I remember working at a movie theatre. There was pretty much no such thing as a holiday off, except New Years eve was a half day.

Lots of families like to see movies during Holidays so you pretty much had to work part of every holiday unless you had a damn good excuse.

Van: Hey holiday pay my man. I am also a securityguard at a 24/7 site so we cover holidays. That time and a half holiday pay is really nice though..

Check your state laws and companies policy. Most places have mandatory holiday pay for certain holidays.

Huh. Really?

Is that still applicable if I'm just a part-time student employee at my university?

Possibly. Don't let them bullshit you about it either. Check the laws. Be aware there are exceptions though.

For example I only get holiday pay when I work on the Holiday.

@Maddie: you called it. Next time, she can plan it out better.

@Tuefel: that sucks, sir.

Anyhow...despite the Universe trying very hard to get in the way of it, DG took her drive test today, and passed. Tonight we celebrate; two bottles of mead, some sort of streamed movie, and then...cuddling.

Hey Cobs. I've taken a bit of a break from NaNoWriMoing furiously so that I won't be worried about it for Thanksgiving. Also because I am rather upset. It's not bad enough for the angst thread, though, just a realization.

Tuef: D'awww.

Blackmoon: It sure does mean the same for part-timers, as I learned when I was still working.

Mad: Dang, I have a hard enough time shipping canned drinks. There's no way I'd agree to shipping a turkey.

Drunk: Woo, passing a driver's test! If only I had a car to drive, things would be perfect.

"To get my holiday pay, I have to work on the holidays". Sad, yet true.

I haven't typed up my new material yet, and probably won't till after dinner, but at the moment I've gotten a shade over 30000 words.

Well it doesn't make any sense to pay someone for not working. :P

Sounds like solid progress. I had to stop because I lost my thumb drive device.

I don't see why you'd expect to have holiday pay not on the day. Though depending on the line of work I can see hazard pay being in order.

There are some employers who do pay you for holidays even if you don't work them. From what I understand they use this as sort of a bonus and at the same time they can call you in to work on holiday if needed.

Leradny: I was but I lost my thumb drive device which contained all my work. I was rather pissed. I will not finish in time. Instead I am going to rewrite everything and just do some editing and worry about it later.

Party has gone beyond good and entered the territory of awesome. The mead is gone; DG and I drank it and then danced it off. We decided more liquor was in order, so I drove to the local supermarket and bought what our treasury would support. To wit, the cheapest wine on the rack.

We are now drinking what I have termed a "Shitty Mimosa"; half-and-half Boone's Farm Fuzzy Navel and Andre champagne. It's better than it sounds like it would be. The whole is greater than the dumb of its parts.

Now, back to dancing. I think DG has videos of me flailing around to "Super Freak" by Rick James...I'm less ashamed of this than I probably should be.

Tuef: Awww. This is why I email my drafts to myself. The way I'm going, I'll have about ten chapters done this month, of a planned 25ish. So another two months of this and I'll be done with my first novel.

DS, DG: Pfffffff. I love your plaid curtains, though. They match DS' bandanna.

When I Nanoed last year, I backed up to Dropbox, my desktop, and my flash drive.

Did I have ridiculously short chapters if I figured one day's writing was about a chapter and a half?

[up]Woah, saw that before I saw Leradny's comment about the curtains. Thought there was a "curtains match the drapes" reference going on there.

My chapters are 5000ish words on average, so it takes roughly 3 days for me. And in my opinion 1000 words is quite short, but others say I have long chapters so I dunno.
