My Hero Academia - All For One
- Asshole Victim: He is such a massive petty bastard (move text) to everyone that when he dies from being aged backwards no one but his brother (superfluous word - cut) even mourns him.

For YMMV.Wicked:
- Fan-Preferred Couple: Despite Elphaba canonically paired with Fiyero and running away with him in the end, most fans prefer to pair with Glinda, due to the two's friendship being the heart of the play and feeling like they have better chemistry. It certainly helps that both the original book's author and several cast members have said that they feel like Elphaba and Glinda were in love with each other and could have ended up together if things had played out differently.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadFor Do Well, But Not Perfect Video Games:
- Zettai Zetsumei Toshi:
- Including the global version. In the first game, Masayuki Sudo/Keith Helm can do anything, such as giving her water and choosing dialog options that please her, to raise Mari Aizawa/Karen's affinity (the same goes to the optional heroine Natsumi Higa/Kelly Austin), but don't raise it to the max because then the helicopter won't appear to save them both because they're too late, so both of them die from getting drowned in the submerging building at the end. The best ending you can take is the ending 1/normal ending of the Aizawa route, where Sudo/Keith and Aizawa/Karen get rescued by the rescue team's helicopter.
- In Zettai Zetsumei Toshi 2: Itetsuita no Kiokutachinote , in order to have all protagonists in each episode survived, you have to get ending B (rejoining as an underling for Governor Tanabe/Mayor Goldstein)note or C (having the Echidna virus tank went missing in the middle of the sea) in ???'s arc (a.k.a. Yuuji Hayami's/Ivan Kozlov's). Because if you tried to find out all the truth about Shintomi Pharmacy and the "Devil's Research", it's revealed that Hayami/Ivan is one of two researchers of Shintomi Pharmacy who are ordered by Tanabe/Goldstein under the alias Apolon to create a dangerous Echidna virus to kill everyone in Tomisaka/Del Ray city and the whole nation. In the ending A, although Hayami/Ivan manages to destroy the Echidna virus by electrocuting it, he gets mercilessly killed by Tanabe/Goldstein after that and is the only arc where the ending A (the ending which is usually has the protagonist surviving) has the "survived" stamp being strike-through with two lines. Furthermore, after ???'s arc, regardless of the ending, Kazuya Shinohara's/Joshua Harwell's second arc (or Masayuki Sudo's/Keith Helm's, if you get the A ending of Tsuge/Isaac's arc and the mystery is solved) has him getting the data disk that will save the world from the Echidna virus and successfully escaping from the submerging city, making it sure that Tanabe's/Goldstein's evil plan foiled.
Addition to Zettai Zetsumei Toshi work page:
- Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Near the end of Summer Memories, Kelly Austin / Natsumi Higa gets crushed to death by a collapsing building right after pushing Hiroko (one of her students) and the protagonist to safety. What make it even worse are the facts that the protagonist of Summer Memories suddenly halted at the exit when the aftershock occurs, prompting Higa/Kelly to shove both of them to safety (which is unnatural since the protagonists in previous games are able to run and escape just in time without hesitation); she was successfully rescued by Sudo/Keithnote , Nishizaki/Paigenote , Kosaka and Makimuranote in previous works. That event of Summer Memories renders the whole rescue efforts throughout the series meaningless.

"No matter how bad the heroes can get or how bad the situation is, we're sure we can overcome it and get our happy endings..."I'm actually having problem with creating a best description for it, can you suggest your own variants.
- Hilda's Grand Finale gives us The Fairy Entity. Unlike other fairies in the show that resemble ordinary humans, the Entity is a towering spirit in a night sky-like cloak with a glowing circle for face and a creepy eery voice that can change into the Voice Of Legion. It acts the ruler (or even the embodiment) of the Fairy Country, where most of fairies were abducted as humans from the Human World in the past, while all other magical creatures were droven away. The most defenite trait is the Entity's love to make a rather sadistic bargains with human lifes even when they don't benefit it, being too stubborn to let go of its Good Old Ways.

Carlito Keyes
- (before) Asshole Victim: Played with; Carlito is by no means a good person, completely willing to kill thousands of innocent citizens to satisfy his lust for revenge. However, the American government killed everyone in his home town to cover up their own scientific mistake, mistake made to satiate their own greed, including his own parents. Carlito became a monster who deserved his final fate, but no one deserves to go through what he did to become that.

Doctor Barneby
- (before) Grumpy Old Man: Barnaby's first inclination on meeting Frank is to shriek at him through the barring gates trying to swash him with his walking stick through it. Later interactions with the doctor shows his disposition did not improve with time, still being the same cantankerous, dodgy and secretive sort.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: The horrific thesis Russel contemplated while working a world away from home came back to bite him with a vengeance. The creator and inventor of zombism for the sake of lasting life, inevitably fell victim to the nightmare he created in waking death. It doubles as fridge brilliance as in Dead Rising 4; he admits his own inquisitive nature would be the end of him when it came to the Willamette outbreak.
- And Then John Was a Zombie: What he eventually became after justifying his actions with the last gasp of life.
