This thread is for tropers who have trouble with English and would like some help with the crazy grammar of this crazy language.

Write down what you wish to edit on the wiki. If you have been suspended from editing, another troper might be kind enough to edit for you after your suggestions have been corrected.

The thread is for help and feedback on your own suggested edits.

If you want help correcting other people's edits (e.g., if you find a page which seems to have grammar problems but want a second opinion, or you don't feel able to fix it by yourself) then that's off-topic here, but we have a separate Grammar Police cleanup thread that can provide assistance.

Thank you @ The Canterville Ghost (1997) This 1997 adaptation of The Canterville Ghost and the Culture Clash between an English ghost (Ian Richardson) and the American family living in his house is notable for a few changes to normal character dynamics, as well as being a rare version apparently set slightly earlier than the 1887 setting of the original book as opposed to the usual Setting Update.

Tropes:

@ The Canterville Ghost (1997)
  • Ginny's constant kindness to Tom, who even the other servants look down on a bit.
  • The unpleasant Lucretia finally letting her guard down enough to give Ginny honest insight about her love life, while admitting her own origins were more humble than she always let Ginny think, and recalling romantic episodes of Hiram that inspire Ginny's own elopement plans.
@ The Canterville Ghost (1997)
  • One of the twins runs through Sir Simon's ghost with a sword the first time the family sees him.
  • Sir Simon's confrontations with each of the three experts brought in to get rid of him. He humiliates Madame Murielle and Reverend Dampier and then sends them both fleeing in terror. Professor Davenport does catch him in an electrical field but, after Ginny provides a distraction, Simon sticks his sword (electrified by the field) out to tap Davenport and zap him unconscious.
ymmv 1997 @ Tom Swift
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: The Sansoth in the third series honor treaties and deals, respect life debts, and will grudgingly make allowances for Poor Communication Kills First Contact. They also engage in suicidal fights as a matter of clan honor and consider it a worthy Darwinian test to leave un-hatched eggs with no way to defend themselves or know their surroundings on a planet of predators whose population the Sansoth keep high.
  • Human Aliens: In the third series, the human explorers are sometimes mistaken for Chutans or Karshe (who also have Earth-like cats), despite a few bone structure differences.
    • After DeVille kidnaps Tina and Tom briefs the police on everything DeVille did up to that point, Chief Montague gets a "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot lecture as she analyzes everything illegal DeVille has already done while menacing Tom and Rick that they could have and should have used to get him arrested before then.
    • TANC simultaneously outperforming three champion monster trucks at once at a demolition derby.
@ Rick Brant
  • Damsel Assist: The villains of The Electronic Mind Reader capture and tie up Barby and Jabn, but the girls turn on a hidden walkie-talkie to let Rick know what is happening and, during a fight over a gun after he arrives, Jan kicks it out of a villain's reach.
  • Coming of Age Story: May Amelia is a preteen Finnish girl growing up in a mostly male Oregon immigrant community.
  • Life Saving Misfortune: Kaarlo is bitter about having to live with his cousins because his family didn't have enough money to take all of their kids with them right away when they emigrated. It turns out his parents, siblings, and dozens of their new neighbors all died in an epidemic.
  • Papa Wolf: The father of a young man missing after a ferry wreck beats the incompetent captain (who was warned not to go out in bad weather) into a coma after learning he survived.
  • Umney the butler's nonchalant reaction to being dragged to the roof by the ghost and left hanging to the chandelier as his new employers lower him down.
  • Sir Simon sitting across the room from Mr. and Mrs. Canterville as they adorably flirt and kiss in an Insatiable Newlyweds way without even noticing him until he transforms into a spider and crawls onto their bed.
  • Cassandra Truth: The entire Ranger unit telling their superior the house is haunted gets them accused of lying in concert and given a Punishment Detail.
  • In the Blood: Cowardice is a Canterville trait, with family members having run away from duels, charged the wrong direction in the Charge of the Light Brigade, and been the first man to reach a sinking ship's lifeboat despite being the captain.
  • Women Are Wiser: Mrs. Otis is more patient and sympathetic with Ginny than her husband and tries to talk him out of rashly signing a lease before looking deeper into the ghost stories.
  • Claire spends her free days helping Ben prepare his defense in a supposed false prosecution civil suit.
  • Randy Dworkin sharing a drink with Jack and Serena in his first appearance and agreeing they just did their jobs by convicting his murderously Zionist client but that they can at least hope God is more forgiving to him than the legal system.
@ Dance of the Dead
  • Gwen pulling off a Big Heroic Run, ducking and dodging through a zombie crowd to reach a getaway car for everyone trapped at the funeral home.
  • Keel singlehandedly slaughtering a whole herd of zombies at the garage.
  • Jimmy and Lindsay keeping their composure and avoiding notice as they try to reach the detonator to blow up the zombie-infested school, first by sneaking in the shadows, then by dancing amongst the crowd when Nash and his band play their music to distract the undead.

Here is a Fan Theory for Another Apple Sleep Experiment.

