Synecdoche?

is that like a rude math function? Because that's what it sounds like.

It's applying part of one thing to represent the whole thing. i.e. "Step on the gas to get the car going." Or is that metonymy?

Hmm, my example wasn't a good one. Though that's definitely what synedoche means. Metonymy uses things associated with another thing.

Try 'threads' as being about 'fashion.' That's synecdoche. The part representing the whole.

There is probably something Greek and obscure to describe the use of 'bad' in my last post.

If there is, it is a word I despise.

...are you drunk? Again?

Tuefel, I will refrain from asking more than do you actually play 40k (the tabletop) or just read the books, or just the video games? You have a lot of Space Marine stuff.

I ask no more in deference to Fast Eddie's wishes. Also, literary terms are kinda fun, even if I don't like English classes.

Could "We brought a buncha guns" be synecdoche when describing a shipment of bombs, rifles, artillery pieces and other such stuff?

@Maddy a while ago That was paint? Wow. Nicely done.