- Boom, Headshot!: How he faces actual death after his infection takes hold by Brad's hand.
- Evil Old Folks: Took part in the experiments that created the zombie parasites that infected and killed numerous innocent people, making the worst mass murdering affliction known to man that slaughtered scores across two continents. All he was concerned about was feeding the gluttony of U.S. Citizens while researching into making mindless slave labor for the government he worked for to exploit and calling it a death cure.
- It's All About Me: The way he talks about procuring his own well being while countless thousands die off due to his past crimes come to light really shows he cannot see the world beyond himself.
- Jerkass Has a Point: He may have gotten a lot of people killed and ushered in multiple disasters, but Barnaby was trying to end world hunger, and pursue a viable method of halting human aging. Subverted, in part, given he was only seeking to feed greedy gutted rich Americana over the rest of the impoverished countries of the globe.

Sakura Hiden: Thoughts of Love, Riding Upon a Spring Breeze
- Birds of a Feather: Sakura and Tsunade has a conversation that revealed how Naruto and Hinata's relationship works. Despite their contrasting personalities and fighting styles, Naruto and Hinata have an adaptable dynamic that makes their relationship work. Their mutual friends, including Lee, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino, have noticed that there are more similarities than differences between them. Both Naruto and Hinata have had to face discrimination and setbacks growing up, but they share qualities such as perseverance, loyalty, and self-doubt. According to the databooks and Konoha Hiden, they both enjoy red bean soup and have a love for preserving plant life. Interestingly, their signature colors, Orange and Purple, are connected by the "Red String of Fate" on the color wheel
◊. Living in a world where empathy is often frowned upon, Naruto and Hinata can empathize with others, which has been critical to their evolution from friends to romantic partners.
With Naruto. Lee, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino, who are ardent supporters of the couple, argue that Naruto and Hinata share many similar qualities despite having different personalities and fighting styles. Both are considered failures by those around them, both suffer from the statuses they inherited at birth, and both seek acceptance and recognition. Additionally, they are both kind-hearted, determined, loyal, and insecure. According to the databooks and Konoha Hiden, both enjoy red bean soup and are passionate about plant preservation. Furthermore, their signature colors, orange and purple, share a common"Red String of Fate" on the color wheel
◊. Finally, both are highly empathetic, even though this trait is often looked down upon in their world, which is one of the reasons why they develop a deep friendship that eventually blossoms into love. Sakura and Tsunade's conversation in Sakura Hiden revealed that Naruto and Hinata's adaptable dynamic with one another is what makes their relationship work.
With Hinata. Lee, Sakura, Kiba, and Shino have pointed out that despite having different personalities and fighting styles, Naruto and Hinata are very similar to each other. Both are considered failures by everyone around them; both suffer because of the respective statuses they have carried since birth, and both want to be acknowledged and accepted. They are both really nice, dorky, determined, loyal, and insecure. According to the databooks and Konoha Hiden, both like to eat red bean soup and preserve their plants. Their respective signature colors, orange and purple, share the common color "Red String of Fate" on the color wheel
◊. Finally, both Naruto and Hinata are incredibly empathetic despite living in a world where that trait is easily looked down upon. This is one of the reasons why they develop a strong friendship that grows into love. Sakura and Tsunade's conversation in Sakura Hiden revealed that Naruto and Hinata's adaptable dynamic with one another is what makes their relationship work.
For Backstory Horror, Drama Bomb Finale, and Subverted Kids' Show Video Games:
- Mizuiro Blood seems to be a child-friendly, heartwarming cute game about the titular robot Mizuiro having her happy school life with non-human friends and teachers on the Earth, until it's revealed that the game takes place in the Shared Universe of UGSF series, 500 years after Ace Combat, where UIMS (the non-human force Mizuiro joins) ruled the Earth. The final stage is when Mizuiro joins the space war against aliens and ends with the apparent Heroic Sacrifice, but survives. Unfortunately, however, the epilogue/final post of the official Mizuiro Blood blog (5 days after the end of the main story) reveals that the UGSF (the protagonist force of Ace Combat series) launched a renewed attack on Earth, consisting of more than a million ships (the UIMS space force only had a little more than four thousand). Mizuiro herself, who became the supreme commander of the space force, managed to destroy one of the humans' ultimate weapons, the Planet Destroyer Cannon, only for them to reveal that they have 13 more. In the end, the entire UIMS space force was wiped out in a massive Curb-Stomp Battle, Mizuiro sacrificed herself protecting the evacuating civilians, most of the main casts died, and as the UGSF forces descended upon Earth, the after-school bell of the burned-out Blood Academy can be heard chiming.
- Crossover:
- Disaster Report 3: Fading City and Her Song collaborates with Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 to promote both works. Disaster Report 3 also depicts the evacuation center based on Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.
- Disaster Report 4 Summer Memories collaborates with Revisions and has collaboration-exclusive costumes and hairstyles based on Revisions' main characters for both male and female protagonists in Disaster Report 4.

"No matter how bad the heroes can get or how bad the situation is, we're sure we can overcome it and get our happy endings..."- Fire Emblem:
- Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones: Ephraim and Eirika face Lyon in chapter 17. While they aren't the Final Boss, they are possessed by him and are fought during the first half of the endgame.
