I'll play the Africans, then; their culture was a sizeable component of my Universe of the Arts class in Cegep (although nowhere near as big as it could have been, thanks to the European bias of my teachers), so I have some understanding of the various groups that make up the African peoples.
Now if I can just find those textbooks, I'll be all set...
The Danse Macabre CodexAwesomeness.
As I don't think anyone responded, where in Africa is this set?
"One thing, though- apparently the eldest goat is the bastard child of Muhammad Ali and the Hulk." ~ Exelixi, on The Three Billy Goats Gruff.Gonna have to ask the same question—where it's set will influence my portrayal of the resistance.
The Danse Macabre CodexAfter flipping through my old textbooks, and remembering that most African cultures were Animistic, I'd have to say that most of their Diesel Punk tech, while powered by internal combustion and fossil fuels, would be alive in some sense; after all, the primary belief of animism is that everything, whether living, dead, inorganic or part of nature, has a spirit and lives.
Also, the primary reason I ask the exact location is that, prior to the arrival of the British, Muslims from the Levant established far-ranging trade routes throughout much of Africa in the 14th century and converted roughly a third of the continent to Islam. Thus, depending on where it is set, the African resistance might be friendly to the Mossad and/or not have a culture to reinstate.

The Danse Macabre CodexIf we're sticking to where the actual North African campaign took place, we're mostly on the northern coasts of Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt, maybe with some forays deeper into the desert (battle at the Great Pyramids?).
Or maybe some of the places seen in Indiana Jones, when he is hunting the Ark.
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the lineOkay, so that cuts out Egypt and Nigeria, but on the plus side this averts the whole Islam problem as most of the converted territories were within the Sahara...
that narrows it down somewhat, gives me more room to work with. Thank you; now I can play with anything from roughly Benin to Zimbabwe
.
I want it near the coast for my characters to work properly, as well. Although they don't need to be there for long, just start there.

No, wait, I've got it— Zanzibar! (a.k.a., modern-day Tanzania)
The Danse Macabre CodexCool. I care little as to where exactly it is, barring that it is on the coast
"One thing, though- apparently the eldest goat is the bastard child of Muhammad Ali and the Hulk." ~ Exelixi, on The Three Billy Goats Gruff.Don't worry about that—Zanzibar is smack-dab on the coast of East Africa. Now if you'll excuse me, Tanzania was not one of the African nations covered in my course, so I have to do more research on the subject...
The Danse Macabre CodexBe patient, Ridley. It will be up soon enough, I imagine.

"One thing, though- apparently the eldest goat is the bastard child of Muhammad Ali and the Hulk." ~ Exelixi, on The Three Billy Goats Gruff.Just done some research on Tanzania. This is but a small sampling of the country's wildlife:
Big cats (cheetahs, leopards, lions), zebras, striped- and spotted-hyenas, nine separate species of mongooses, countless different species of bat (mainly fruit but also a few carnivores, some of which get really big), Savannah hares, numerous rodents (mice, rats, porcupines
), the common chimpanzee, Galagos, Colobus monkeys, killer whales, dolphins, dugongs, bush elephants, antelopes, African buffalo, warthogs, hippopotami, gazelles, blue wildebeest, kobus and of course the A-A-R-D-V-A-R-K!
What can we infer from this regarding the terrain/environment of Tanzania?

The Danse Macabre CodexYou could just look at the "Geography" section of the Wikipedia article for that...
Mountains in the north east. West of that (Serengeti National Park today) is savanna and rainforest. Even further west (borders with Kenya/Uganda) is Lake Victoria. A large plateau at the centre, with woodland and arable land. Another lake in the west. Hot and humid at the coast.
So, if we need water, ocean or lakes?
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the line

Is all good. I'm leaning towards the fey/mystic side myself, so they should compliment each other. Now, who is playing as the African Resistance?
