Something I want to add to What Are Records?...

  • Arthur:
    • Played straight in "Francine Frensky, Superstar". (Note: This was one of the earliest episodes of the show, the first season of a program that would run into the 2020s.) The kids shot blank looks at Mr. Ratburn when he talked about Thomas Edison's invention, the phonograph, and prompted the following exchange:
Ratburn: It was before CDs. It played music, with a needle.
      Binky: Is that a joke?
    • This may explain why, in the later episode "Popular Girls" (Season 3), during a spring break day camp, one group of Arthur's classmates brings in vintage/antique things, and when Jenna demonstrates a record player, the kids all "Oooh" in awe.
    • In "Unfinished" (Season 10), Arthur is looking for a replacement copy of the long out-of-print book 93 Million Miles in a Balloon. When his mother does an online search for anything relating to the book, she finds out a movie adaptation was produced and can be rented on 16 millimeter. Arthur asks "What's 16 millimeter?" The scene then changes to Arthur and his friends about to watch the movie on a noisy old 16mm film projector...
Dad: It's been 25 years since I've used this old 16mm projector. Hope it makes it!

Trivia.Hilda

  • Show Accuracy/Toy Accuracy: While Gund's Hilda plush is pretty faithful, it does make some notable changes from how she looks in the comics and show, the most significant difference being that her eyes are almost completely different, with her pupils being bigger, unlike the smaller Black Dot Pupils she has in the comics and show proper.

YMMV.Hilda

  • Never Live It Down: While Frida has since apologized and restored her friendship with Hilda and David, fans haven't truly forgiven her for her actions near the end of S1, where she torpedoes her friendship with both of them, insults and tells Hilda she should've never moved to Trolberg, and temporarily joins the Merra, despite them having tormented David in the past (something that he calls her out on). It doesn't help that many found her apology to be weak, on top of Frida being divisive in general.

  • Sacred Cow: The show is widely regarded as one of the best animated cartoons of the late 2010s and early 2020s thanks to its strong writing, gorgeous art style, and well-developed characters. Naturally, any major hate and criticism towards the show will be met with backlash from fans.

Outlived the Source Material:

  • The first two seasons of Hilda contained a mix of adapted stories from the graphic novels and original stories made for the show. However, despite the graphic novel series having ended in 2019 with Hilda and the Mountain Troll — which the show adapted as a movie in 2021 — the show is planned to get a third and final season following the events of Mountain King consisting entirely of original stories.

For adventure time antagonists and enemies The Lich

  • Multiple-Choice Past: The Lich is given various and often contradictory possible origins throughout the show. These include:
    • It's implied he's a mutated monster born from the nuclear fallout from the Mushroom bomb going off that ended the world. Which is seemingly backed up by the fact his Farmworld version is created the same way.

    • It's also implied that he's the reincarnation of a Catalyst Comet which came to Earth and wiped out the elementals due to its green color, horns and desire to end all life. Finn as the reincarnation of the blue Catalyst comet is destined to be his eternal enemy throughout their reincarnations.

    • It's also implied that he's actually an eldritch being and creation of the god of chaos GOLB as he states that he's the "Last Scholar of GOLB" and shows visions of these creations.

Characters / A Song Of Ice And Fire House Baratheon of King's Landing: Joffrey Baratheon: Pet the Dog: With all of his horrendous attitude problems and many acts of cruelty towards everyone with less social standing and political power than him, Joffrey is never explicitly shown to be cruel to his younger sister Myrcella (Tommen is a different story). In fact, she openly sass and stands up against him to protect their youngest brother Tommen.

YMMV / A Song Of Ice And Fire: Rooting for the Empire: Lady Stoneheart aka Catelyn Stark is supposed to be a horrific reminder what unchecked vengeance can do to a person. However, many of the audience openly root for her to succeed not only because her motivation is extremely sympathetic and she was a major POV character Catelyn for the first three books; her enemies the Boltons, Freys and Lannisters are all such Smug Snake and has been escaping their evil deeds against the protagonists until then due to their immense political power.

Pokémon S10E3 "When Pokémon Worlds Collide!":

  • Villain Takes an Interest: In this scenario, Ash catches the attention of his new Sinnoh rival, Paul. At first, Paul is not impressed with Ash because he only has two Pokemon with him. However, when Ash talks about his missing Pikachu and how it knows Volt Tackle, and Paul sees the aftermath of Team Rocket's failed attempt to capture Pikachu, he becomes interested. Paul then follows and waits for Ash so they can have a fair 3v3 battle.