- Fire Emblem: Awakening: The Pre-Final Boss Aversa is fought in chapter 22, but she escapes after the heroes defeat her.
- Fire Emblem Fates: This trope appears in every route of Fates.
- Birthright: King Garon, the main and final antagonist of the route, is fought in chapter 12. He's a very powerful Super Boss, so trying to attack him is a very bad idea.
- Conquest: The Big Bad High Prince Ryoma is fought in chapter 12. That said, he isn't the "real" Final Boss.
- Revelation: The last boss of the prologue turns out to be the Pre-Final Boss: King Sumeragi.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: American Idol ended up finding a far larger audience in the US than its original British incarnation — Pop Idol — did in the UK. Tellingly, while Pop Idol only ran for 2 seasons in the UK from 2002-2003, American Idol is still airing to this day. This likely boils down to America having a far larger idol and celebrity culture than the UK, on top of the show's premise (someone who starts off a nobody and becomes a massive superstar thanks to their efforts) happening to fit in nicely with the idea of The American Dream.
Trivia.Wolfwalkers:
- Word of Gay: Of the Shrug of God variety. While co-director Ross Stewart does not give a definitive answer on Robyn and Mebh's relationship, preferring to keep it open to interpretation, he has stated
on Twitter that nothing is stopping Robyn and Mebh from becoming "more than friends" down the line, implying that both are sapphic.
YMMV.Sonic Superstars:
- Fanon: Following the release of the Shadow skin, many fans like to interpret Classic as having become a Fanboy of Shadow following his encounter with him in Sonic Generations, with Shadow being flattered in response. Alternatively, some like to darkly joke that classic Sonic stole Shadow's skin, much to his understandable anger.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Some fans are disappointed that the Shadow costume ended up being a onesie for Sonic instead of Shadow proper, feeling that Sega wasted a good opportunity to feature him and showcase what a possible classic Shadow would look like. Some defend this by remarking that Shadow is still sealed up at Prison Island during the events of Superstars and that him appearing, even as a skin, would cause a major Continuity Snarl, while others point out that the costumes are not meant to be canon in the first place and exist on Rule of Fun — given the presence of the rabbit and LEGO skins.
- Spiritual Successor: The LEGO costumes mean this will be the closest we'll get to a sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog story in LEGO Dimensions.
YMMV.Outrun:
- First Installment Wins: Although OutRun has received several sequels of varying quality, the original arcade game remains the most well-known and beloved of the games, with the rest being far more obscure. It helps that the original arcade game remains the most widely available out of the games, with the rest of the series falling into Keep Circulating the Tapes status for various reasons.
- Once Original, Now Common: OutRun was incredibly revolutionary for arcade racing games for its time. However, in light of later arcade racers like Daytona USA, Ridge Racer, and Cruis'n, the simple Time Attack formula has become regarded as antiquated by modern standards, to the point that OutRun 2 was criticized by critics for maintaining the gameplay of the original. Nowadays, the only arcade racers that continue to use the OutRun formula is OutRun itself due to the Grandfather Clause or indie racers deliberately evoking OutRun.
- Sophomore Slump: While OutRun is an arcade classic and OutRunners and OutRun 2 are well-regarded Cult Classics, Turbo OutRun, the second arcade entry, is a Contested Sequel, that, while not hated, is considered to be the weak link of the series due to its gimmicky nature, Darker and Edgier tone, and the removal of the branching routes.
OutRun:
- Company Cross-References:
- Two of the billboards at the beginning of OutRunners feature Sonic the Hedgehog doing his iconic finger wag pose.
- Fittingly, given this is a driving game from SEGA, one of the game mechanics in OutRun 2 is the slipstream from Daytona USA.

I'm back for another weekend, although with President's Day, I might post for two days instead of one this time. Pleas give me just five minutes after you finish Tyler's edits so I can add a last few entries (never mind).
- In the fourth film, Elaine, Brittany, and the swim coach grab a Spear Carrier victim and try to pull him out of a croc’s maw as he is being eaten, despite the danger this puts them in and how they had a chance to duck and hide.
- Sleeps in the Nude: Rachael spends a lot of Atomic Lobster in a casual state of undress, beginning in her first scene, when she goes home to the wrong house (Serge and Coleman’s) while high on coke, sheds her shirt, shorts, and underwear and then climbs into Coleman’s bed to nod off.
- Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She is girlier than her best friend Jessica and wears multiple shirts that come to a stop above her stomach, although she spends more time in jackets due to the cold weather.
- The Belko Experiment: Mike spends most of the movie as The Heart of the office, arguing that people shouldn’t kill each other, but, while quite likable, is a Failure Hero who doesn't say or do much that hasn’t been said or done in similar movies, while a lot of fans are more drawn to secondary characters like Leandra (an Action Girl victim of sexual harassment and Milke’s crush and closest ally), Dany (the sweet newcomer who does well with Don't Ask, Just Run methods but tries to help the others from hiding), Silk Hiding Steel matronly secretary Peggy, Bud (the Mr. Fixit played by Michael Rooker), Erudite Stoner Marty and his Older Sidekick Chet (who respond to the chaos proactively but sometimes in an Entertainingly Wrong way), Evan (the security guard struggling to keep order), Gentle Giant Vince and his Actual Pacifist token Muslim secretary Raizya, several of whom could have been an effective protagonist.
