the Mystical Workshop as a common enemy.
- Magically Inept Fighter: It has a Magic rating of 1 and a Mana rating of 2, which makes sustaining mana and casting high-cost moves difficult. Its low mana can be compensated with its skills, like Improved Mana Regen and Mana Burn, and its dark-shift passive Relentless, which reduces mana cost of moves.
- Mana Drain: Despite its name, Mana Burn regenerates mana whenever Burn damages the enemy.
- Mechanical Lifeforms: Despite being manmade, it is considered a monster suitable to live in the Sanctuary.
- Playing with Fire: Its primary element and resistance is Fire. Its only fire move is Fiery Punches.
- Turned Against Their Masters: In the past, the Steam Golems rebelled against its creator and destroyed its mean of production. The Monster Keepers relocated them to the Sanctuary and built the Mystical Workshop to help maintain the Golems, until they replicated and took over the Workshop. Since then, the Keepers cut off their supplies to halt their replication.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: It is your first introduction to Champion monsters. As a Champion, it has a lot more health and can act twice.
For Designated Hero Video Games:
- I=MGCM has Hanabi. Although she's the only Anti-Hero of the protagonists, one of her bond episodes (which takes place in an Alternate Universe) shows that she has crossed the Moral Event Horizon. She owns an illegal gambling den and forces anyone in it to keep playing, not caring about the aftermaths. It gets worse in the DX version: the next bond episode shows that Hanabi rapes the player protagonist Tobio when he tries to quit the game. Her role of being a Loan Shark in the main universe certainly doesn't help. Although she doesn't manage to reach these lows in the main canon version, the bond episodes may imply that these moments are canon.
For Hopeless Boss Fight Video Games:
- I=MGCM:
- Downplayed in the second final stage in the fourth chapter of the first MGCM arc if you fight the Drake demon. However, the battle ends after the Drake demon launches the diving attack on the party. And the game still rewards you with diamonds for completing the stage for the first time.
- Played straight in the second final stage in the fourth chapter of the first IMGCM arc. The heroines are unable to defeat the Titania demon because of her high HPs and high damage output. Besides that, you cannot quit the stage, making it clear that you have to lose/having the party wiped out before progressing to the next episode. It happens to introduce Marianne's new dress upgrade into the Rebirth Magica dress.

"No matter how bad the heroes can get or how bad the situation is, we're sure we can overcome it and get our happy endings..."Here is an example for Necromunda that I would appreciate someone looking at.
- Bloody Murder: The chems used to create a Death-Maiden turn their blood toxic. These reanimated assassins use this blood to enhance the lethality of their Toxic weaponry.
Note: The capitalization of Toxic in the last sentence is intentional as it is the name of a class of weaponry in the game.
"Yowies can restore its own HP" should read "Yowies can restore their own HP".
"Its low mana can be compensated with its skills" should replace the "with" with "by".
"In the past, the Steam Golems rebelled against its creator and destroyed its mean of production." You should replace "its" with "their".
"Since then, the Keepers cut off their supplies" should read "Since then, the Keepers have cut off their supplies".
- Oh, and anyways, since we at the TV Tropes contains forbidden topics of China, regardless of you would be surprised or not, but good luck erasing any browsing history of you at this website.
- For example, Chinese-Canadian Kris Wu was banned and scrubbed from Chinese internet due to him being detained by Beijing authorities on rape allegations in the end of July of 2021 and was planned to be deported to Canada sooner or later.
- Not much later after the Kris Wu incident, all the more than 20 companies have suspended their partnership with Chinese actor Zhang Zhehannote in August of 2021 because he has posted controversial photos of him attending Yasukuni Shrinenote and once also attended a wedding at Nogi Shrine (the both shrines that revere soldiers who fought for Japan, including Imperial Japanese soldiers who were historically recorded committing atrocities such as Nanking and Unit 731) on social media was discovered, which caused outrage among many Chinese netizens. Wahaha, a Chinese drink brand which have now-terimated partnership with Zhang, stated that "national dignity is something that can't be disturbed", followed by other brands, which also have terimated its parternship with the offending actor, made smiliar statements. Now that several enraged Chinese internet users were called for a banning of Zhang because of the incident.