Pokemon S 11 E 34 Arriving In Style:

  • Call-Back: Dawn remembers Zoey's advice to ensure the Pokémon are the center of attention as she plans the perfect show and outfits for the Hearthome Collection.
  • Ethereal White Dress: Dawn designs simple snow-white dresses paired with ice-blue necklaces for herself and Buneary. The outfits complement Buneary's performance as a show spirit on a white mountain.
  • Ice Person: Dawn's act for Bunery in the Hearthome Collection is
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Dawn designs her and Buneary's outfits as simple snow-white dresses paired with matching ice-blue necklaces, all inspired by Bunery's performance as a show spirit on a white mountain. She took Zoey and Hermione's advice to ensure that Bunery was the main attraction in the act, ultimately helping Dawn win first place in the Hearthome Collection.

Pokémon: The Series — Dawn:

  • Simple, yet Awesome: Dawn develops the skill of presenting her Contest performances straightforwardly and authentically, with an unwavering focus on highlighting the unique talents of her beloved Pokemon companions.

Super RWBY Sisters

  • What Could Have Been: Originally, The Rising of the Shield Hero series was going to appear in Super RWBY Sisters due to the author not feeling comfortable bringing in an Isekai anime through the typical portal method. Several years later, one of the author's friends suggested a solution where The Rising of the Shield Hero would instead appear as AU versions living in the world of Dragon Quest XI. The author decided to go with his friend's idea and incorporated the series into Super RWBY Sisters.

Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The power of Weiss's Fierce Deity form has a risk factor to it. If the Fierce Deity should ever get influenced by both stress and negativity, Weiss will instead transform into a feral version of that transformation. In this form, Weiss acts more aggressive and brutal. She also uses fire and darkness powers instead. As pointed out by Calyrex, should Weiss's anger not subside, she will be unable to tell friends or foes apart when transformed.

Sorry for another long one. I thought getting through my backlist would make all of my posts shorter, but it’s been a trope worthy week, and it’s harder to keep track of the word count with stuff that wasn’t already on word. I will try to do better.

@ Kim Possible

Warmonga gets a lot of love for her Amazonian Beauty appearance and fighting skills and for being the right combination of Laughably Evil and a Knight of Cerebus.

@ Social Circle Filler Kim Possible: Kim and Bonnie's many fellow cheerleaders get along with both girls but rarely do anything more notable than practice cheering with them (as a reminder of the Wake Up, Go to School, Save the World premise of the show) or occasionally show up at other school functions or local restaurants.

@ Iconic Sequel Character

  • John Wick: The Bowery King and Cassian don't appear until the first sequel, while Sofia shows up in the third film, and Caine and Mr. Nobody debut in the fourth movie.
  • Niobe first appears in The Matrix Reloaded after being absent from the first film.

@ Harry Potter - Slytherin

The coward part comes from how her arm is shaking as she points at Harry, which suggests that she is more afraid of Voldemort than loyal to him (although the two feelings aren't mutually exclusive among Death Eaters) after seeing him at the peak of his power for the past year.

@ The King Nobody Wanted

@ The King Nobody Wanted

  • Stannis makes Davos Master of Ships and lord of Driftmark and grants him the right to decline the former honor if he feels unworthy of it (he ultimately doesn't) but not the latter one.
  • Tytos is constantly A Father to His Men, even winning over a Commander Contrarian and helping him deal with some PTSD.
  • The many friendships throughout Viserys' court often provide good moments of levity, with implied Blackfyre infiltrators Uthera and Falena having some sweet and hopefully long-lasting Becoming the Mask moments with both the other kids and Oswell.
  • Alliser Thorne meeting his extended family for the first time in years brings out his tender side as well as theirs.
  • Benjen Stark and Jonelle Cerwyn (an Old Maid in canon) start up a relationship as Benjen begins to accept that he has a role in the North besides joining the Watch. The way he and the other nobles at Winterfell show Jamie sympathy and understanding also helps him out a lot.
  • The burgeoning Interclass Friendship between Davos and Lord Chelsted (and their wives) does a lot to make Davos and the readers feel light-hearted.
  • Gerion engaging in Platonic Prostitution and finding someone to talk to about his issues with Tywin.

@ Children of the Red King

  • While in the last two books the Red Knight might get one fight per book here, he is a constant and proactive presence throughout the story, defeating both a hovering magical sword and a pyrokinetic Mook in the first 1/3rd of the book.
  • One of the biggest villainous moments of awesome in the series might be Lord Grimwald showing Manfred the Sea Globe, an enchanted object that Grimwald and his ancestors have used to monitor and (when they feel like it) control every ocean on Earth for nearly a millennia.