- A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors: Team Mom Nancy and Kristen (an Action Girl who can bring people into dreams) are both powerfully portrayed and formidable characters with dark and troubled pasts, but the other Elm Street children at Westin Hills can inspire just as much investment with their own depth and suffering while being at least a bit more colorful (Sour Outside, Sad Inside Kincaid, recovering addict Taryn, paraplegic fantasy fanboy Will, logical Phillip, and Elective Mute Joey and his Translator Buddy Jennifer), especially those of them who get dream powers like Kristen.
- Naïve Newcomer bookworm Goreng is the protagonist of The Platform, Trimagasi (The Old Convict and a reluctant cannibal), Cute Mute Action Mom Miharu (who travels down the Platform looking for her daughter, Imoguri (a dying former administrator of the prison who voluntarily went there to atone), Hot-Blooded Baharat (who brought a rope into the Hole with him that he seeks to use to climb different levels while being dependent on the fickle goodwill of anyone above him), and various minor prisoners who brought in odd things like a surfboard and a bag of money all feel like they could have carried the film with a bit more novelty.
@ The Weapon Too Dreadful to Use
- Alternate Character Interpretation: The Inferred Holocaust ending can be a lot less grim depending on whether the Venusians are naive enough to let Earth know that they destroyed the weapon, or they did so in secret and use the nonexistent threat of it to keep the peace.
@ YMMV/Nightwing
- One-Scene Wonder: Detective Karen Patitz only appears for four pages of a single issue during the infamous Blockbuster/Tarantula arc, but her cute and humorous Shrinking Violet nervousness around Rohrbach and formidable detective skills made an impression on some fans.
@ The World's Expert (on Getting Killed)
- In The Hunger Games, the six Career tributes spend their teen years training to compete in the Gladiator Games. However, all of them are killed by untrained tributes like Roguish Poacher Katniss and Scary Black Man Thresh in the 74th Hunger Games, and three of them don't make it into the final eight in the 75th Hunger Games despite being arena veterans due to that year's twist (although Mags is eighty years old and still lasts a while before making a Heroic Sacrifice to save the others from poison fog). Given how there are a bare minimum of 19 living Victors from non-Career districts during the 75th Hunger Games, the Careers apparently lose the Games relatively often despite their training, and even when they do win, only one of them goes home while the other five die despite their training and preparation (something that much of the series' fanfiction explores in greater detail).
- Dr. Everett Jacobs from "Hunter, Prey" and Mary Kirkish from "Messages from Earth" are both introduced as people who have spent a while on the run from Clark’s goons because You Know Too Much, and remain in hiding from him at the end of their episodes.
Peruvian Ported
A Quechuan local working for Indy’s expedition in the opening scene.
- Blink And Youll Miss It Cameo: His actor has a background scene playing a character with a hat similar to his in a marketplace scene in the fourth film.
- Native Guide: He is a local hired for Indy’s archaeological expedition and helps clear the trail (although Indy is the one giving directions) and carry things.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here!: He doesn't betray Indy like Satipo and Barranca, but he does flee in terror the second he sees an idol marking the area as Hovitos territory (the fact that bats swarm out of it at him doesn't help).
- Spear Carrier: His only line is a scream, the camera only focuses on his face for a few seconds, and he is gone after a couple of minutes.
- Accidental Detectives: In several books, Ricky spends a lot of time with the narrator doing ordinary kid stuff like reflecting on his religious beliefs, going to summer camp, making home videos, playing baseball, and fishing (and often being accidentally thwarted by his little brother in all but the first of those), with some books taking several chapters to get to the mystery.
- Black Tide Rising: Much of the short story "Spectrum" follows an autistic living history demonstrator going through his normal routine (both on the job and at home) in blissful ignorance of the Zombie Apocalypse while vaguely wondering why the tourists have stopped coming. Fortunately for him, most of the zombies that do eventually arrive are Betas who end up imitating him to help take care of the park.
- Teen Power Inc.: The odd jobs the kids take, their hobbies, and their relationships with their families get a lot of attention in many of the books, with it sometimes taking most of the book before they ever realize there is a mystery going on (or at least that they might be able to solve it).
- Black Tide Rising: In the short story "Spectrum," the first (and fortunately benevolent) Technically Living Zombie Enoch meets is a girl wearing nothing but a white tank top that keeps getting wet as she drinks from a well, which Enoch tries not to pay attention to.
- Batman: Gordon of Gotham:
- In Gordon's Law, reports that at least one Dirty Cop was involved in a bloody heist leave Gordon isolated from his colleagues as he can't trust many of them, and even some he can trust (like Harvey Bullock) are hesitant to break the Blue Wall (although Bullock does apologize for this after seeing Gordon was right). Gordon is left investigating with the sole help of a nearby sheriff, an FBI agent, and (unbeknownst to him, as they're Working the Same Case rather than coordinating) Robbery Division Captain Danzien and Officer Bell (a mole he planted in the villains' group). And it turns out the FBI agent is crooked too.
