some tropes for

[[folder:Lord of the Coast]]

Lord of the Coast

Debut: Chapter 1 (Manga), Episode 4 (Anime)

An aggressive sea king who lives near Dawn Island. He appears in the first chapter, where he eats Higuma and is then scared away by Shanks.

  • Deus ex Machina: Zig-Zagged. The Lord of the Coast appears almost out of nowhere and kills Higuma, who has kidnapped Rufy, but then attacks Rufy as well, who would've become his dinner had Shanks not intervened.
  • Expy: His appearance is very similar to Ursula's moray minions.
  • Fangs Are Evil: Justified, since he's a predator and needs fangs to hunt down his prey, humans included.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His red eyes make his aggressive nature clear.
  • Sea Monster: He's the first of the Sea Kings seen in the series, appearing like a giant moray-like monster. Later on, it's seen that he's very small compared to most sea kings, some of which are as big as an actual island.
  • Slippery as an Eel: The Lord of the Coast is very similar to a moray and is a sneaky and vicious predator.
  • The Worf Effect: Twice in the same chapter. He debuts swallowing Higuma whole, a dangerous bandit (in the East Blue, at least), only to be scared away by Shanks's glare (later revealed to be Conqueror's Haki) afterward. At the end of the first chapter, Luffy defeats the Lord of the Coast with a single punch to show how strong he has become.

^

An aggressive sea king who lives near Dawn Island.

The Lord of the Coast appears almost out of nowhere and kills Higuma, who has kidnapped Rufy, but then attacks Rufy as well, who would've become his dinner had Shanks not intervened.

His appearance is very similar to Ursula's '''moray''' minions.

Justified, <- comma since he's a predator and needs fangs to hunt down his prey, humans included.

His red eyes make his aggressive nature clear.

He's the first of the Sea Kings seen in the series, appearing like a giant moray-like monster. Later on, it's seen that he's very small compared to most sea kings, some of which are as big as an actual island.

^ Is "sea kings" a proper name/noun or a common noun? A proper name/noun is capitalized. A common noun isn't capitalized.

Twice in the same chapter. He debuts swallowing Higuma, a dangerous bandit (in the East Blue, at least), whole, <- comma only to be scared away by Shanks's glare (later revealed to be Conqueror's Haki).

In addition to the typical Mid-Season Upgrade, some Riders also have to learn how to use the many gimmicks and forms provided by their Transformation Trinket. Serial Escalation with the summer movies providing an extra optional form.

The first Kamen Rider is subtle about it: <- colon both Riders later change into more powerful Mid-Season Upgrade forms. However, there's no emphasis on the difference in Power Level.

V3 has "26 secrets" from the start. But since the Double Riders were Put on a Bus early on, he has to discover each of them by himself.

^ How is this a Next Tier Power-Up? That is, how do the "26 secrets" increase his abilities? As is, this is a Zero-Context Example.

X gets a Mid-Season Upgrade with Mercury Circuit that makes him become three times more powerful.

"three times more powerful" is ambiguous.

Does it make him:

  • three times as powerful
  • three times more powerful, which would be four times as powerful?

some tropes

for the Akazaya Nine

  • Despair Event Horizon: The day of the Fire Festival, during which they've planned assault Onigashima to defeat Kaido and Orochi, they find out that no one has come to Port Tokage to help them and that the port has been raided, ruining their 20-years long plan and destroying their hope of dethroning Orochi. Dogstorm is desperate to the point of taking a boat and going all by himself despite the huge storm.

for Hyogoro

  • Mentor Archetype: He's an old and wise Yakuza boss and a master of Armament Haki. While they are prisoners in Udon and for the entire week before the raid to Onigashima, he trains Luffy to master it, often using extreme methods .

for King Neptune

(description): He's a wise, if absent-minded king who cares for the good of his kingdom.

  • Accidental Misnaming: He's very forgetful and often misnames the people, even the simplest ones, such as calling Zoro "Zori".
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: He's very carefree and absent-minded, to the point that the ministers have scolded him on more than one occasion. When necessary, however, he becomes serious and competent.
  • The Good King: He's very fair and reasonable, claiming it's not fair to arrest the Straw Hats on the basis of a prediction, and wants to end the cycle of revenge just like his wife wanted.
  • Happily Married: He deeply loved his wife Otohime, respecting her ideals even if he did not understand them, and despaired after she was assassinated.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Claims that he used to be much more vindictive, but his defunct wife, Otohime, helped him to become a better person.
  • Top-Heavy Guy: A rare legless example, but his upper body, expecially his shoulders, is much wider than his waist.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: When he's underwater, he doesn't wear anything, leaving his bare torso naked. He did wear a black jacket at Otohime's funeral and wears a coat when attending the Reverie.

Some Tropes for Aŋra Mainiiu/Angra Mainyu from Fate/Stay Night

  • Adaptational Nice Guy:In Zoroastrian Myth, he was simply an Evil God who enjoyed causing chaos and loathed creation for no good reason. Here he's given a far more sympathetic background, having been an innocent man from a village who was tortured and transformed into the Embodiment of "All the world's evils".

  • Adaptational Species Change:Here he Was Once a Man who was transformed into an Eldritch Abomination rather then having simply been a God like his Mythical counterpart.

  • Devil, but No God:He's based off the Zoroastrian equivalent of The Devil, but His Good Counterpart from the Myth, Ahura Mazda is never alluded too.
