SMT: Persona RP Signup and Rules

WE ARE NOW BACK IN BUSINESS EVERYONE! Revised, I hope the RP seems a little more of an exciting concept than before.

Before I explain the main story of this RP, I will explain what it is based on. Basically, this is derived from the Persona branch of the series Shin Megami Tensei, which has several different sub-series under it's name.

The main premise of the Persona branch being that you summon mythological demons, monsters, dieties, and so on that reflect your inner self based on the 22 major Arcana from tarot cards.(Though in the 1st and 2nd Persona games this didn't matter.)

Now on to the plot:

It was June 2012, the 4th. The Coordinated Universal Time was 8:48 AM. The day of a Lunar Eclipse. it was a bizzare phenomenon, to say the least. The sky was clear, and red. The oceans were violent. The entire Earth seemed like it was experiencing an apocylapse. As if chosen at random, several across the world collapsed. Something was awakening inside of them. Strange dreams flooded the minds of those now graced with a Gift that lies dormant.

It is now November 28th, 2012, Coordinated Universal Time 12:15 PM. Another Lunar Eclipse. One region has started to have a number of mysterious happenings. Citizens of this area have started to act strangely. Random bystanders blacking out, awakening to find themselves in weird areas, People have gone missing, and most of all, some have accounted of experiencing a nightmare in where they were in a world parallel to this one, all other humans around them were like ghosts, and a red moon stayed a dominant position in the sky.

I shall now clarify details. Everyone has their power of Persona, called the 'Gift'. You can use your powers both in the real world, and the distorted region, called the Eclipse World.

The Eclipse World is a different dimension overlaping with the world. This has caused unusual disturbances, as the world seems to grow the more dreams and memories it catches from the townspeople's minds. It drags even those without the Gift into this world, making them pray to the demonic monsters that lay within....

The Shadows. These monsters are made up of sour, raw, and bitter emotions from the pit of a person's mind. While they can't physically attack those without the Gift, They can attack them mentally, causing a great declline in health and leadng to the deaths of several who have actually managed to come back from the Eclipse World alive. The only ones who can defeat these creatures are those Gifted.

Those with the Gift, or in better terms, a Persona-User, are regular humans who have been chosen by omniscent beings to fight against Shadows. A Basically a mask of the User's personality, manifested by the 22 Major Arcana. while they can physically harm Shadows, Shadows can physically harm them.

Whenever a new part is added to the Eclipse World, a giant Shadow, made up of only the strongest emotions of a human. These creatures take up domain and can cause so much Disortion that the fictional area, and all the Shadows in it, can invade the Real World.

Suffice to say, It would be a greater idea to attack them before this happens than after, which is why several Persona-Users are now using their rather unique Gifts for better or worse, making teams with others of the same caliber to reach what ever goal there is to reach and find out what is really going on around this town.

Sign-Up Sheet:

Name: Reid (I don't think I need to explain names, you can choose to use a last name or not.)

Age: 17(Your character can be any age, of course.)

Hometown/Past Location: North America-East Coast(Since this will basically taking place in an Everytown, America some part of the United States, this will only really matter if you are from another part of the globe, who has travelled to this one area. If a character's still in school, then it should be that they either live inside the town or some reason to be there)

Appearance: A dark blue Jacket, white undershirt, blue jeans, and white Sneakers. Light brown skin-color, dark-brown nappy hair, dark brown eyes.

Personality: The Fool Arcana. Living through his days as a loner, Reid dosen't really speak his mind to most, and rather shows how stronger actions are than words. He is mostly unreadable to others. Whenever he does speak, he does it in the most blunt, strangest way imaginable. (Here you list your Arcana and your character's personality. Note: No, you cannot be of the World/Universe Arcana.)

Persona: Prince Arthur, Element is Physical, Strong against Physical and Light attacks. He is weak against Dark. Combat-type. (Your Persona can be anything mythological, whether from different religions, stories, whatever. Your Element is what type of power your Persona uses. And type is what your Persona is more oriented to. Combat-Type Personae are more for use in fighting, while Support Analyzes enemies and support the party, usually not very strong. Balanced-Types are the rare few who can both fight and Support others at a moderate level. They cannot endure much damage, and are not able to analyze, they are the best at using Buffs and De-Buffs, and more suited to disabling their opponent and using magic.)

