Yuan: most of the Asian dumplings I have had use a noodle-like dough. The dumplings we are talking about use a dough that is like American biscuit or shortcake dough (without sweetener). They are cooked in broth and absorb some of it but also thicken it at the same time. Like gravy.

And in the case of the dish I had last night, it wasn't simply a clear or lightly-thickened broth, it was a milk-based gravy-like stuff. So, really rich, breadlike dumplings in really rich cream sauce. Too much "really rich" in one serving.

Yeah. Gut couldn't handle all the fat.

The indigestion-induced dreams were fun, however.

I need new shoes. Two minutes out in the rain in these and my socks are soaked through. Fuck.

And I have to wear them for the next seven hours, whoo~

Does your school have a theatre department with a costume shop that isn't on another campus? If so, they may have a dryer they may let you use to dry your socks if it isn't the week before the show opens. If you can ascertain that it isn't the week before the show opens and there aren't any sounds that herald doom, offer them chocolate.

If you microwave your socks be stealthy, people get grossed out by that. Also, newspapers absorb water well if wadded up.

Ah, all lovely fixes, but I don't think they'd amount to much. None of the buildings on campus are connected except for the Science and Engineering Building and Dodge Hall; I have to go between five different ones today, and it's not the easiest thing to microwave my socks in every building I walk into. [lol]

Especially with stealth.

Also, go buy shoes tonight.

No time. It's definitely on my schedule for this weekend, though.

I'd feel a little more accomodating to her plight if she were quieter about it.

I would reply politely with a CC to her professor and your immediate supervisor and anyone else you can think of up the chain of command. She needs to be slapped back for rudeness but let the professor handle it, hence the CC.

Or be a tech dick and "lose" the email. But the passing it up the chain lets you keep your job.

There is also a subtle intimidation in letting someone know that other people are seeing what they wrote.

I had a day back in middle school when I waited fifteen minutes for the bus in heavy rain. I tried using the hand drier in the bathroom to dry my socks, but I think I overheated it, because it cut out a little bit into the second sock.

I once melted a hairdryer trying to dry out my shoes. There was a 20 minute walk from the college to the lab rooms and lecture theatres at the uni, and it was absolutely pouring that day. Had to traverse that walk four times, to boot.

In grad school there was always a long wait for that first stipend check, my shoes were shot and it was a very rainy fall. Fortunately, I worked in the costume shop and was able to borrow a pair of turquoise Converse until payday. I still have the pair of shoes I bought with that check and I've had them resoled once.

I returned the Converse but just discovered that the hoodie I am wearing was something I didn't return. Whoops.

I am asking the Cobbies for good voodoo. I applied for the perfect job and would really like the interview, send any spare good vibes my way.

Thank you so much!

This is my favorite sentence:

Worshippers often have a cement head with a metal spike in the top, and cowrie shells for eyes and mouth, as a representation of Ellegua which receives offerings and protects in return.

In many cases, worshipers have a cement head with a metal spike. I suspect the missing term is figurine.

Well, I'm not having any difficulty accepting that voudon worshipers have cement heads.