- In Gordon of Gotham, many of the Chicago cops a young James Gordon deals with are corrupt or tease Jim for his work ethic and do-gooder instincts, but one beat cop gives him a tip while saying some of them think he's getting a bad rap, and a Reasonable Authority Figure superior helps him start over after he gets run out of Chicago.
- Attack On Darfur: The African Union troops are mostly unhappily bound by their orders not to defend villagers against the genocidal Janjaweed guereillas, but Captain Tobakme eventually decides to Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right! and tries to defend the village against overwhelming attackers.
- Cocaine Bear: Detective Bob is a determined and highly likable cop, which is less than can be said of his assistant Reba and Ranger Liz.
- Code of Silence: Downplayed. After Sergeant Cusack reports incompetent veteran cop Cragie for accidentally shooting a civilian, only his partner Dorata will lift a finger to help him with a major case for the next several scenes until Cragie's guilty partner shames the rest of the precinct into changing their minds.
- The French Connection: Simonson Da Chief and Mulderig's FBI partner Klien are the only cops who seem immune to Inter-Service Rivalry feuding and/or Police Brutality.
- The Hunting Party: The U.N. Peacekeepers are mostly fairly clueless and unhelpful throughout the reporters hunt for war criminal the Fox, but Boris does try to set them up with people who can help them better while hoping they succeed and seems to handle his other jobs well.
- Osmosis Jones: Osmosis Jones is a white blood cell cop who is good at both recognizing and battling threats. Many of his coworkers ... aren't (although the sentient cold medication pill Drix proves helpful).
- Red State: Deputy Pete and Agent Brooks are the only prominent members of the sheriff's department and ATF to never display any kind of ruthless agenda while investigating or besieging Cooper's church/cult/militia. Unfortunately, both are killed early on and things get worse and worse.
- Shanghai Knights: The London constabulary refuses to believe Lord Rathbone is evil and deter the protagonists at several points, but Inspector Doyle, while a bit too trusting, is quite friendly with Chon and Roy, helps them when he can, and has some useful Sherlock Scan tendencies.
- Sherlock Holmes (2009): Holmes tends to view Inspector Lestrade and his men are useless or threatening (depending on whether they are investigating the same case or investigating him), but Constable Clark is a smart officer who is friends with Holmes. This is ultimately downplayed in the climax, and that of the sequel, where Lestrade and his men do become surprisingly helpful.
- V for Vendetta: England has become a Police State full of cops who are either sadistic thugs or involved in invasive surveillance, but Inspector Finch and his assistant Dominic are smart detectives who find it harder and harder to ignore how rotten their society is.
- Black Tide Rising: In the short story "Up on the Roof," Ceyonne's father, Jerome, is the last surviving cop in East Chicago to remain on duty, still trying to help people besides his loved ones in the last few days where society is still in the Just Before the End stage.
- Fatherland: In the Bad Future where Hitler won, Xavier March is the only detective in Berlin who isn't a Nazi stooge through and through.
- In The Last Policeman Trilogy, Henry, Trish, and Culverson are grounded, professional, hard-working cops even in the face of an approaching asteroid strike that will kill most of humanity, while many of their coworkers are nervous wrecks or see no need to show much restraint and professionalism in the face of the end.
- Nero Wolfe: While the NYPD cops may butt heads with Wolfe a lot, they are competent and likable at the end of the day (save Commissioner Hombart, Lieutenant Rowcliff, and the odd guest character). However, the country cops in Westchester County tend to be more unpleasant and/or unreliable, save Chief of Detectives Ben Dykes, a quiet professional who occasionally displays keen thinking.
- Angel: Much of the LAPD is in the pocket of corrupt forces, prone to Rabid Cop methods, or suffering from Weirdness Censor, but Kate tries to be a Friend on the Force to Angel, which leads to her becoming a massive Knight in Sour Armor and eventually losing her job.
- The Chosen (TV series): Most members of the Roman garrisons enforce harsh rules and tax levies, but Gaius gradually develops an Odd Friendship with Jesus's ministry, and (as of early season 4) Atticus tends to observe them and their believers with interest rather than hostility.
- The Last Ship: Many cops enforcing nationwide quarantines against The Virus either fail in their jobs or are too ruthlessly Darwinian, but Thorwald and several of his Baltimore PD colleagues are efficient but humane in their duties before forming La Résistance when their boss starts killing uninfected survivors without useful skills to conserve resources.
- Silo: While the sheriff's department (which investigates regular crime and guards prisoners) comes across positively, Billings is the only notable member of the Judicial Branch (which handles riot suppression, other security, and maintaining the Enforced Technology Levels and ban on relics) uninvolved in the shadowy conspiracy.