@ Combo Platter Powers

  • The original WWII-era Miss America could enlarge objects, turn objects like clothes into living things, move things with her mind, run super fast, teleport, and conduct psychic readings, Depending on the Writer. Regrettably, most of these abilities haven't been mentioned since the character became associated with the Freedom Fighters (DC Comics).
  • While most Star Wars Jedi or Sith are gifted with telekinesis, the ability to sense danger, enhanced reflexes, Force Persuasion, and the occasional additional ability like Force lightning, the Dark Woman from Star Wars: Republic and Star Wars Tales can also turn invisible, walk through walls, teleport, heal people with the Force, and control plants.
  • While most of the eponymous Children of the Red King only have one power, a few who have gifted ancestors on both sides of their family have multiple abilities (Charlie Bone can enter photographs and eventually learns to use an ancestral magic wand, the hypnotist Manfred Bloor develops pyrokinesis, one-shot villain Yolanda Yewbeam is a hypnotist and shape-shifter, etc.).
  • The DC Universe prose novel JLA Exterminators features scores of citizens developing superpowers that signify their possession by an alien parasite, and many just have one power, but a few have odd combinations of abilities.
    • An Amateur Sleuth named Bryan Francis has the ability to know people's locations by touching their inanimate possessions and is Nigh-Invulnerable (except against his own hand).
    • An unnamed teenage girl who helps Wonder Woman and Aquaman fight two of the more villainous new metas can teleport and has enhanced strength.
  • The Secret Circle: Unlike the TV show, each of the twelve young witches has a different elemental power in addition to scrying and spell-casting abilities, while Cassie also has powers of conjuration and premonition, Adam is telepathic, and Faye can talk to cats.

@ Silo

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Marnes is deeply reluctant to support Juliette becoming sheriff but gradually comes to trust her, but was her biggest advocate from the start in the book.

    Sims

Robert Sims

Played by: Common
An intimidating member of Judicial who knows many hidden secrets about the Silo due to his father and mentor (a literal Almighty Janitor), and will do whatever it takes to preserve vital order.
  • Adaptational Job Change: He is the head of security for IT in the books but works for the Canon Foreigner Judicial department in the show, although in both versions Bernard is his real boss.
  • Adaptational Villainy: He's just in charge of protecting Bernard in the books and is a fairly decent guy, but his show counterpart, while arguably still decent, is a swaggering goon who knows some of the darker secrets of the Silo.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Antagonistic as he is, he is a loving father who comforts his son when the boy is afraid of the dark.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He is no friend of Juliette and her allies and has a firm baritone.
  • Mouth of Sauron: He speaks with the other leaders of the Silo to let them know how his boss, the reclusive Judge Meadows, feels about things. Actually, Meadows is a frightened Puppet King, and Sims is actually speaking on behalf of Almighty Janitor Bernard.

@ Lost Flwet Alliance Fleet

    Corporal Maksomovic
A soldier serving in a security role on the captured Kick super battleship in Guardian.
  • Bomb Disposal: He is assigned to disarm a Syndic bomb while being given instructions by the engineers and has a miserable yet resigned countenance throughout the experience. After actually disarming the bomb, he has a Self-Serving Memory reaction, seeming to think he remained cool throughout the experience.
  • You Are in Command Now: He briefly takes command of his squad after his sergeant is shot.

Thank you. Here are two examples I'm going to add in two proposed Tropes from the TLP:

Saw Blades of Death Films — Animated

  • Chicken Run: The Tweedys' new chicken pie machine has saw blades that can ground any chicken into meat. Ginger and Rocky had dodged them after they got inside.

Dramatic TV Shut Off Comic Books

  • Breakdowns: Art and his mom loved watching The Dick Van Dyke Show, until Art's dad had received a phone call that a cousin was hit by a car and died. Art's dad told him to turn off the TV to tell them the sad news. Art and his mom never watched Dick Van Dyke ever again after that.

For Live-Action TV:

  • Abbott Elementary: Barbara divorcing Gerald is a very popular plot in fanfics. This often so she can start a relationship with Melissa instead.

For Live-Action TV:

  • Abbott Elementary: Melissa/Barbara/Gerald is a very popular threesome pairing in the fandom, especially by those who don't like the idea of applying Die for Our Ship to Gerald. Barbara and Melissa are best friends and the Fan-Preferred Couple, while Barbara and Gerald are Happily Married. It helps that Melissa and Gerald seem like close friends and get along well.

YMMV.Hilda:

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Believe it or not, the tiny houses the elves live in do actually exist in Iceland. They're known as álfhól and are built by Icelanders for a mythological tiny elf race known as the huldufòlknote  and are all over the country. Granted, it's highly unlikely the huldufòlk themselves actually exist, despite many Icelanders believing in themnote  but at least their houses do.

  • Cult Classic: The graphic novels are highly regarded by many comic readers (and even big names like Guillermo del Toro) and have been nominated for numerous awards, but despite its critical success, the series is not terribly well known. Even after Hilda became more popular thanks to the show and the Newbie Boom it caused, the graphic novels remain firmly in this status thanks to Adaptation Displacement, with many unaware that the show was based on graphic novels at all.

Characters.Hilda

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Frida can be a perfectionist and selfish Control Freak at times and she does not take it well whenever her perfectionism is called into question by others (to the point of getting violent about it), but she is still a compassionate person who deeply cares about her friends at the end of the day.
