@ This Means War (2012)

  • Critical Dissonance: The movie has a 26% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes but has a 50% or higher positive reception on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic user reviews, as well as IMDB.
@ Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Ensemble Dark Horse
@ The Last Stand @ Invasion U.S.A. (1985)
  • Auto Erotica: Two teenagers are sitting in a car (although it's unclear whether they intend to go past the heavy kissing stage) in the suburbs scene. In an inversion of Death By Sex, staying in the car helps keep them alive when Rostov starts blowing up the nearby houses.
  • Night Swim Equals Death: A couple taking a night swim right where the terrorists are about to come ashore get shot a minute or two after getting out of the water.
  • Spare a Messenger: When two terrorists shoot up a Cuban block party while disguised as cops, one of them has to remind his Trigger-Happy partner that they need to spare witnesses to falsely incriminate the cops.
@ Tom Swift
  • Androcles' Lion: Prior to the second book of the fifth series, Swift Enterprises executive Yvonne Williams was kidnapped by anti-technology terrorists. One of her guards was dying after being bitten by a snake, and Yvonne used her cellphone battery to shock him back to life. The next day, that guard let her escape.
  • Impersonation-Exclusive Character: In "The Space Hotel," a scientist invited to the eponymous location is kidnapped and replaced by an Eco-Terrorist. While the real scientist is rescued, this happens off-screen, and he never meets Tom.
@ The Purge Series
  • Properly Paranoid: The correspondent wants to expose the evils of the Purge as a warning to Europe. In the season finale, European politicians do consider implementing their own Purge (although based on the murder tourists in the fourth film, they fail).

@ The Trial of the Chicago 7 The Woobie

@ Octopussy @ Malcolm in the Middle
  • "Blackout" has three somewhat twisted moments.
    • Lois gives Francis sincere relationship advice when she thinks he and Piama are fighting (Francis is lying about that while trying to steal a stuffed fish).
    • Hal gets Reese to cook Kobe steak, saying it's for Hal (the procurer) and Reese (the cook) to eat, and Lois won't get any even though it's her anniversary, but Hal really plans to switch Reese's steak with Lois's as a present to her.
    • After Dewey drugs the rest of the family, the Dutch party girls Malcolm snuck over have fun hanging out and eating cereal with Dewey and say it wasn't fair for his parents to break their promise to let him pick dinner.
@ Power Rangers Dino Charge Heroes
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Albert is a somewhat rugged adventurer (even if he is a bit of a fraud) who has no problems with being the Purple Ranger.

"on-screen chemistry".

"also having dated the same guy".

"a following years later."

"a lot more focus than their romantic ones."

"In the first episode, Miley's afraid to tell Lilly she is Hannah, in a way that resembles someone being afraid to tell their childhood crush they like them."

"The Movie also gives a lot more focus and weight to their fight than to that"

"Lilly eventually gets with Oliver, but the show makes it clear that Miley is her most important relationship, and she chooses to help Miley over Oliver multiple times. Like this?

  • Hannah Montana: A lot of Mikiley (Mikayla/Miley) shippers latched onto shipping Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus (Siley), perhaps even more than their characters, despite Selena only appearing in two episodes of the show. Mainly due to the two's real life friendship, which continues to this day, them often being very affectionate towards each other in public, and their on-screen chemistry. This is despite also having dated the same guy, Nick Jonas, at different points. The pairing still has a following years later.

  • Hannah Montana:
    • Miley and Lilly are just supposed to be best friends, but most fans think they have more chemistry together than with their actual love interests. Their relationship is filled with Les Yay, and is often given a lot more focus than their romantic ones. In the first episode, Miley's afraid to tell Lilly she is Hannah, in a way that resembles someone being afraid to tell their childhood crush they like them. The Movie also gives a lot more focus and weight to their fight than to that of her Boy of the Week, Travis. Lilly eventually gets with Oliver, but the show makes it clear that Miley is her most important relationship, and she chooses to help Miley over Oliver multiple times. When the two do fight it comes off to many fans like an old married couple. There's a good reason most fanfiction about the show interpret them as already dating.
    • Miley and Mikayla are supposedly rivals, but their dynamic comes off more like Belligerent Sexual Tension to a lot of fans. When Miley first meets Mikayla she basically squees, and acts like a girl with her celebrity crush. Meanwhile despite not getting along with Hannah, Mikayla seems to adore Miley, and acts more affectionate towards her than towards her actual crush, Jake. Mikayla also hates Lilly and acts like a girl jealous of someone else being close to her crush.

Alright, I don't frequent this thread but, I would like to make a case for this deleted example from YMMV.Genshin Impact because it does have merit. It just needs to have its grammar fixed, that's all (originally added by Seven369 who got suspended recently for poor grammar).