- Visitng any Japanese shrines that revere soldiers who fought for Japan, including Imperial Japanese soldiers who were historically recorded committing atrocities such as Nanking and Unit 731, mostly the Yasukuni Shrine, is a way to anger many Chinese peoples (and also can open up some old wounds for the Chinese government), which they rather call it a place of "demon-worshipping", and that'll can be held liable against you for insulting their national diginity. Pokemon International Company, Ai Kayano, and Zhang Zhehan (see above on "Anime and Manga" or "Live-Action TV" section for information) has learned this the hard way.
- In April 30, 1975, the helicopter were on top of the the US embassy on former South Vietnam, with the Vietnamese refugees taking on it before the North Vietnamese communist takeover of the country during the final day of The Vietnam War, thus established known as the Operation Frequent Wind. Several years later, on August 16, 2021, the helicopter was on the top of the US embassy on Afghanistan, with the Afghanistan peoples taking on it before the Taliban can reach them while wrecking havoc on the country again after fighting more than a decade, and peoples were comparing the fall of Saigon to the Taliban attack on Afghanistan.

Decided to create a page dedicated to the lesser-known sequel to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (pre-Rankin/Bass) from 1954.
Ever wondered what happened after Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer helped Santa after a foggy Christmas Eve and became a member of Santa's reindeer team? Well the question is answered in the 1954 book Rudolph Shines Again (originally titled Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Shines Again) which is a direct sequel to the original 1939 story.
A year after Rudolph became a hero in the North Pole, but set on Christmas Eve (hours before Santa's annual delivery to children around the world). Santa chooses Rudolph to work at his workshop. However, his eight reindeer all become envious of Rudolph's fame alongside still not respecting him by giving him a lot of work to do. As a result, Rudolph's nose briefly loses his ability to glow (and not as shiny) after feeling put upon by the other reindeer. Ashamed for his nose not glowing, he leaves the North Pole where he befriends a group of rabbits. After helping the rabbits find their missing children, Rudolph's red nose begins glowing again. The story ends with him returning to Santa Claus
◊ to help him on another foggy Christmas Eve. He even changes Rudolph's job from working on toys, to tasting candy for next Christmas Eve
◊ (much to the delight of Rudolph).
Unlike the original book where it was illustrated by Denver Gillen. This story was illustrated by Marion Guild sticks closer to Gillen's original Rudolph design mixed with his design from the 1948 Mex Fleishcer cartoon. ''Rudolph Shines Again" would later get paired up with the original story for a special edition
◊ honoring Rudolph's 25th Anniversary in 1964 with new illustrations
◊ by Marion Guild
◊.
While "Rudolph Shines Again" has yet to receive an animated adaptation compared to it's predecessor. This story has been re-told three times in the past. First was a Golden Book adaptation released in 1982 which shortened the story alongside removing the rhyming scheme. Lisa Papp's version from 2004 and Antonio Javier's version from 2014 sticks closer to the original 1954 story.
Rudolph Shines Again provides examples of:
- All of the Other Reindeer: While the reindeer celebrated Rudolph's accomplishment on helping Santa. In this story, the reindeer in the workshop alongside Santa's reindeer start acting unfriendly with him out of envious. They even make him do the harder jobs in the workshop (such as pulling a sack of heavy toys into Santa's sleigh as the other reindeer are playing outside, and making Rudolph "the ball" during a game of football). Due to this, Rudolph's red nose briefly stops glowing after feeling put down by them.
- Brought Down to Normal: For a majority of the story, Rudolph's nose stops glowing causing him to act like a regular reindeer.
- Green-Eyed Monster: All of Santa's reindeer (including some inside the workshop) begin acting unfriendly around Rudolph due to claiming "Rudolph gets more credit compared to them". Some of the reindeer begin picking on Rudolph once again due to getting extremely jealous.
- My God, What Have I Done?: When Santa starts worrying that Rudolph won't return in time for his Christmas delivery. His eight reindeer start feeling ashamed and guilty for how mean they treated him. When Rudolph returns, they all apologize to him.
- Rhymes on a Dime: Like the original story, the entire story is told through rhyme.
Edited by brb1006 on Aug 16th 2021 at 12:06:23 PM
- Canon Foreigner: Police surveillance expert Bug Bailey, D.A. Fletcher, and Caprice's accountant Numbers are all original characters who never appeared in the comics.
- Villain Song: Back in Business
, where the singers at the Big Bad's nightclub sing a song about how he's "back in business" after the only man who can stop him has been framed for murder. The scene has a montage of the villains shaking down honest merchants, gleefully murdering police officers, and counting increasingly large piles of money.
