Le Chat

  • Look-Alike Lovers: When The Cat's wife appears in early comics, she tends to be drawn as a female clone of himself. She as a more distinct appearence in later comics.
  • Losing Your Head: One strip is about The Cat's nephews casually removing The Cat's head from his body during his sleep and playing basketball with it. In the end, they put the head back on The Cat's body and he doesn't seem to have noticed anything weird after he wakes up.
  • Medium Awareness: The Cat and sometime other characters are clearly aware that they are comic book characters.
  • Protagonist Title: The Cat's name appears in the titles of every comics.
  • Shout-Out: Characters and references from other comic books tends to often appear, especially from francophone comics.
  • Smart Animal, Inconvenient Instincts: By default, The Cat acts in a very human manner, but there's a strip where he interupts himself to chase after a mouse and apologize for his instinct to the viewers after catching it.
  • The Yellow M Shout Out: The cover title of La Marque du Chat ( Meaning The Cat's mark, taken from "The Yellow Mark", the French title of The Yellow M) is a parody of The Yellow M's cover

Blacksad - Characters (Neal Beato)

  • Everyone Has Standards: While he laughs easily, he does not find racist jokes funny and they just make him uncomfortable.

Canardo

  • Above Good and Evil: When Rasputin orders his men to burn a village, Canardo asks him to stop because it's bad, Rasputin simply kicks him in the head from his horse and tells him that he is above good and evil.

Hi guys. Thanks for the corrections. Here's another try.

Three Headscratchers for Bedtime Stories:

  • How a bee ended up in Skeeter's ice cream? Okay, the film's plot involve the idea that everything the kids say to happen in their bedtime stories happens the following day, but it has no sense why a bee would be stuck in the ice cream on the first place. Bees don't sting ice creams!
  • How is possible that the guy who stole Skeeter's wallet some days ago still had his wallet with all his money and documents there? Shouldn't he have taken the money and disposed of the documents by then?
  • If Kendall had been successful in blowing up the school with Patrick and Bobbi inside, should he have gone to jail for it? Of course, due to his status as a Jerkass, Kendall didn't bother to check if anyone was still on the building, but Patrick and Bobbi should already know that the school was going to be demolished and everything inside it will be destroyed, and Kendall did warn the protestors to ensure their safety.

Here's one for Serious Sam 4

@ There Was a Crooked Man...

  • Accidental Murder: Coy Cavendish hits the angry husband of his latest girlfriend with a billiard ball in self-defense. The husband dies, and Coy is sentenced to hang.
  • Bait the Dog: The Missouri Kid is an amiable man who tries to help his cellmates and dreams of settling down as a farmer after escaping. He also murders one of the kinder guards in cold blood during the escape, although this causes him to have a Sanity Slippage and abandon trying to escape.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Prison guards Whiskey and Tobaccy are only ever called by the nicknames they received due to their preferred choice of bribe.
  • Pet the Dog: Skinner is a hard-nosed guard who disapproves of Lopeman's more lenient tactics, but after the riot, he doesn't rub it in how Lopeman's plan didn't work.
@ Before Midnight
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Buff's only talent is presenting solid outlines for intuitional campaigns, O'Garro is a salesman, and Assa is a copywriter. None of them possesses the advertising genius that led to the contest in the first place, something which causes a lot of tension between them and the talented upstart Dahlman.
@ Troubled Fetal Position
  • In the fourth Lake Placid movie, after they get away from the scene of a gruesome crocodile attack, Elaine finds Brittany sitting down, knees to her chest, and with her arms wrapped around her legs as she looks out across the water.
@ Frasier Seasons 7 To 11
  • After being re-elected as cork master of the wine club, Niles sarcastically commends Frasier for being a Graceful Loser after demanding 'only'' four recounts. Niles also jokes about hoping he can live up to the example of his predecessor (namely himself).
  • As soon as Martin finishes forcing his sons to make peace, the other wine club members start teasing Frasier and Niles for getting scolded by their dad.
@ Let the Galaxy Burn Alas, Poor Villain
  • General Du Bu is a loyal accomplice to Pol Qo, a power-mad pretender to the Azure Empire's throne. Still, Du Bu genuinely (but incorrectly) believes that the man they're rebelling against is going crazy rather than making necessary preparations against a genuine threat. Du Bu is falsely accused of incompetence and disloyalty by his friend and superior and is gunned down under circumstances he considers shameful and ignominious, clinging to life just long enough to see the assassin who framed him kill Pol Qo. Du Bu dies knowing that their dreams for the empire have amounted to nothing.
@ The Wild Wild West
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Loveless's accomplices Antoinette the songstress and Voltaire the strongman. Many fans like to theorize that Antoinette is the mother of one of Loveless's children from the first reunion movie.
@ DoubleShot
  • Spear Carrier: 001 appears hovering around to provide security at the peace conference and plays a minor role in the climactic shootout (which he survives).
@ Pitch Perfect
  • Nice Girl: Jessica and Ashley are both good team players despite being Out of Focus, and Jessica tends to be smiling widely except when she's working hard during rehearsals or being insulted.