Background: Silent and serious, Reid always plans his life ahead of time, and when he thinks of a new goal, tears the old one down. After the Lunar Eclipse, he started to notice how things have been changing recently. Every night he has been getting visions of what happened on that one day. Running away from home, he followed his mind and came upon the small town by the name of Fairview.

Well, I'd be interested, at least a bit. I played Shin Megami Tensei on the SNES for a while, but haven't played Persona at all, so there's that.

S-Someone...actually joined!...I-I thought after no one posted for a whole month that meant my idea for an RP sucked!

I just bought P4 recently, actually. I look forward to this. However, let's wait for a few more people to join. Also, have we just shot the story in the foot by setting a character in Ohio? While no, it's not just a bunch of farms, NOTHING EVER HAPPENS HERE!!

Eh, It dosen't matter if it's in Ohio for now..really, new areas will open up over time across the world, and anyone with their persona can easily transport to other continents when they are disorted.

Also, about the original Shin Megami Tensei for the SNES, Persona is only a little different in the fact that that instead of fighting the religious and cultural demons and making them your allies, you actually control them at the start!

Of course, Ohio is easily comparable to less rural Inaba.

Two questions.

1. What the fuck does...

To have full control of your Persona's ability your character must first become overwhelmed by their personality. Their desires and dreams will exaggerate, and they will be enveloped by these feelings, causing them to become a highly advanced Human Shadow infusing both their Arcana and their inner self(Has to do with your ambitions and desires), this causes disortion in their region, forming a parallel dimension that looks like the days of the Eclipse. This region will then be overall added to the dimension, forming the Eclipse World over time.

...mean? Do we face some sort of personal challenge while in a mini-eclipse zone or something?

2. Do abilities, weaknesses/strengths have to be 100% from the games?

1. Yes, that is exactly what I planned...is it a little too over-the-top?

2.No, they don't have to be 100%, although weaknesses and strengths are depending on the element of your Persona. Which, also as long as based on something mythological or cultural can be anything....though it would be good to use Demons and Personae from the regular games too.

Yeah the exaggerated dreams and human-shadow fusion thing threw me off.

Well, it's kind of like being possessed. You still have complete control over yourself...Do you think I should totally scrap that idea or should just revise it?

Here's my attempt:

Name: Elias Tooley (but that's "Mr. Tooley" to you, youngin')

Age: 34

Location: Australia (Haven't quite researched enough, I'm thinking a rural area though)

Appearance: Large and muscular, a military haircut topping his balding head. He oft wears an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt, the sleeves barely fitting around his large biceps. Under is a white wife beater, and over is a safari vest. Khaki shorts and combat boots (personally made of tanned Yowie hide, mind you) take up the lower half of his wardrobe, held up by a somewhat obnoxious belt buckle shaped like a Bison's head. He carries around a bowie knife and desert eagle.

Personality: Strength Arcana. Believing might makes right and often solving his problems by physical force. This doesn't have to manifest in violence, and Elias is often nice and helpful, however he's not the brightest, and as such it's easy to confuse him or keep him from understanding.

Persona: The Megalania, Element is Physical, making him able to perform Strong physical attacks. Combat-type.

Background: A body-guard and (should you have the right amount of cash,) sometimes something shadier, Elias has always dealt with danger, though usually it was of the more mundane variety. However, since this Lunar Eclipse thing that all the news stations got up in a hustle about, he's had to fight against Bunyips, Tasmanian Tigers, and Drop Bears (though only once or twice, and he's pretty sure they were just koalas, and his mind was playing tricks on him.) Elias has even become something of a big game hunter because of it. Currently, he is looking for the toughest demon, so that he can fashion a boot out of it's hide.

I figure since I've not much knowledge about this persona thing, but a bit about the universe and just general demonology, angelology, and cryptozoology, I should set up Tooley to be in a similar place. Which basically ended up in me rolling The Big Guy to your guys' The Hero and The Smart Guy.

I also imagine Elias being something of a Boisterous Bruiser.

Moriatti. The Arcana are from the 22 Major Tarot Arcana. There is no "Brute" Arcana. the closest one is "Strength" or possibly "The Devil". Also there is no "Brutal" element, your Persona would be a Physical-type like Light's.