  • Xiao quickly establishes himself as one of the game best DPS and perhaps the fastest as well, with a combination of his reliance on critical hits. As a brutal Lightning Bruiser, he boasts a really strong base attack that easily rivals Diluc and top of that he’s really fast as well. His Elemental Skill, Lemniscatic Wind Cycling, can be used while he’s on mid-air, which not only very easy to use but also have a very fast charge as well and allow him to attack Ruin Guards and Ruin Hunters right on their weak spot easily, making the usually annoying enemies turn into an absolute work only in seconds. But perhaps his best ability lies on his Elemental Burst, Bane of All Evil, which gives him an attack buff at the cost of his health, that able to stacks to 25% with help from his 1st passive talent. This turns his already strong attacks and ability into a whole new level, not only his speed is increased, his lunge attack turns him into a brutal AOE damage dealer that allow him to stagger enemies easily and his Anemo element allows him to easily fuse with certain other elements at ease, increasing his utility. On top of that, his Crit Rate raise as you level him up, combine him with powerful weapons and Artifacts that boost his Crit Rate/DMG, he easily destroys his enemies with powerful attacks and will frequently spawn Crit DMG every time. As a bonus, he had a passive that will allow you to survive falling from high places and reduces stamina for climbing, which adds up to his utility besides battling. At full constellation, he able to endlessly spams his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst easily.

@ Smallville Awesome Music The second one is technically a pothole but since one of those is the link to the song itself is that ok?

  • Emil and Tess's renditions of "How do We Do," in "Fortune" while they're dressed as Elvis Presley and June Carter.
  • The untitled original song called "How Could it Happen to Me" that plays when Clark visits a football stadium after giving up a chance to play college football due to fear about controlling his abilities on the field.
  • This piece that plays during one of Clark and Lana's separations.
  • The fast, catchy use of "Funny Little Feeling" during the foreplay between Alicia and Red-K Clark in ''Unsafe."
  • "Feels Like Today,'' which plays when Clark and Bart Allen race.

  • Best Friends-in-Law: Victoria seems to have been close with her late father-in-law, based on a couple of photos and the fact that he left the leadership of their organization to her instead of his son.

  • Family Extermination: Victoria threatens to torture every living relative Napoleon has to death out of vengeance for the death of Alexander. She doesn't live long enough to get the chance.
  • Bait the Dog: Until his Kick the Dog moment in the last ten minutes of the movie, Oleg seems more reasonable and pleasant than his American counterpart Saunders.

@ Power Rangers Ninja Storm

  • Kapri disguises herself as the Thunder Rangers' grandmother and asks Marah how her costume looks. Her sister quips that it makes her look years younger. The disguise itself briefly fools the Thunder Rangers (despite Kapri keeping her pink hair and losing her fake nose) until an observing Marah can't keep herself from laughing.
  • As Lothor is experiencing a headache over a failed plan, Marah and Kapri barge in, clog-dancing and playing English music. Lothor vainly tries to make them stop as several of his foot soldiers and even Zurgane get into the music and start dancing.
@ GoldenEye
  • Dropped a Bridge on Her: Downplayed but, for all of her prominence in the movie, Xenia is yanked to her death less than a minute into her final fight with Bond, right as she seemed to have the upper hand.
@ GoldenEye
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Xenia Onatopp just a minion to Alec, or are they lovers? There does seem to be a bit of chemistry between them on the train, especially when they smile at each other while escaping in the helicopter.
@ The Trial of the Chicago 7
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: In real-life, several cops who beat protestors were indicted at the same time as The Chicago 8 (and by the same prosecutors), but this goes unmentioned when it could have further humanized Schultz and Foran and drawn more attention to the Police Brutality
@ Monk
  • Randy meets a French cop who's a big fan of Randy's garage band (presumably through YouTube) due to feeling like a kindred spirit. The two of them mortify their superiors by singing the song together (with the French cop replacing the lyrics about Stottlemeyer's mustache with a line about his own boss's goatee). Then they take everyone to a nightclub filled with Randy's French fans, and as everyone else realizes what's about to happen, Randy "unmasks" and goes up on stage for a Iive performance. Women start throwing their underwear at Randy, causing a horrified Monk to flee the building.
Natalie: Do you notice anything odd about the men in this place?
Randy: They're all powerful examples of raw male masculinity.
Stottlemeyer: That's funny, because I thought they all looked kinda like you.
Randy: That's what I just said.
  • Monk is awed to see a motorcrotte (a French scooter picking up dog poop), and the driver pawns it off on Monk, who feels so empowered by it that Natalie compares him to a mounted western lawman.
@ El Dorado
  • After Jason is arrested, Joey asks if she can talk to him, then casually says "Never mind" after being told she'll have to hand over her gun before they let her in.
@ In the Mouth of Madness
  • Hidden Depths: Harglow doesn't read Cane's books, saying he lacks the stomach for them. Unfortunately, this causes problems due to his lack of knowledge about those books' dangerous content.
  • The Stoic: Wrenn is unruffled and polite while dealing with an axe murderer in a Room Full of Crazy and hearing a story about a Lovecraft Country location.
     Axe Maniac
Played by: Conrad Bergschneider

