Totan's charge was ended by two things. First, the familiar yelp of Masuka, begging for help. Totan turned immediately, but before he could even start heading back the second happened. There was a high pitched bird cry, and suddenly everything disappeared in a white veil.

Immediately Totan fell as the cold distracted Yaya from holding him up. It felt like an eternity as Totan battled through the blizzard, and the froslass, but they seemed just as happy to wait for him to freeze. But following Yaya's guidance, before he found Masuka.

He fed the little dog an oran berry and returned Masuka to his apricorn.

Totan began slugging his way back to the main group, he'd completely screwed up everything.

Nox had grown another set of wings, as well as much larger eyes and a much larger mouth. Unfortunately, a weakness to ice was a weakness to ice. Nox was overtaken, and Haruna had not even seen the event occur.

Cardinal as well was beginning to lose strength, and also collapsed onto the ground.

The defensive line was doing it's best to handle the Froslass that made it past the attacking line. The Raticate put up a surprising fight against them with their biting attacks.

...Dark energy. They're charging their teeth with dark energy. If I could do the same- Yashi was snapped out of his thoughts when one of the Ice Ghosts blew an Ominous Wind through the nonelemental beasts at him, bowling him over.

"Damn you!" he got back up and drove his spear through the snow demon causing it to wince in pain. The two combatants shared a look of surprise as they looked down to see Yashi's spear burning with a lavender energy.

{...And here we see my character's discovery of his spellblade ability}

It's a plot! ...Quite a well written one too.

TWW: I suppose this is it for today.
A: Sir, I can still turn this around!
TWW: We lost, it is time to leave before our losses overtake our gains.
A: ...Yes sir.

The robed man stood up and bowed. He looked up at Jem, "It is nice to meet you, but I must leave, may we meet again." The man straightened up and lifted from the ground with no apparent aid. Articuno followed his lead, and they both escaped from the battle field.

The winds of the blizzard only got stronger, and hail began falling from the sky. Surrounding trees began to be torn apart by the winds, and some of the lighter monsters were picked up. Where as before only a few froslass at a time attacked, now all of the youkai attacked.

Osamu's shield failed, and he was pummelled by hail. Froslass flocked toward Osamu and Kojiro, taking advantage of Osamu's missing defences. One of the closest monsters summoned a beam of ice, which pierced Osamu through his right shoulder. He fell to the ground...

Himei could not hold of the froslass around Haruna after Cardinal and Nox were defeated. It had become apparent to her that she would not escape this battle alive if she continued on the offensive. She crossed her arms over her chest and willed for her metallic skin to become harder.

The guardsmen had slightly more luck with their defensive line, but the hail and winds were making the battle unbearable, and it appeared that many of their fellow trainers had been defeated.

...Vines shot from the ground and formed a shield around Osamu's body, while other vines shot from the ground and attacked Froslass around Osamu and Kojiro.

Icy attacks assaulted Yamashita's body, but he had suffered worse in battle. However, it was fortunate that the shedinja was safe in the apricorn.

The wind and ice made it hard to see clearly. The froslass became harder to hit, and the samurai's reduced mobility made him an easier target. He was still standing, and counted at least one youkai downed by his sword during the blizzard, but they seemed to be surrounding him in greater numbers.

He noticed vines appear nearby. Whatever this was, it needed to be very powerful to overcome a disadvantage both of number and type.

Jem watched him rise into the air, putting away his note pad, and unslinging his bat. Zaknafein ran up behind him and without pause the two of them performed a well-practiced move.

Zaknafein jumped unto Jem's outstretched weapon and Jem launched him into the air like a spring-loaded diving board. The zangooze flew partly from this and partly from the power of his technique, aimed for the chest of the legendary bird.

Haruna blinked a bit at staff guy's -staff girl's- reaction. She was suddenly very aware that she could not see Cardinal or Nox. Looking around frantically, they seemed to be nowhere in sight, and this gravely scared her. The snow creatures had them surrounded. Her knives were no use. She was out of poison. She had only her needles left, and she doubted they would be much use, if she didn't even know their soft spots, if they would work at all.

Articuno was hit by the tackle and briefly stunned. When she came to her senses moments later she noticed that she was dangerously close to the treetops. She began trying to save herself and remove the [[Zangoose anomaly] from her chest, but she could not fight and fly simultaneously, and with each passing second she came closer to crashing.