- Signature Scene: The Villain Song Back in Business
is cited by some fans of Al Pacino as their favorite moment of the movie.
- Supreme Court Justice Ashland is introduced as being terminally ill with cancer but refusing to resign due to feeling that no one Bartlett could appoint to replace him will be a worthy replacement. These scenes take on a harsher undertone after Ruth Bader Ginsburg refused to resign for similar reasons and ended up dying during a Republican administration and being replaced by a judge opposed to many of her positions. Many are worried this will be repeated with Justice Breyer (which has caused a very heated debate on whether he should retire while his party narrowly controls the Senate) can make the episode even more uncomfortable.
- In "The Supremes," Judge Shelton is treated pretty dismissively for being a centrist who views the facts of each case with no political bias. By the 2010s, with the Supreme Court heavily divided along ideological lines (and with a growing conservative majority), many people are sick of that partisan maneuvering and would be delighted to have objective centrists like Shelton deciding the nation's most important cases.
As of August 2020, Biden's popularity has been declining due to the rise of COVID-19 variants, a worsening economy, and the Taliban conquest of Afghanistan months after Biden withdrew American troops from Afghanistan while proclaiming that Afghanistan wouldn't turn into another South Vietnam.
@ Batman (1966): Rogues Gallery
- Batman Gambit: In his first appearance, Penguin launches a fake crime spree then spies on Batman and Robin as they debate about what audacious crime they think he's planning next, with Penguin taking his cues from their theorizing. This strategy causes Batman to plan the Penguin's crime for him without ever realizing it.
- Chick Magnet: Joker has a new glamorous Moll by his side in almost every two-part episode he appears in.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Catwoman is briefly mentioned as a suspect for the bank robbery in "Zelda the Great," ten episodes before her first actual appearance in the show.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Zelda is one of the least dangerous and malicious villains in the show, but she figures out Batman's plans to trap her when a valuable jewel is conveniently on display. Instead, she kidnaps Harriett Cooper while Batman and Robin are staking out the jewel store. She also shows up at the jewelry store and uses smoke bombs and trick mirrors to make Batman and Robin charge off in the wrong direction.
- During the film class, the teacher, Those Two Guys who debate with Randy about Sequelitis, and (to a lesser extent) the girl who knew Maureen and is depressed about her death are all unnamed and only appear in that one scene, but they're pretty well-acted and particularly memorable characters.
- Retcon: Annabelle heavily implies that the Higgins' daughter is their biological child, or that they adopted her when she was a baby, due to Mr. Higgins agreeing that children are a blessing before adding "And then they learn to talk." In the final scene of this movie, they adopt Janice when she's an adolescent. However, it's possible that Mr. Higgins is only joking, or that the Higgins' have an older biological or adopted child.
- The montage showing public support of the Elite growing after the death of Atomic Skull is grim, but it is softened by how the first two people interviewed say that they still respect Superman, even though they don't think his methods are effective.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: The Big Bad of the first book brags about his plan to become as powerful and influential as Donald Trump and Michael Bloomberg. In 2012, that comment merely meant that the evil sorcerer's ultimate goal was to be like a pair of real estate tycoons. In the 2010s, after both Trump and Bloomberg have run for president (the former successfully), this makes him sound even more ambitious and megalomaniacal.
- Asshole Victim: While they aren't as bad as Atomic Skull, the leaders of Bialya and Pokolistan are both jerkasses and warmongers. Their deaths at the hands of The Elite evoke some Nightmare Fuel, but not much sympathy.
- The Cameo: The Bottle City of Kandor (with some tiny specks which appear to be its residents flying vehicles flying around the city) appears for about ten seconds when The Elite visit the Fortress of Solitude to threaten Superman.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: After Menagerie is wounded in the climax, Coldcast cares more about her safety than fighting Superman.
- From Camouflage to Criminal: In the Backstory Karsta and many of her friends in the Kryptonian Stellar Navy became pirates and mercenaries after the navy was disbanded. Returning home would have cost them the powers they gained under yellow suns, as well as their cherished lifestyles as soldiers. However, many of them eventually returned to Krypton or retired to more peaceful lives.

- Broken Base: Depending on who you ask, Susan stripping down to use her rubber wetsuit to avoid electrocution is either tasteless gratuitous Fanservice, enjoyable gratuitous Fanservice, or a way to show the character being resourceful and vulnerable.