  • An Axe To Grind: He attacks Trent in a restaurant with a bloody axe.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: He lost his mind while reading the sample chapters from Cane's latest book and learning that he's a fictional character and the world is about to end.
  • Good All Along: He's introduced attacking Trent with an ax and an insane expression on his face, but according to Cane, he was motivated by having read that Trent would be the one to bring Cane's book back to civilization and herald the end of the world.
  • No Name Given: He's only ever called "Cane's agent" or "that lunatic."

@ Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue

  • Gun Twirling: On occasion, she twirls her blaster pistol after firing it.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Kelsey is one of the faster-moving Rangers and puts a lot of power behind her blows in a fight.

Tales of Crestoria Characters

  • Brains and Brawn: Villain example. They are lead scientists of Medagal working for King Gabel and the creators of Makina, who kills transgressors. Forte is the brains since he's the smart one while his twin brother Assid is the brawn since he's interest in fighting and he's not as smart as his twin brother.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: Like her Destiny counterpart, Chelsea has romantic feelings for Garr, but he doesn't feel the same way and refuses to give her a proper answer. She gave Valentine chocolates to Garr for two years and confessed her love for him, but he finds some elegant way to wave it off.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Chelsea has only her eyes on Garr and she's not into anyone who isn't him. In the Love's Arrow Loosed event, she is thinking of using a loverune arrow to make Garr fell in love with her, but it fails since the arrow hit a monster instead.

Twisted Wonderland Characters

  • Does Not Like Spam: His least favorite food is mustard. According to his Birthday Suit SSR personal story, Trey doesn't like mustard because he and Chenya once put it in one of the five cream puffs and tried our hand at the luck of the draw. Trey picked the bad one and there wasn't any water to wash out the taste and he was tearing up.

  • Trademark Favorite Food: Candied violets. In Trey's Birthday Suit SSR personal story, the reason why candied violets is his favorite food because he tried them before he started elementary school. He was so amazed that edible flowers existed, so he got really fixated on them. He describe the taste as the fragrance of the violets spreads throughout your mouth when you eat them is so great; it’s like you’re lying in a field of flowers.

Grow

  • Gratuitous Greek: The mobile versions of Grow Cube and Grow RPG have Japan-exclusive extensions called Grow Cube Omega and Grow RPG Sigma.
  • No Name Given: While several creatures have their names revealed in other games by the same creator, most of them aren't given a name anywhere.

Knuckleheads

  • An Aesop: It's not a series that runs on aesops but The Silicon Psycho episode does send the message that making fun of people during their childhood can have a bad impact on them once they grow up.
  • All Men Are Perverts: Raoul lusts for, and attempts to flirt with, every attractive woman he meets. His father is no different.
  • Blatant Lies: Walter tells his wife that he hated having sex with a bunch of alien women, even though he clearly enjoyed himself. She's not fooled, slaps him and tells him she was just turning the light off (she installed a lamp that turns on and off by clapping the hands in her garden earlier).
  • Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up: Even as an adult, Harvey Smitty doesn't regret bullying Nealan who would grow up to become the Silicone Psycho. In contrast, Jimmy, who was another bully of Nealann, grew up to become a police officer and visits Nealan in prison to apologize to Nealan after his arrest.
  • Cultural Translation: The season 1 episodes were reanimated when they were translated into other languages than the original French. They also modified every references to Quebec to be references about Canada in general.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The air-force attempts to attack a Zwizz spaceship, only for the spaceship to obliterate every plane in less than a second.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The concept of the Knuckleheads started with short episodes that were only a few minutes long and didn't have any recurring characters, though character designs tended to be re-used. They latter switched to a 20 minute-episode format and established a universe but still did a few short episodes after that.

A couple from VMMY/Goosebumps (both from the same book)

Ass Pull: The twist for "How To Kill A Monster" has the monster being allergic to humans and dying as soon as he tries to eat the kids. While the idea isn't that absurd in isolation (allergic reactions can be fatal, and it's not that weird some things that are harmless to humans could be poisonous to a monster, similar to how chocolate is harmless to humans but poisonous to dogs) it still makes no sense considering the monster himself outright says "I'm allergic to humans!" right before he dies. If he knew it all along, why was he trying to eat the kids? Unless he somehow didn't realize they are humans or is just Too Dumb to Live?