For Video Game Generations: Fifth to Sixth:

  • Tail of the Sun is an obscure caveman simulation RPG for the PS1, and was created by Artdink. The gameplay is horrible, the landscape areas have a low budget feeling, the UI for name input is unintentionally unnerving. And there's no gameplay music inside the game except the dream ending scenes, which is also too strange to be heard (and seen). It's reviewed in Electronic Gaming Monthly and they gave it a score of 2.875 out of 10.

I have an entry I wanna put down for Unwinnable by Mistake, but I feel like it might need a little trimming. Can someone potentially help me out with this?

  • Stage 4 in Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a direct cause of this. The fourtb boss is a giant worm that also functions as a platform, and the only way to kill it is by destroying the five "wounds" located around its body. However, they can only be reached by throwing projectiles, so if the boss is reached with the sword, the game's sole melee weapon, it becomes impossible to defeat, since its range isn't long enough to hit the "wounds", and the smaller worms it constantly spawns can't drop weapons. This is merely just an annoyance in most versions, since dying to the boss puts you back at the stage's halfway point where a different weapon can easily be acquired from a chest or an enemy, but it's a complete death sentence in the Genesis/Mega Drive port, since dying at a boss will put you right back at the boss, stalling all progress and rendering the entire game unfinishable.

Still edit banned, but there is an update for Age of Empires II with the new information of the two new civilizations from the DLC (Burgundians and Silicians) and if anyone is kind enough to update the Characters.Age Of Empires II Civilizations page (in addition to updating the civilization bonuses and team bonuses, I'm also linking to the respective wiki pages for TV Tropes readers to understand some terminology well. And to make things easier for the reader, "micro" in Age of Empires 2 relates to micromanagement):

For Burgundians:

  • Charged Attack: Their cavalry unique unit, Coustillier can slowly build up their own attack by moving, and can unleash their charged attack on a single target before losing it's charge.
  • Composite Character: The civilization combines aspects of the historical region Duchy of Burgundy and region of Holland (based on Burgundian Netherlands).
  • Difficult, but Awesome: The Burgundians is considered to be one of the most difficult civilization to play properly for several reasons:
    • Their unique cavalry unit, the Coustillier, is a micro-intensive unit that builds up a charge attack while moving. This means in order to fully maximize their Charged Attack, the Coustillier attack must hit the right target (such as a weakened unit or units with very low HP such as an Arbalester or Halberdier) can help turn the tide of the battle. Wasting the charged attack on a wrong unit (such as a War Elephant or a Teutonic Knight) can backfire on the player.
    • Fitting into the "turning the tide" theme, the Burgundians unique technologies, Burgundian Vineyards and Flemish Revolution, are considered double-edge sword technologies; as the former converts all of their food into gold, while the later converts all of their villagers into Flemish Militia. These technologies can either greatly help the player, or can hurt the player economically if used inappropriately. More specifically, these technologies are based out of several mechanics seen in Age of Empires III (the Burgundian Vineyards is based on certain Home City Cards that can convert one resource into another while the Flemish Revolution is based on the Revolution mechanic).
    • Finally, the Burgundians are classified as a cavalry civilization, but they miss out on the Bloodlines technology, which is an important technology that improves the durability of their cavalry. This means the Burgundian Paladins will not able to win straight-on fights against other cavalry civilizations (particularly civilization with access to both Paladins and Bloodlines), but can win cavalry fights with proper micromanagement with their Paladins and Coustilliers.
  • Foil: To Franks, as both are cavalry oriented civilizations based around modern day France with access to the Paladin unit. While the Franks are considered a Skill Gate Character for newer players due to their straightforward technology tree and synergistic civilization bonuses and unique technologies, the Burgundians falls into the Difficult, but Awesome category since the Burgundians miss out on Bloodlines (see Necessary Drawback), and two of their unique technologies, Burgundian Vineyards and Flemish Revolution, are double-edged sword technologies that can backfire on the player if used inappropriately. They both also have access to their own unique infantry unit as well. While the Franks infantry is a ranged melee infantry unit that can be trained in the Castle, the Burgundians must research Flemish Revolution to access their infantry unit, the Flemish Militia, which can be trained at the Town Center instead of the Castle.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: The Burgundians can research their economic upgrades an age earlier, and can upgrade their Knights into Cavaliers in the Castle Age.
  • Necessary Drawback: The Burgundians can upgrade their Knights into Cavaliers in the Castle Age and their Stable technologies cost less. To balance it out, they miss out on Bloodlines, a key important technology for their cavalry units that makes their cavalry units more durable.

