Indie-pop band MAP just put out a free greatest-hits album.
I didn't write any of that.Similar to bandcamp somewhat... http://cllct.com/ has a lot of indie rock/folk/lo-fi artists, all for free.
They're off the streets now, and back on the road on the riot trail. http://www.last.fm/user/sca_punkThe bluegrass / Gypsy jazz ensemble Absynth Quintet recorded a live show and put it up for free download.
HOLY CARP these guys can jam. And cover They Might Be Giants songs.

I didn't write any of that. This is probably my favorite album I've found for free: BLÆRG - Everything Was Altered It's like if you were to take a breakcore album and replace all the samples with softer jazzy stuff. It's really good, it's free, go download it.
Bands I like that have free albums on bandcamp:
- AM Architect (Hip-Hop, Downtempo)
- Blamstrain (Ambient Dub)
- White Rainbow (Experimental ambience- kind of like Emeralds or Oneohtrix Point Never and also not at all)
- Horizon Fire (Sounds exactly like Bo C, but it's really great stuff)
I'm learning the markup language. :P Hurrah

Jazzy breakcore? I like that description a lot.
checking that out.
Been meaning to check out White Rainbow's stuff for a while now.
He's pretty great, but I think it'd be better to start with his (not-free) LP's. However, my favorite albums from his Bandcamp would have to be Boring Guitar Music (Exactly What It Says on the Tin), Sea Thru (ambient drone), and Night Tracer (reminiscent of Oneohtrix Point Never).
Downloading BLÆRG right now...
I didn't write any of that.Sweet.
I found another good one today: Ilkae. I guess you could call it "IDM" (whatever that means), but it's just kind of weirdish electronic music. I'm listening to Stained Glass Piñata right now, and I am very much enjoying it.
Isn't Bandcamp great?
It sure beats downloads with last.fm, that's for sure.
This BLÆRG album is very nice. It reminds me a bit of Alaska's Mesozoic Era, or Squarepusher at his most mellow.

Just found a bunch of good stuff on Free Music Archives.
- Frank Dorittke: Mare Tranquillatis. It's tagged as "Krautrock, Ambient Electronic, Space-Rock".
- Revolution Void: The Politics of Desire. I guess it's nujazz and trip-hop.
- The Insider: All's Fair in Love of Wax. Instrumental hip-hop.
Found a whole label which puts it's stuff out for free. Most of it is ambient electronic (and not all that bad, either): http://fslab.net/passage/
Sounds interesting. I'll give it a look.
Bas Van Nuizen - 'Plooibaars'. Ambient-drone. All kinds of awesome. You can listen to his other albums there, but this one is a free download.
Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!I like Jikkenteki's Flights of Infinity and... not much else.
I didn't write any of that. The new single from And So I Watch You From Afar (and I think I'm allowed to call them a Music Board Favourite, there are at least 4 ASIWYFA fans on here) is available to download for free, nada, zero, zilch, at this link. Enjoy.

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!OldJack - Gone Before You Know
A free EP by a pretty good local band, kind of in a Black Crowes-ish, soulful southern rock vein. Also, it took me way too long to figure out their name is (probably) a play on "new jack".

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.
no mention of the free music archive yet?
But anyway, there are several free albums on bandcamp, such as kitsune^2's star road
Isn't realist just a word a cynic calls himself?