- Slasher": In Ripper'', Detective Rijkers is a good man who is also good at his job while his boss, the main beat cop under him, and The Coroner are all corrupt to varying degrees.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Ask any fan who their favorite characters besides the four heroes (and maybe the blonde in the T-bird) are, and they will likely answer Give Geeks a Chance Debbie (who got the film’s only acting Oscar nomination), John’s rival drag racer Bob Falfa (a young Harrison Ford), helpful DJ Wolfman Jack, Affably Evil Greaser Delinquents leader Joe, and Tag Along Kid Carol (all of whom, with the exception of Jack, were brought back for the sequel).

Specifically, he and two henchmen are lured into an entire valley full of adders that quickly surround them. One of the henchmen quickly decides it's Better to Die than Be Killed, and the other two foxes vanish into "the rustling, many-coiled embrace of the serpents" before they have time to do anything.
- In The Long Patrol, several vermin scouts have to undergo both being submerged up to their necks in freezing water for a long time, and then (after being rescued and fighting against their Bad Boss), the survivors are killed in a Cement Shoes method.
- Kira from "The Turkish Prisoner Job" and Debra from "The Pyramid Job" are well-remembered villains of the week for being ruthless Bitch in Sheep's Clothing opponents who are also intelligent enough to give the team more trouble than usual. Debra's husband and co-villain Richard also has a small following for his Closet Geek and Beware the Silly Ones moments.
- Graceful Loser: Ramsey is calm and grudgingly admiring after being tricked into walking into a police trap.
- Even many people who passionately hate House Frey make exceptions for Perwyn and Olyvar (due to them being competent fighters who weren't onboard with the Red Wedding) and the pragmatic but sincerely courteous and dutiful Stevron.
- Zei, a Mole's Town prostitute who takes refuge at Castle Black in the third book and helps fight off the attackers with a crossbow, has a decent fandom for a character who is only in a couple of chapters.

A few quick last minute additions.
- In My Country: Among the many cops who confess to having committed brutal crimes for the apartheid, one stands out for asking for forgiveness from his victim rather than the court, with it also being stated that he refused orders to shoot a young boy once after watching the boy's mother be shot.
- The Love Bug: Most of the cops in Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo follow the lead of the impressive-looking but ineffective inspector, who only starts showing competence when he is revealed as the Big Bad and is working against the heroes, but his assistant Fontenoy has many keen insights and Reasonable Authority Figure moments that help the heroes. As a bonus, since Fontenoy hero-worships the inspector, he keeps beaming with pride every time he does something that is the correct decision but leaves the inspector in a fix due to his own failures.
- The Books of Ember: Many of the guards are thugs for the mayor, but Barton Snode seems dim but honest and excited about his job (albeit only in the book).
- In 61 Hours, Police Chief Holland and his number two Peterson are skilled cops who work well with Reacher, and while many other cops have moments of professionalism and skill, every last one of them gets lured away from guarding an important witness by what Reacher views as an obvious distraction. And then there's the suspicion that a Dirty Cop is on the force, although that turns out to be a Forced into Evil but still willing to kill Holland, leaving Peterson as the token good, or at least above average, cop on the force.
- In Shadow of Victory, among the many dictatorial regimes propped up by the Solarian League, Filip Malý from the Chotěbořian Public Safety Force is the bodyguard of a reform candidate and secretly part of La Résistance, along with his bodyguard charge.
- Star Wars Legends
- In the second book of the The Han Solo Adventures, Fiolla is a rare honest Corporate Sector cop who is trying to stop a slave ring.
- In the X-Wing Series, Corran Horn's Backstory is that he was a cop who was forced to go on the run with three colleagues due to their insistence in pursuing pirates and other criminals instead of the Rebel Alliance.
- Extremely Short Timespan: Most books take place over a week, weeks, or even months, but The Rubber Band takes place over four days, with the first day being consigned solely to the first chapter.

- Lower-Class Lout: Downplayed with the guy who got Daphne to run away with him, as he's no Asshole Victim, but is a dirty-looking guy who makes her feel special by declaring that, in addition to the physical chemistry between them, he appreciates her for being the smartest woman he knows by virtue of being the first person he's met with a G.E.D.

- Surprisingly brave and dignified Phantom Thief Shadow is more of the most popular of Cluny's horde in the first book despite only appearing in a few chapters.
- The Leader: As the longest-lasting cast member, The Ace at basketball and someone Closer to Earth, Julie gets a lot of deference from her teammates.
- Country Mouse: Earl comes from a more rural background than his friends, and it shows in his mannerisms.
- Big Fun: Teddy's girth, friendliness and sense of fun are equally large.
- Naïve Everygirl: Amy is very peppy and helpful, but not always good at understanding how difficult some people have it.
- Genki Girl: Kristy is an excitable, sweet person who loves laughing and can move past a lot of misfortune.
- Hang Time: Each of the three head cheerleaders in the show is a good friend of the basketball players and has many positive traits. Mary Beth is a Lovable Alpha Bitch who mellows out and is a Plucky Comic Relief character and sometimes Extracurricular Enthusiast who eventually takes over managing the basketball team, Amy is a Naïve Everygirl, and Kristy is The Cutie and a Butt-Monkey.

- Phantom Thief Shadow is among the most popular of Cluny's horde in the first book but is dead less than a quarter of the way through the book.
