We did have The Hustler on for a bit the other day, only problem was, no one was playing pool, so we changed the channel. The quote was actually the solution to a cryptogram I solved this morning. I like it too.

Niece and Brother have arrived unexpectedly and will probably be showing up every day until Thanksgiving. Frantic holiday cooking has begun!

Leradny: Yay for noms and family. That will be Tuesday and Wwednesday for me.

I can't wait for my shift to end. It is cold out here. The wind really whips around the buildings and it is that kind of cold that bites through clothing and flesh and leaves you feeling cold for a minute or two after you are exposed to it.

We're not doing the thanksgiving thing here this year, because it'll only be Alana and I, and Alana's back is a bit out. If we were feeling more up to it we'd do a "thanksgiving for the family-less" thing for anyone we knew, we've done it before.

At first when I came here, of course, this holiday meant nothing to me except for the joke response to any American asking what British people did for Thanksgiving: "Oh, we already had our Thanksgiving. Three months ago, to celebrate the bastards leaving!"

Now, it resonates a bit more, having been here for fourteen years. There's something of a "thanking the fates for the circumstances that brought me and those I love together" aspect I like. We're here, and mostly happy, and often together, and if that's not something to eat a dinner to and raise a glass to, what is?

We'll probably do something, though. Some restaurant Thanksgiving, probably, and a drink or two in the evening.

Alana has an art show arranged in a trendy North Hollywood bar, which is leaving her both ecstatic and fretting by turns. She'll be fine, but that's easy for me to say.

I don't think this is the first year that it's occurred to me that "Bless us All" from A Muppet Cristmas Carol is at least as much a Thanksgiving song as a Christmas song.

At a full-service restaurant with attentive waitstaff, I can put away two liters of root beer or lemon-lime in one sitting. Once I got a waitress who was clever and familiar enough with me to just serve it to me in a pitcher at the price for the cup.

What's with the alt, Buttercup?