Idiot Plot: In "How To Kill A Monster", if the grandparents had just called a zoo, or science lab, or something similar to collect the monster instead of locking it up in a "forbidden room" where the kids could free it. none of the bad stuff would have happened. Even worse, the grandparents leave a note saying that they were going to tell the kids and their parents not to come after they found the monster, but were just really lonely. To be fair, the kids react to this revelation by getting really mad and pointing out how stupid and selfish the grandparents were to do this.

Some days I reach 650 words faster than others. For the past few weeks, I've almost always been able to wait until the evening to make a post, but here I have to post early. I'm hopeful about getting a response before tomorrow, but understand that's unlikely, and just have to hope I don't think of many tropes for the rest of today.

@ White Sheep

  • The western novels of William Johnstone and his niece J.A. Johnstone often (but not always) do this with villainous families, particularly with female members.
    • In Blood Bond: Gunsmoke and Gold, one of the local ranchers oppressing the territory has three sons: a Serial Killer, a greedy idiot scheming to commit an Inheritance Murder, and a Nice Guy who is disowned for courting a Farmer's Daughter.
    • In Blood Bond: Gunsight Crossing, feuding ranchers John Carlin and Bull Stratton have about ten kids between them. Two of those kids are Star-Crossed Lovers, while the others are all in bed with the local outlaws and plotting to kill their parents.
    • In "Journey of the Mountain Man," Fae Hanks is a Nice Girl who's maintained a longtime friendship with the daughter of her Drunk with Power father's rival. Her three brothers are spoiled, Trigger-Happy, and set up Fae to be raped to provoke their father into starting a bloody range war (not that he needs much of an excuse) before trying to kill him for his money (leading to a Mutual Kill between the four Hanks' men).
    • In The Last Gunfighter: Manhunt, three of the four sons of Corrupt Hick Silas Crowder are dumb, lazy, mean-spirited thugs who enjoy rape and assault. The fourth, Tom, is a soft-spoken young man who takes care of his sick mother, does manual labor at the ranch, and avoids getting involved in criminal activity.
    • In Thunder of Eagles, Ike Clinton is a greedy, murderous land-grabber, and his older sons Ray and Cletus are drunken, lecherous, bullies who eventually sink to murder. Ike's youngest son Billy is a kind, honest man (something credited to his late mother) who becomes Star-Crossed Lovers with the daughter of the Big Good. Billy sometimes warns the heroes about his family's plans even while reluctantly assisting with them out of familial loyalty. During the final battle, Billy accidentally shoots his girlfriend and then commits Suicide by Cop.
    • Frank Childers in Destiny of Eagles is an outlaw, but he doesn't hurt anyone (at least onscreen) and risks his life trying to help two wounded relatives. Frank's two brothers and two cousins are Trigger-Happy rapists who ultimately don't care that much about each other.
    • Kathleen in Pride of Eagles is acting as The Mole for her two half-brothers (who Would Hurt a Child) but is pretty unhappy about it and would rather be an honest singer.
    • In Bleeding Texas, Ned Fontaine is a ruthless, temperamental, and ambitious (albeit honest) rancher. His sons are a Hot-Blooded wastrel and a murderous schemer out to destroy their neighbors, while his daughter is a level-headed Nice Girl.
@ Shoot the Builder Parker
  • In Flashfire, Julius Norte, the man Parker is buying a fake ID from, is attacked by a hitman sent by a previous client (implied to be a former drug dealer) out to eliminate anyone who knows his new identity. Parker speculates that the client also got plastic surgery and then probably killed the doctor. The guy even sends hitmen after Parker in case Norte told him anything. This turns out to be a Revealing Cover-Up and gets the client caught by the FBI after the police capture one of his hitmen.
@ Hero of Another Story @ Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
  • Leap and Fire: Joel often fires his gun while in the process of jumping and flipping.
@ Grimm
    Lauren Castro
Played by: Lisa Vidal
A District Attorney and aspiring mayor who makes two Season 2 appearances.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: While she's initially upset about Nick and Hank reopening a death penalty case tied to her campaign, she does call the governor to delay the execution when they call her claiming to have new evidence. She's also willing to let Hank and Nick talk to the press rather than capitalize on it herself (although they let her do it anyway).

One for EverQuest II

Valkyrie: They exist as monsters, mainly live in Everfrost, and usually worship E'ci, the goddess of winter. Despite looking like angelic beauties they are far from friendly, and start out hostile to all of the player races, although one can make them more amicable by raising one's faction standing with them.