The real reason that Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo abandoned a partially paralyzed Apple Bloom wasn't because Scootaloo found it difficult to see Apple Bloom unable to walk on her back legs and Sweetie Belle blamed Apple Bloom for getting partially paralyzed... it was because Apple Bloom's sister Applejack tried to kill Rainbow Dash (Scootaloo saw Rainbow as a big sister figure) and killed Sweetie Belle's father.

It makes sense, as Apple Bloom says that they only claimed it was too difficult to see her unable to walk and blamed Apple Bloom for what happened to her as their reasons for no longer being her friend.

Trivia.Schaffrillas Productions:

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 :

  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: These are amongst the hardest games to get legitimately, as their mix of low sales (by Pokémon standards) and high favorability amongst fans makes it so that legitimate copies are highly valued on second hand markets, with just the cartridge alone usually costing upwards of hundreds of dollars.

YMMV.Pac Man:

  • Older Than They Think: The limbed design for Pac-Man is widely thought to have originated from Pac-Man World. However, the design had been around from the very beginning, as it was used in the first game's marketing in Japan.

YMMV.Pokemon Adventures:

  • Audience-Coloring Adaptation This was one of the few adaptations to flesh out the player characters from the games, so it was common for even game-centric fanfics to use the Adventures personalities as the basis for the protagonists (if not the anime). This goes double for protagonists who weren't focused on or adapted in the anime (e.g. Ethan, Brendan, Green/Leaf, Lucas, the Gen 5 protagonists, etc.). This extends to the games as well, as Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! and Pokémon Masters would borrow elements from Adventures to flesh out the trainers.

One Piece: Final Saga

Chapter 1147

  • Killingham points out that the situation in Elbaph implies that if they drag their feet and provoke the Straw Hats, they will undoubtedly face the fury of Straw Hat Luffy. In response, Sommers advises Gunko to take it easy with Brook, as he also wants to avoid a confrontation with Luffy. This highlights that even within the ranks of the Holy Land's Praetorian Guard, Luffy's reputation as a newly minted Emperor of the Sea is taken very seriously, especially following his clash with the Five Elders at Egghead.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Kaiba Corporation and Death-T

Big Five

  • Sore Loser: Johnson, in particular, has set his sights on Joey in the Big Five's Tag Duel, driven by lingering resentment over his previous loss. This emotional baggage is also what prompted him to push for the Tag Duel in the first place, while he simultaneously underestimates Joey, ignoring Leichter's warnings about both issues. Although Johnson tries to deny his motives, everyone sees through his façade, and the other members confront him angrily about this behavior after Joey ultimately becomes the key player in Yugi's victory during the Tag Duel.

Characters.Pokemon Adventures Unova

(Hilbert)

  • Adaptational Personality Change: While Hilbert is a Blank Slate in his original game, he is said to be coolheaded on the official website and Coro Coro magazine, which is reflected in Masters. This is not how he is depicted in Adventures, where he is one of the loudest and most Hot-Blooded characters in the manga.

(Hilda)

FandomEnragingMisconception.Anime And Manga:

  • Kill la Kill: The final episode doesn't confirm Ryuko/Mako and suggesting otherwise is guaranteed to kickstart a ship war. While the two do agree to go on a date, it's deliberately ambiguous as to whether or not the date in the epilogue is a romantic date, since not only does Satsuki join the two, but a later scene with Gamagori shows him holding a bouquet of flowers, hinting he intends to confess to Mako (whom he had Ship Tease with prior). Ultimately, no pairings are confirmed, with Word of God opting to keep things open-ended.

YMMV.Little Witch Academia 2017:

  • Subbing vs. Dubbing: While the English dub is not considered to be bad and many argue it better matches the show's British setting, many still prefer the Japanese version over it, disliking the changes to the script and finding the performances to be subpar and lacking the energy of the Japanese version. There's another portion of the fandom that dislikes the dub for not being authentic, with every character having an American accent despite almost none of the characters (except for Amanda) being American.note