The White Wind looked back at the two struggling. Without second thought he froze them both in a block of ice, and continued with his escape.

Osamu could barely move, he wasn't sure what was happening... he couldn't feel his right arm... There were tendrils... or roots... around him. Oh Euryalos must of saved him, good, he could use more rest.

With the help of the vines the guardsman managed to fight back the froslass who were nearest to the defensive line, and had begun to apply various remedies to their companions to soothe the effects of frostbite.

The hail continued to fall, but the froslass had fallen back due to Euryalos's support. Himei didn't mind the hail particularly, and she took to fighting back the froslass from the injured Cardinal and Nox.

Jem's lip twitched as he watched Zaknafein fall frozen. For a moment, he considered calling Samus to float him up to do battle with the White Wind. Several things made him think better of it though.

"FALL BACK! The White Wind is retreating, Articuno is defeated! We need to regroup to take care of these frosslass!" He gestured for Samus to come near, "Pick up Zak and Articuno, she is under my custody now. Keep her mind addled when she begins to thaw. Ice won't keep this one down for very long."

Haruna was distracted from her poor attempts at defending herselves with the needles (which, unlike the knives, seemed to be working phenomenally well -for a needle-. Must be the material or something...) when she saw that the great blue monster had started to flee. What ever that creature was, it scared her. It didn't seem like the type of creature one would meet alongside a road.

Suddenly, it occurred to Haruna that she had not seen Cardinal or Nox in quite a while, since she had been so preoccupied with what was directly near her. She craned her head, trying to find the two of them.

Then she heard someone yell out to fall back. Haruna tried to ignore the general order, in order to find her two partners. Cardinal and Nox first, personal safety second. Especially since her partners had done the same for her.

A retreat?

Yamashita hesitated. He supposed that the captain didn't technically have authority over him.

He could tell this wasn't going to end well, but he didn't want a threat such as the White Wind getting away so easily.

He ran up to the captain.

"Here." he said, giving him the shedinja-filled apricorn.

Yamashita tracked the wizard, taking care not to let him far beyond his line of sight, and avoiding his.

Jem didn't stop the man. Mostly because he figured he knew what he was doing and saluted him as he took off. He pocketed the apricorn and followed Samus as she carried the frozen Zaknafein and Articuno. He watched her back as Potina and Rina covered her flank.

Osamu realised that the vines had stopped covering him, he got up slowly. It appeared Euryalos was dealing with the froslass easily enough, well... not exactly easy but Euryalos was accustomed to difficult tasks. And he had help.

Osamu winced, his shoulder hurt, probably because he had not removed the icicle yet. He discarded his spear, since it would be of no use with only one functioning arm, and he used his working hand to break the shard of ice to only a small chunk that filled the wound. Most likely he would not be able to use that arm for awhile (if ever), so he removed his belt from his robes and formed a makeshift sling with it.

Now he only had to worry about Himei, Articuno, and the other trainers. Himei could take care of herself for awhile, and the other trainers seemed to be worn out but capable of retreating at the least. So, Articuno it was.

Articuno and Zak were thawing quite slowly. The hail and cool night air were obviously the problem... Osamu worried about the two, he had wanted to try to talk to this Articuno, and congratulate the Zangoose for his efforts. Could the ice kill them? ... Probably. I should try to take care of that. He glanced at Samus, Jem should be able to handle it, he supposed.

The White Wind continued quickly across the countryside, flying gave him a major advantage in speed. It would be hard for Yamashita to catch up, but The White Wind has not looked back yet. He wasn't exactly worried about followers.

((Hm, carrying an articuno and a zangoose frozen in a block of ice would be a bit hard, eh?))

Yamashita was weary from battle, but adrenaline and determination kept him going. He scanned the night sky for the wizard. He couldn't be sure he saw him properly, but considering he was escaping, he ought to be going in the right general direction.

Once away from the battle field he sheathed his blades and sprinted. He knew he wouldn't be able to keep this up for long, but losing him now would present a greater difficulty later.

((That's what psychic powers are for, but also why she's going slow))

Jem nodded to Osamu's look, "Beasts are a great deal more durable then humans. What would result in death for us may only be a chill to them. With all the power they fling about, those incapable of surviving it never live to breed."

