[up]Aren’t the Beast Wars era guys were mostly human size? Megatron flat out calls the original era Energon guzzlers.

I've been wondering about that myself honestly. Either there's gonna be a lot of Mass shifting on all sides, or something else will be going on, cause there can't really be any meaningful interactions between the two sides if the BW crew or the G1 crew are to scale.

Then again, this is Transformers. Scale is more a....courteous suggestion than an actual aspect of physics you need to adhere to.[lol]

Seems to be what their going for. Though it is a poster so maybe it's not supposed to be 1:1

Also the voice acting improved greatly from last season. Though I still feel the episode number is too low. Theirs so much interesting stuff going around here that deserves to have more time devoted to it.

Sky links was a very interesting character that they could have done more with for example

Agreed on Sky-Linx. He's always kinda been a noble asshole, but in this series, the nobility and the assholeness were packaged separately, unlike in the original series.

Considering this is a new series I imagine the Beast Wars characters are going be significantly larger this time around. Also, what's with those bone guys?

So, does anyone have any specific Transformers they want to see for the next series? They can be old characters who you want to see shine, new characters who haven't gotten an opportunity yet, even characters from the anime side of things.

Me....I'm rooting for Monstructor (the Decepticon Pretender Monsters, or Monstructor Six as they were known in IDW).

Not sure if he needs to be quite the horrifying Eldritch Abomination he was made to be in IDW, but this mother needs to get on T.V. and scare the shit out of kids worse than season 3's Dark Awakening.cool

I'd like to see a Whirl who's more in line with his original characterisation. I also want to see the original Terrorcons and Technobots (with the inclusion of Scrounge like some recent toylines) make a comeback.

Original Whirl was both a Wrecker and very crazy wasn't he?

Well, I guess if I can ask for Monstructor, Classic Whirl ain't so out there.

It's so weird seeing Chris' stuff here.

I remember when he was doing his Digimon reviews. He also did a review of the first episode of Car Robots in Disguise back in the day, and I knew he was a big Transformers fan as well.

I've been enjoying both his stuff and Rodimus Primal's stuff as well. I wonder if they'll ever do a collaboration at some point.

Also, I'm not sure who, but I'd like to see some more of the anime characters cross over as well. Maybe Rail Racer. Car Robots In Disguise had some great robot designs in my opinion, and Rail Racer is one of my favourite combiners.

[up]x5 Whirl's original toy bio described him as only acting unhinged during combat as a form of psychological warfare but the first IDW series seemed to make him legitimately mentally ill.

Oh. That's good.

Man, IDW was super steeped in Darker and Edgier wasn't it?

Glad the new 2019 series is apparently toning that down, or at the least, making the characters grey while not making them near villains.

He wasn't a villain though, he was an Autobot through and through.

Just off his rocker, the poor guy.

[up][up] That was my biggest complaint with the original series, particularly in regards to the Decpticons. Being Darker and Edgier meant that they shown them doing utterly horrible atrocities and yet after the war they kept trying to paint the Decepticons as sympathetic and Not So Different from the Autobots despite all this.

The new IDW series is outright showing the Decepticons as evil and not claiming that the Autobots are no better than they are.

Though I'm guessing the Autobots still aren't perfect either?

Cause I'm ok with that, but I do want them to somewhat resemble good guys. Or at least dudes trying to be good guys.

That's kinda why I like the bond they form with humanity. Having to protect others from their war arguably prevents them from Jumping Off the Slippery Slope and becoming as bad as the enemies they fight.

Though I suppose that's not totally needed. Cyberverse showed the Autobots can maintain their good nature without needing to be shown hanging out with humans, but I still kinda miss that interaction between the two races. Like, there's no reason to have the series air on earth if you aren't going to use humans after all.

[up] That seems to be the case so far given the Autobots have been showed to be flawed but still largely heroic, Sentinel Prime exemplifies this the best in my opinion.

I just read the stuff about Sentinel in 2019 IDW.

He certainly sounds like less of an asshole than his 2005 IDW self (or his animated self for that matter). He still makes a lot of mistakes, but it sounds like he's trying to do the right thing.

In fact, I do have to ask something: how corrupt is the 2019 society compared to the previous universe? Cause with out that massive corruption, doesn't some of Megatron's rhetoric lose a bit of it's punch? Like, I read that Sentinel shut down the Gladitorial games in this version? So it sounds like he's a much better leader than most version of him that came before, so what is Megatron rising up against exactly?

[up] The pre-war cybertonian government of the 2019 series has some issues like it's somewhat stifling tendencies and it's fixation on conserving fuel even though it might no longer be necessary but it has a very egalitarian mindset as cybertonians are free to choose their own path in life regardless what alternate mode they have and they also have diplomatic relations with other civilizations and non-cybertonian immigrants living on the planet as well as a seemingly decent standard of living and free speech.

As for the Deceptions (or Ascenticons as they were originally called) they aren't portrayed as a group of freedom fighters but as a duplicitous political faction that's been starting riots and covertly undermining the government in an attempt to take over.

Heh. So the Decepticons are straight up bad guys here?

....I kinda miss the aspect of them as Freedom Fighters who became what they fought against, but I'm glad for this as well.

A little Gray-and-Gray Morality is good, but I feel like the franchise has been leaning into the Decepticons are the real good guys angle for far too long

Also, by making Cybertron a better society than it was before, it makes its loss....meaningful. This isn't world that's corrupt to it's very core (even before Megatron shoves Dark Energon up Primus' ass) but a truly beautiful world in a truly beautiful golden age that was destroyed by the selfishness of a few.

This gives me hope for how the Autobots will interact with Humanity if the series reaches that point. Things won't be quite as Conflict Ball-esque as the the previous series, and that's all right with me.

Also, continuing my what bots do you want to see in the next series idea, I'm going for both Victorion (the first all-female combiner), and her (manga only so far) decepticon counterpart Megatronia.

I mean the Freedom Fighters origin has been used multiple times already.

That was their origin in the previous continuity even. What is there to miss?

Gave them a little depth. They started out as something legitimate, but lost their way.

But then again, if Cybertron isn't the gold wrapped shit hole it's been portrayed as in the previous continuity, the Decepticons as legitimate freedom fighters makes little sense, so I suppose it's better to ditch it.

This does mean that for the first time in years, the Autobots will wage their battle to the destroy the (legitimately) evil forces of the Decepticons rather than both sides being kinda assholes, with the bots being only slightly better.

Kinda nice to have good guys and bad guys again. Sometimes you need to know who you're rooting for. Lord knows it's damned hard in real life.

[up][up] The original G1 cartoon stated the the Deceptions were military hardware while the Autobots were made for civilian uses. The cons wanted to conquer Cybertron and later the galaxy and the Autobots are trying to stop them. I think its implied that Animated and The Bumblebee Movie have a similar backstory given that most of the Deceptions in both transform into military vehicles and have built-in weaponry while the Autobots transform into civilian vehicles and either use repurposed tools or have hand-held guns. Bumblebee makes the implication stronger by having the Deceptions refer to the Autobots as a resistance, which to me suggests that Cybertron either used to be a military dictatorship or they used to be tye planet's military that led a coup and the Autobots are a mostly civilian rebel group fighting back.

Anyway, I think that the original IDW Decepticon origin has gotten much more questionable in the wake of the George Floyd protests given that it was a civil rights movement against tyranny that turned into a bunch of genocidal facists.

Fair enough.

I was kinda wondering if real life had an effect on it.

It also makes sense that bots made to be the military would...well look for a war to fight.

That works.