• Name: John Crimson

• Age: 20

• Location: American Midwest.

• Appearance: A thin, pale-skinned, sharp-eyed, young man with smoothed-back dark hair (think Luck). Not one for flashy clothes, he is often seen wearing a black hoodie, or a simple T-shirt in warmer weather, jeans, and white sneakers.

• Personality: The Chariot Arcana. Despite his willowy looks, Crimson is a fiercely determined individual with amazing amounts of willpower. Obsessed with victory and excellence, he strives to do whatever within his own power to achieve them. Because of this he can be rather stubborn and self-centered, though he by no means impulsive. He knows the value of sitting down and thinking, as that is often the best way to victory.

• Persona: Sleipnir, a Fire elemental Persona that is strong against fire and ice, but weak against wind. A hybrid support/combat type with powerful buffs, fire spells, and strong physical attacks.

• Background: A college student and aspiring martial artist, Crimson is very good at hand-to-hand combat with a strange knack for polearms. Very much stronger than he looks. Other than that he has lived as an ordinary person, albeit one constantly looking to prove himself. Recently his school has temporarily closed down, and Crimson has been left to nothing but stir at home. Yet, for some reason, the events at last summer's Lunar Eclipse keeps nagging at his mind...

Mmkay, I approve Moriatti's if the World is changed to Strength Arcana, as Description-wise it pretty much describes Strength. Also The Wrold is pretty much one of the very high up Arcanas, and it dosen't really fit..

I also approve of Neo Crimson's, as I think everything fits together perfectly.

Finally, I have made SMT:Persona-The Year of The Eclipse

Name: Nathan Artair

Age: 18

Location: Somewhere in the Rockies (and in the US)

Appearance: Pale skin, a bit on the slim side, although he can't fathom why. Wears glasses that look not entirely unlike Yosuke's, although for vision correction purposes. Dresses a bit light in winter, typically preferring not to layer (except when skiing). Most of his shirts are blue or green.

Personality: Justice Arcana. Put simply, he believes in doing the right thing, and when the right thing isn't clear, using logic to work it out based on his beliefs. Naturally gifted in academics... with the exception of history. This rather odd combination, combined with occasional urges to act on impulse, causes him to be labeled as a little eccentric (not an Understatement. Really.)

Persona: Achilles. Ice element Persona that is weak to Elec and Dark. least moderately resistant to other elements to make up for this. Combines defensive and Ice skills, with some healing.

Background: A college student. Due to the academic rigor of his university, Nathan rarely had time to engage in social activities... so when he does, he makes it count (but never with alcohol, even if it was legal. Logic tells him the long-term health benefits outweigh the short term enjoyment). Seems to have a knack for 1-H Swords.

No idea on the Arcana still. EDIT: Justice. Excellent.

I would say that you fit the Justice Arcana.

I am interested in this Forum RP, though pardon if I do something wrong, this is my first Forum RP.

Name: Shamisen

Age: 4 human years.

Location: North America - Columbus Ohio

Appearance: A male calico kitty.

Personality: The Devil Arcana. After the experience described in the background section, Shamisen now has Belial's plans and ideals behind him, leading him to be self-centered and egotistical, with a fiery temper and no regard for others.

Persona: Name: Belial Element: Fire Weaknesses: Ice, Light (has Endure Light) Resists: Darkness Absorbs: Fire Type: Combat, focusing on Fire (has Fire Boost, soon to be Fire Amp) and Dark (soon to get Mudo Boost) spells, along with a few basic buffs.

Background: During the first lunar eclipse, Belial, lord of flame, is assaulted by many of his shadows and demons in a textbook display of mutiny. When the eclipse ends, he is stranded on Earth due to the chains placed upon him by the shadows. Shamisen is walking by and happens upon Belial, who, in an effort to escape his restrictions, possesses Shamisen. However, due to the inherent obstinacy of all cats, Shamisen is able to tame Belial and use his powers, but inherits his ideals. He then returns to his home with Stephen Shaw and explains to him what had occurred, using the voice of Belial to communicate with his owner. His plan is to kill as many shadows as possible and re-affirm his position as King of Bel.

Well I hope that isn't too awful. The unique way of getting a persona/being possessed raises a few questions about how this occurs. Also, I suppose this is being based off an alternate reality where Belial becomes King of Bel.