Thanks

  • Chekhov's Gun: Reberty's tape recorder (that he uses for important conversations) turns out to be the source of key evidence.
  • Exact Words: The prosecutors lampshade that Reberty testifying he got paid "a little over a million" was a way to avoid perjury charges when it was "a million over a million."
  • Females Are More Innocent: Nurse Hale is the only one of the three conspirators who tries to make sure Drew will stay alive throughout the entire kidney theft and build-up, while Woodleigh doesn’t specifically want him dead but says to kill him if necessary and Reberty leaves a vein opened up in an effort to have him bleed out and not be a witness.
  • Parker distracts a creepy Goth worker by getting him obsessed with the dead bodies in the cryonics lab, where he later takes an equally Nightmare Fetishist female coworker for a makeout session until Parker poses as a zombie to scare them away from the con.
  • The team tricks the mark into thinking that he has been cryogenically frozen for thirty years and that a Chewing the Scenery Harry now owns his company and is putting him to work mining cobalt as an indentured servant.
  • The indentured servant hackers guarding the villains' servers are cosplaying as Lord of the Rings characters when Eliot and Parker arrive and make a You Shall Not Pass! declaration before throwing glitter at the heroes and running off.
  • After Vergere, Jedi Order contract pilot-turned-Rebel privateer Rogue Planet (Star Wars: Legends) is probably the new character fans wanted to see more of, although he only returns in a sourcebook.
  • Enola solves the clues to a cache of money hidden in her mother's flower cards.
  • Each of Tewksbury's hiding places inside a bag, especially when he does it to break Enola out of boarding school.
  • Enola fakes being drowned to escape an assassin, waiting until after he has walked off, then giving a cheeky smirk before resurfacing.
  • Tewksbury survives being shot due to wearing a hidden suit of armor.
  • The whole sequence where Eudora and Victoria break Enola out of jail: between the strategic coordination it requires from the prisoners, the explosives utilized in the ensuing chase, and the ju-jitsu beatdown the two women and Enola give to Grail and his men.
  • Sherlock deciphers some mysterious numbers in the Moriarty case, only to find a taunting message in them.
  • Enola's "Eureka!" Moment where she realizes Sarah/Cicely's dual identity.
  • The shootout and acrobats at the theater in the climax, especially the moments where Enola briefly uses a makeshift trapeze, little Bessie bites her captor's hand and later snatches evidence Grail is about to destroy, and Tewksbury duels The Brute with sabers and then their fists in his first real fight.
  • The strike to bankrupt the corrupt factory, especially everyone defying the brutal foreman.
  • In Ark Two:
    • Tom and Aristotle instantaneously make a fake voice recording implicating the captain (who finds this Actually Pretty Funny) in a ridiculous and fictitious plot to prove that a recording implicating their friend K'orli in a conspiracy could also have been easily faked, regardless of what bigoted Obstructive Bureaucrat Overmann says.
    • The whole sequence where Tom and B'eti journey across a dark ocean to Bring Help Back, take their underwater sled on some crazy maneuvers to avoid a Macross Missile Massacre and also narrowly survive a carnivorous squid attack.
    • Tom and Ben use a hologram to make their captors think there is a landslide and flee in terror.

    • The scene where Tom finds millions-of-years-old alien footprints on the dark side of the Moon.

  • Humans Are Special: It is implied, but not outright stated, that the third series only takes place over a year or so, during which time humanity goes from just having a city-sized space station to colonizing moons and asteroids, making First Contact, and becoming a major member of the The Federation, which existed long before they came along.
  • Undesirable Prize: A comic-relief subplot in Gateway to Doom has Playful Hacker Ben and Robot Buddy Aristotle both enter a commercial jingle contest. Aristotle wins a robot servant and Ben wins free computer lessons.

And even some fans who can forgive that view George as irredeemable for sabotaging the parole of his Lovable Rogue convict girlfriend because he likes knowing where she is all the time.

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Simon outwits and runs off multiple experts brought in to banish him (although he needs some help from Ginny with one) and is actively plotting to use Ginny to break his curse when it is something she stumbles into and volunteers for in the book and most adaptations.
  • How They Treat the Help: Ginny is much more considerate of the servants than her mother, and Simon recalls how his wife was nice enough to them in his time that it provoked fatal Mistaken for Cheating jealousy when she extended that pleasantness to a painter with a crush on her.

Since I got a message about needing to fix my grammar, I posting my edits here for correction.

Teutons

  • Church Militant: The Teutons is used to represent many Christian factions, like the Knight Templar, the Knight Hospitaler, and, of course, the Teutonic Knights.
  • Citadel City: Crenellations increases the range of their castles, which is useful as the Teutons lack Bracer, and allow their infantry to add arrows when garrisoned. With its attack range of 13, they can shoot back at Bombard Cannons and Cannon Galleons that doesn't have Siege Engineers researched.
  • Religious Bruiser: Their units are defined by their heavy melee armor and their zeal that makes them nearly unconvertable by enemy Monks. This is represented by their team bonus, which increases their conversion resistance.

Teutonic Knight

Sturdy infantry units with innate conversion resistance.

  • Scissors Cut Rocks: With their high durability but low speed, one would think that they would be vulnerable to conversion, like War Elephants. However, the Teutonic Knights have so much conversion resistance (their natural resistance, their team bonus, and Monastery technologies) that they are nearly unconvertable.

Long time no see, Arivne. I want to add an entry to the YMMV page of Blue Archive. Let me know if this needs correction.

  • Breather Boss: Decagrammaton Chokmah, at least compared to the Fury of Set mentioned in That One Boss below. Unlike Set before it, the main gimmick for Chokmah is to drain its reactor gauge to force it into recovery mode, increasing its damage vulnerability, and its attacks can be blocked with deployed covers, which greatly opens up overall team composition since the only mandatory students you had to bring are one or two DoT debuffers like Swimsuit Saori and Azusa and cover-deploying units like Swimsuit Kirino. You can also use the ballista provided by the level to briefly stagger Chokmah and cancel out anything it activates provided you timed it right, allowing you to blast it with anything you got, up to two times per round. Overall Chokmah is considered a step up when it comes to the game's boss design, at least compared to the glorified DPS check that is Fury of Set before it.
