This thread is for tropers who have trouble with English and would like some help with the crazy grammar of this crazy language.

Write down what you wish to edit on the wiki. If you have been suspended from editing, another troper might be kind enough to edit for you after your suggestions have been corrected.

The thread is for help and feedback on your own suggested edits.

If you want help correcting other people's edits (e.g., if you find a page which seems to have grammar problems but want a second opinion, or you don't feel able to fix it by yourself) then that's off-topic here, but we have a separate Grammar Police cleanup thread that can provide assistance.

Hello, this is Blackbison 01. This is my recent re-edit or one of my first posts.

Yu-Gi-Oh!!

Jonouchi Katsuya/Joey Wheeler

Of everything among Joey’s feats the Duel Monsters anime didn’t live up to, omitting his manga-exclusive altercation with Bandit Keith the night prior to the duelist kingdom finals was a big mistake. Keith sneaks into Joey;s room and steals his qualification card needed to participate in the finals. When Keith exits the room Yugi catches him, though only after the deed, and assumes he was attempting to break in. As Yugi shouts to warn Joey, Keith brutally assaults Yugi and tries to silence him. Cue Joey appearing behind Keith, and proceeding to deliver a beat down so hard he knocks the bloody wind out of him and drops the goon like a ton of bricks The last time Joey delivered such an ass whooping, he fractured the jaw of a Bruce Lee fanboy and martial arts practitioner who assaulted Yugi for petty reasons and robbed him of the Millennium Puzzle. Joey definitely has come a long way since the manga’s beginnings.

some tropes for

for Yasuye

  • Undignified Death: Invoked by Orochi. In feudal Japan, a death by gunshot was dishonorable. Orochi has Yasuie captured and tied on top of a pole in the middle of a square, and then personally shoots him multiple times. This gets played with, since Yasuie gets to flip off Orochi before getting executed and causes many of Orochi's followers to doubt him.

I said "and" because what flipped off Orochi is not the same thing that caused Orochi's followers to doubt him

Orochi

  • Eyes Always Shut: When he was a servant he kept his eyes constantly closed, giving him a more servile appearance as well as a way to hide his true and vile nature.

for Big Mom

  • Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: When she was a kid, she had large round eyes to indicate her innocence and childish goodness. As an old woman her eyes have a greedy and matriarchal look, reflecting her current personality. When she loses her memory and believes herself to still be a child, her eyes are drawn just like when she was five years old to indicate she's good. The eyes turn evil again once her memories return.

This gets played with, <- comma since Yasuie gets to flip off Orochi before getting executed, which causes many of Orochi's followers to doubt him.

When he was a servant <- no comma he kept his eyes constantly closed, giving him a more servile appearance as well as a way to hide his true and vile nature.

Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: When she was a kid, she had large and round eyes to indicate her innocence and childish goodness. <- period As an adult, (???) her eyes emphasize how evil and greedy she is. When she loses her memory and believes herself to still be a child, her eyes are drawn just like when she was five years old to indicate she's good. The eyes turn evil again once her memories return.

^ (???) Does she have "evil eyes" as a teenager? As an adult?

^ Zero-Context Example. You say what her "good" eyes look like ("large and round"), but you don't say what her "evil" eyes look like or what makes them evil.

Sometimes a licensing is better then writing an original piece of work. And if you have good tastes in music you may know some really good obscure song. But be careful as the song may be too obscure,as people may mistake it as an original song.

Accidental Theme Song, is when a obscure song becomes popularized by a piece of media, that it becomes heavily associated with it.Many will not know it was an original song before it,and in fact many will think it was written for that piece of media or will become so ingrained with the image of the media that when people here that song they think of that piece of media. Accidental Theme Song doesn't have to be a theme song,it can just be a song that is popularized by that piece of media.

Related to the concept of a Forgotten Trope. It is very similar to the “The Weird al effect” as it’s referencing a piece of media that people don’t realize is referencing. This is usually a result of “Older then they think”, but not always” but isn’t always. This differs from “Pop culture osmosis” were the song becomes so icnoinc and used that people forget were the song.

EX.

Anime and manga

Most jappness and anime fans would think the song”Green Green” was written for the series nichijou, when in actuality it’s an american folk song from the 60s by the The New Christy Minstrels

Movies-live action

The Dick Dale rock n roll instrumental “Misirlou” has basically become the theme to Pulp Fiction,in fact it is often called the Pulp Fiction Theme. Most people don’t relize it was written in the 1960s let alone know it’s based off ancient Egyption song.

Both the “Sound of Silence” and “Mrs. Robison” falls into this trope. Many including film enthusiast think they were written for the classic american film The Graduate, when in actuality they wasn’t, It was on the top billboard charts for weeks before they added the editors, added it to the movie. Many probably think this becuse the practice of adding songs from the radio in movies was rare at the time.

The song “Sing In The Rain” was a song used in many MGM musicals before it was used in Singing in the rain ,but everyone thinks of Gene kelly dancing in the rain when they hear it rather then the other times it was used..

“Smile Darn ya smile” is actually a song from 1931,not wrttiten for “Who Frammed Roger rabbit” but if you sang it.

Western animation- film

The most infamous case is “All Star” with Shrek. Many people to this day think it as the shrek song, despite the music video including clips from mystery men and being used in the digimon movie a year before. Which is ironic considering it was never ment to be in the film to begin with!

Western animation -television

The finnish folk song” Matalii Ja Mustii” is known as The Binky Song,to anyone not finish, because of its uses in Arthur. In the episodes Binky rules and Meet Binky, the obscure finnish folk song is used as the new hit pop song from the new hit band Binky. Why the Staff of Arthur choice this song of all songs to be the in universe hit single,is still unknown.

The theme to Looney tunes “The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down” was a original with actual lyrics, the almost no one knows that

Music

Despite “ Baby Shark” being sung at summer camps and preschools for years,Pink Fongs version of the public domain song ,is the one everyone knows and has become their mascot

Real Life- Often called “Here Comes The Bride”, the song Bridal Chorus is the traditional song played at weddings when the bride walking down the aisle. One would think, this song was written for this even when ,it was actually written for an obscure 1850’s opera called Lohengrin. It became stable after Queen Victoria’s daughters played it at her wedding. The irony is the song is actually is a song of tragedy,as in the oprea this is song right before the bride commits suidce.
