Is there really much of a difference between these two tropes: enough for them to be separate? In the former, a person with a secret identity has become his own rival in love because the target of his affection snubs him and is in love with his secret identity. In the latter... a person with a secret identity has become his own rival in love because yadda yadda.

You see what I mean? I can't think of many ways that Loves My Alter Ego couldn't be a Two-Person Love Triangle, and I'm not seeing many ways for a Two-Person Love Triangle to not be Loves My Alter Ego.

Like, it's not an issue of one being a subtrope, it's more like the two are the same trope.

I have a message from another time...

Agree. Although, I see the intended difference: Loves My Alter Ego is supposed to be about a character (who is involved in a two-person love triangle situation), Two-Person Love Triangle is supposed to be about a situation (involving a character who loves the alter ego of another).

IMO merge: title Two-Person Love Triangle (snappier name), redirect Loves My Alter Ego.

Looking at the tropes, Loves My Alter Ego is a subtrope of Two-Person Love Triangle.

Two-Person Love Triangle includes the situation of when you have an Arranged Marriage, and bride and groom (who have never met) both run away to escape the marriage and then meet and fall in love- putting them into a love triangle with themselves.

I don't think this arrangement makes sense.

Lets just keep Loves My Alter Ego (the better name). Cut Two-Person Love Triangle, and create a new trope to cover the Arranged Marriage couple who meet without knowing the other is the person they are engaged to.

[up] You mean like where Princess Aurora met this great guy and therefore objects to being forced to marry Prince Charming, but actually that great guy is Prince Charming? That isn't Loves My Alter Ego is it?

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

Two-Person Love Triangle found in: 43 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 57 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

Loves My Alter Ego found in: 126 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 59 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

I'm leaning toward keep Loves My Alter Ego and redirect Two-Person Love Triangle.

Fight smart, not fair.

[up][up]Exactly.

It's a two person love triangle, but it isn't a Loves My Alter Ego situation.

But I think it would be better to just have a trope that covers that situation rather then try to have a supertrope.

Ah, interesting point. But I think that is covered by Perfectly Arranged Marriage.

True.

But it is listed as a variation with a link to Two-Person Love Triangle.

Should we have a subtrope of Perfectly Arranged Marriage for this variation?