Haruna looked around desperately. Trying to avoid any would be enemies, for she was unsure how many of those snow creatures were left,

She suddenly caught a dash of red in her eye, and saw Cardinal, a bit battered but not badly, sprawled on the ground. Hurrying over to it, Haruna gently picked up Cardinal, and draped the creatures arms over her shoulders, so as to carry her on her back. Cardinal weighed what had to be at least sixty pounds  .

, and was a bit to heavy for Haruna to carry any other way.

But where was Nox? Where was her tiny little bat?

The White Wind noticed Yamashita, they were far enough away from the village now that his singular conciousness was easy to pick among the relative silence of nature. He stops and slowly levitates downward, until he was only a few feet off the ground. Then he watched Yamashita approach.
"So, it appears I have a fan."
He crosses his arm across his chest and performs a mockery of a bow,
"I don't think we've been introduced though, I am The White Wind, and you?"

Osamu withdrew an apricorn from his pouch and studied it.
"Do you think anybody will want to take the responsibility of trying to... control... this legendary bird?"
He puts the apricorn back into its pouch and continued,
"I mean, I really don't have any problems with just killing it once we get some information, I doubt it will be cooperative."

Yamashita was too worn out for a proper fight.

No, this is good. Keep him talking.

Yamashita bowed respectfully. "I am Kojiro Yamashita. Um... lovely weather we're having."

"That's not an invalid suggestion, but it has a long series of complications," Jem said, "Mostly stemming from all the tales surrounding these creatures. Some say they are outright immortal. The actual nature of this immortality is disputed with tales of outright invulnerability to istaneous or soon-ish reincarnation, ending with a pissed off legendary swearing vengeance on you and all of your descendants. Some say they are integral to controlling the forces of nature and killing it will make everything go tits up faster then you can say, 'It's the end times!' Other tales have the killer being marked for death by every magical creature that ever called this one God. So, still want to kill it?"

Jem pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. He pulled out an apricorn and dismissed Zaknafein. Then he pulled out an oddly colored apricorn, black with yellow markings. An unambiguously named Ultra Acorn.

"I'll take it prisoner," He said, "I have no illusions to control it although I may suceed in negotiating with it, working its freedom in exchange for information."

He didn't throw it, no need. He pressed the apricorn into her blue feather and let the magic try to suck her in.

"Well, it's a bit chilly..."
He burst out laughing at his own joke, then his face became somewhat serious. He appeared to be studying Yamashita. This was probably one of The White Wind's tricks, but he seemed disturbingly happy.
"So, what do you want?"

Osamu shrugged, "Killing it is a waste of potential but saves us a lot of time. All those myths are exactly what it says on the sign, a myth."
He watched the apricorn for a few intense seconds, and then Articuno slowly dispersed and was sucked into it's prison. The apricorn seemed strained, and surely would break once Articuno reached full again, but for now it was just barely sufficient.

Carrying Cardinal was far more exhausting than it should of been. But Haruna was not worried about her own physical wellness. She was worried about Nox.

Where in hell was he?

After scrambling around some more, Cardinal raised its head and jabbed towards some area. Taking Cardinal's advice, Haruna headed over to the specified area.

There was a blue creature, with a pair of purple wings and fans. But it was not Nox. Was it?

The White Wind narrowed his eyes, "How about we play a game? I answer a question, you answer a question, three each, then I leave for now." He paused to look for confirmation from Yamashita, but then decided he didn't really need it either way. "Well, to start, I kill people. My reputation precedes me, so it seems logical they might get a little... shocked when I decide to pay a visit. Now, my question. What's your name?"

Osamu rubbed his chin. "I was sort of expecting someone to be here already, he must've ignored your call... most likely he will show up eventually, we could really use some help containing this monster when it wakes up." A sharp spike of untrained psychic energy emitted from Osamu's position, "That should get him over here."

Yamashita hesitated for a moment. He knew he had to speak very carefully.

My name, huh? Yamashita recalled having already introduced himself. Maybe the wizard meant something else. It was probably best to play along.

"My name is Kojiro Yamashita."

Yamashita prepared his question.

"In detail, in terms of likelihood and feasibility, what is the best way to kill you?"