- Magnificent Bastard Rasconza from Pearls of Lutra takes a bit to appear and become The Starscream, and once he does, despite opposing the same Big Bad as the protagonists (whose acquaintance with Romsca might have made them more amenable to an Enemy Mine alliance with a fox), never has a single scene interacting with most of those protagonists, whether positively or negatively.
- Prince Bladd from Triss is an oafish evil prince who nonetheless isn't too invested in going after the heroes, is the grandson of an Ensemble Dark Horse, and develops an interesting Villainous Friendship with the popular Freebooters, but it ultimately leads nowhere, and he suffers a forgettable death that keeps him from rising above mediocrity.
- Lantur the Marlfox's status as a Daddy's Girl who never leaves their island to raid like the others could have been used to make her a morally grey figure and/or Enemy Mine ally of Redwall if her desire to kill her family and usurp the throne was to avenge how Silith killed her mate and none of the other siblings stopped being her enforcers after the death of their father. However, the text indicates that Lantur's actions are driven by simple ambition, and she never meets any of the heroes.
- Child 44: Ministry of State Security official Demidov risks his career and life by investigating a series of child murders that his government won't acknowledge due to how it would taint their view of a Utopian communist society.
- Ladyhawke: Since the disgrace and exile of Captain Ettiene Navarre, the Bishop of Aquila's guards have become quite nasty in their enforcement of the laws. When Navarre returns, one of the guards who previously served under him won’t fight him and respectfully addresses Navarre as if he is still Captain. This promptly gets the guard killed by Marquet the new Captain , after which the other guards, even the ones who knew Navarre, oppose him more sternly for the rest of the film, until the climax, when a large group of their remaining number let him pass for his confrontation with Marquet and the Bishop.
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End: While the British Navy is technically a military organization, it spends the film engaged in increasingly brutal anti-piracy operations on behalf of corporate interests, with Tragic Villain Northington, Punch-Clock Villain Groves, and Those Two Guys Murtogg and Mullroy being the only ones who the narrative portrays as anything besides uncomplicated murderers.
- Vigilante: The cops, while burdened by Obstructive Vigilantism, are helpless at protecting people from the many criminals of the neighborhood, with one of Nick's vigilantes being a cop who was fired for actually taking risks to try and bust criminals. Officer Gibbons stands out as a decent cop who does his job on the streets in an effective way while also trying to talk the vigilantes down. In a sad twist, he is murdered by hoodlums who think Rabid Cops committed the vigilante killings.
- The Expanse: Miller, his boss, and most of the other Belter cops are corrupt cynics whom Miller's Naïve Newcomer partner Havelock eventually calls out for representing the worst aspects of policing, although Miller gradually gets a Heel–Face Turn.
- Batman: No Man's Land has a regional case. Gotham City being hit by an earthquake and then sealed off from the rest of the country has caused many ordinary citizens to become cannibals or delusional bandits and killers (including one man who sees himself as a mercy killer due to the Crapsack World). On a more benign note, a former building inspector still wanders the streets, making notes about the code violations of devastated buildings and talking to a hallucination of his assistant.
- Anna and the Apocalypse:
- Nick goes from a Jerk Jock to a serious Blood Knight after he realizes how good he is at killing zombies.
- Within two days of the zombies showing up, Dean Bitterman Mr. Savage is feeding people to hordes of zombies while dancing around and singing Villain Songs about how awful humanity is.
- Daylight's End: The police station survivors encounter a woman who had spent a while surviving the zombie/vampire creatures alone and talking to a doll as if it were her child.
- Miracle Mile: As nuclear missiles head toward L.A., skeptical yuppie Gerstead devolves into a raving, corpse-molesting fatalist.
- Several of the first survivors Ishmael meets after the pandemic in Earth Abides have erratic hints to their personalities (trying to provoke a fight, running away from him on sight, and purposelessly hoarding things, respectively) and can barely interact with him.
- The Killing Star: After the alien genocide of the solar system, not all of the survivors take things well.
- One of the two survivors on Earth itself (both of whom were exploring the wreck of the Titanic in a submarine) ends up losing himself in the virtual reality simulations of the ship and its people.
- The commander of a surviving mining spaceship on Neptune takes his ship on a suicidal plummet into the world's ocean after failing to cope with the situation.
- Station Eleven: The Prophet Used to Be a Sweet Kid but, twenty years after the virus that killed so much of humanity, leads a pseudo-religious cult that believes in repopulating the Earth through child brides and making tombstones for still living people who desert their cause.
- Jeremiah: Given how The Virus in the Backstory spared everyone who hadn't reached puberty and (seemingly) no one who had, plenty of seemingly normal kids grew up with their share of eccentricities stemming from the trauma. Extreme cases include John (who is convinced he is his old favorite superhero, Captain Iron), Godhood Seeker Michael, Bunny-Ears Lawyer Conspiracy Theorist Wylie, self-flagellating Mysterious Protector Ezekiel (who has the added trauma of knowing that his father created the virus), and a Cargo Cult obsessed with telephones. Subverted with Mr. Smith, as, while he believes that God is talking to him, it's strongly implied that God actually is.