For Silicians:

@ The Victors Project and for the Wolf in Sheep's Clothing Quotes page. I think there are some grammar mistakes in the quote for the second awesome moment, but that's the way it was written.

  • The Ranchers of District 10 turn "each ranch into a veritable death trap of snares and booby-traps."
  • The final battle of District 10 sees two hundred peacekeepers killed in four minutes. The Anasazi come out of the mountains in a "ramshackle cavalry charge." Bovina leads the charge from the roof of her old mentor's truck, with a pistol in one hand and a pitchfork in the other. The peacekeepers (led by Thread's brother) turn their backs on the Settlers they've been subjecting to a Death March to return fire at the Anasazi and quickly regret it.
As one, the Settlers rise up from the dirt. From their packs and bags they pull out the weapons they smuggled along on the march. Meat cleavers, butcher knives, firearms that the Anasazi smuggled to them from the moment the Quell was announced. Every man, every woman, every child has something to fight with. And when Thread and his peacekeepers see the glint of steel and hear the first gunshots, they understand their last mistake. Look weak, act pathetic, march into the desert like sniveling, cowardly fools. The tributes weren't the only ones who learned a thing or two from Johanna Mason.
@ The Victors Project
  • During the second rebellion, every single Settler turns on the Capitol, and it's made clear that they've never forgotten what the Capitol did to Danny and Elena's children.
  • After the final battle of District 10, there's a simple yet stirring comment that the Settlers and Anasazi of District 10 go home "Together." It's also notable that the title of the chapter is "District 10 Unites."
@ Districts Five To Twelve And The Capitol
  • Death March: When the peacekeepers realize that the settlers have turned against them, they burn the settlements and march the settlers across the desert for two days with just one water bottle per person. They plan to leave them stranded to die of thirst before the Anasazi put a stop to that.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: The Settlers are loyal to the Capitol in the first rebellion but come to hate them due to "[c]rude and vile stereotypes about the District's affinity for animal husbandry becoming the staple of late-night Capitol television," their farms being confiscated to line the pockets of Capitol investors, and the deaths of so many children in the Games.
@ The Victors Project
  • Jossed. The chapter is a series of vignettes about individuals who suffered during the rebellion, although there is a description of a peacekeeper prisoner being tortured to death.
  • Jossed. There is a western-style climax (which the narration compares to a cavalry charge), but the ranchers side with the rebels. The only rebel identified by name in the chapter is Bovina.
@ Fargo: Season Four
  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Some fans theorize that Clayton Winckle stole Loy's credit card idea, while others think a third party developed it independently while Loy suffered delays due to his race. There's also some debate about whether Winckle criticizes the concept of a credit card due of ethical issues about charging unfair interest rates, racism against Loy, or just because he isn't smart enough to appreciate the potential profits.