- In the Hogan's Heroes fanfic Shades of Family
, junior Gestapo officer Damien Kohl (an Ax-Crazy Jerkass of the highest order even compared to other fanatical Nazis) is framed for various crimes to discredit his investigation into the anti-Nazi underground. He spends much of the story continuing to somehow elude both the most organized, covert, and accomplished resistance group in the country and the Gestapo as both launch major manhunts for him while he vainly seeks to prove his (correct) theory that one of his superiors is a traitor with no assets besides some skills at detecting information and disguising himself, two secret accomplices, and being Made of Iron.
- Bait the Dog: He is initially more polite and curious, at least compared to his siblings, during his first meeting with the woodlanders, after they offer him and Predak some soup, but he quickly turns to threatening them after being ordered to leave and is highly aggressive in fighting them afterward.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: She doesn't hesitate to voice her contempt for Queen Silith and doesn't get along well with Mokkan, who she is paired with, even drawing an axe on him after he points out that the Marlfox siblings will likely all turn on each other sooner or later.
- Mors Umber only has one short scene so far and takes until the fifth book to get a major role, but he has a strong fanbase for being a one-eyed, bearskin-clad Colonel Badass and Combat Pragmatist.
- Cley Cerwyn only physically appears a couple of times, but has many fans due to his competent A Child Shall Lead Them moments and being one of Bran's closest friends among the Northern nobility.
- Robett Glover has built up a fanbase as The Determinator and eventual Number Two of Wyman Manderly. His Adaptational Villainy in the show has driven many fans who prefer the books to cling more to his literary counterpart as part of their way of demonstrating their preference.
- Fifth book Mauve Shirt Rowan the spearwife has a decent fanbase for being an Action Girl who Epileptic Trees think may be the long-lost daughter of Mors Umber.
- Deadpan Snarker climbing master Stonesnake and Dalbridge (a Master Archer and former squire to a Targaryen king), two of the men who travel with Jon and Qhorin beyond the Wall, are other highly popular rangers.
- We Hardly Knew Ye Bruiser with a Soft Center Small Paul has a good fanbase for saving Sam after the Fight at the Fist.
- Scarily Competent Tracker, Nice Guy, and Old Soldier Dywen is a big fan favorite among the veteran Rangers.
- The Mad Huntsman is one of the least prominent members of the Brotherhood without Banners, but he has his fans for being a Terror Hero Fluffy Tamer who briefly protects an important village from the Lannisters on his own after the death of its knight.
- Raymun Darry doesn't make it to the second book, but gets a bit of love for being the last notable Targaryen loyalist in the Riverlands while still caring about protecting his smallfolk.
- Harras Harlaw only has a few chapters of background appearances but has his fandom for being a Seven-believer who beats seven consecutive enemy champions and treats his enemies fairly well.
- Hagen's daughter may not even get a name, but is easily the best-liked of Asha's reavers for being an Ethical Slut Action Girl who flirts with Asha's unwanted suitor Tristifer (providing shippers Pair the Spares fodder).
- Lord Gylbert Farwynd only appears during the kingsmoot scene, but is a big fan favorite among the Ironborn lords due to how many fans suspect his Cloudcuckoolander Screw This, I'm Outta Here! plan may be Crazy Sane or Metaphorically True in a way that the Ironborn should really pay attention to.
- Ambiguously Evil Genius Bruiser Archmaester Marwyn has only physically appeared in one scene so far, but the way he spends that scene being a refreshingly unconventional maester who educates the fandom on a mysterious conspiracy has made him the source of fan fascination for over a decade, with no sign of it slowing down.
- The amount of attention Harys Swyft has gotten for being a rare character to physically appear in all five books (albeit mostly in minor roles) has led to the consensus that his Butt-Monkey moments and occasional Smarter Than They Look feats make him a fun character.
- The long-dead Lord Toland from The Conquest has his fans for the way he outwitted Aegon and changed his coat-of-arms to mock how he outwitted Aegon and honor the Heroic Sacrifice of the servant who helped him escape.
- The Vale
- Mya Stone is pretty popular for being a Heroic Bastard of Robert with some neat skills and surrogate Cool Big Sis moments with Sansa.
- Genius Bruiser Old Soldier "Bronze" Yohn Royce (who is deeply unhappy about being kept from fighting the Lannisters in the War of the Five Kings) probably has twice as big a fandom as any other two Vale lords combined. His Knight in Shining Armor second son, Robar, also has a pretty good fanbase despite dying after just a couple of speaking scenes.
- Tyrion's main allies from the Mountain Clans (Boisterous Bruiser Shagga, The Dreaded Timett, and ear-collecting Lady of War Chella) haven't been seen since book 2. Still, for many fans, they are among his best-liked allies after Bronn.
- Ambiguously Evil Chessmaster Sidekick and potential sincerely Good Is Not Nice Internal Reformist Skahaz is one of the only new additions to the Meereenese plot line in the fifth book that many readers find compelling and fun to read about.
- Barristan's squire, the Red Lamb, is barely more than a Spear Carrier so far but has a lot of fans for his training potential and Rage Against the Heavens speech.
