They announced the Wii U just after my time with access to current-gen video games ended, so a little like the Gamecube, I didn't really get a chance to experience it while it was current.

Well fuck. One of my friends just grew me a passel of grey hair. One of my local friends said he was going to commit suicide after his fortunes have taken another nose dive. I decided he was serious enough to contact the authorities. I thought he was near his home but he was in another part of town. Thankfully he had a picture of where he was. Called 911 back and got the local cops out to him quickly. It was a near thing his last pic was of the view over the railing of the bridge over the river.

Thank all the gods he still has a normal fear of death as the serious thought of dying made him break down long enough for the cops to catch up. I talked to him and he is upset and wants to go home. A little mad I called the cops on him but I let him know I did it because I didn't him dead. I am the worst made Martini for Bond, shaken and stirred. I going to get something to eat and drink and then sleep. I haven't slept since getting off my shift hoping this wouldn't go south.

This was way too fucking close.

Holy crap that's scary. Get some rest, Teuf. You did the right thing. And I hope your friend gets the help he needs.

T-Hound, take some time for you - you deserve some rest.

In other news:

I broke down and bought a Rocketfish HDMI cable at ~8 feet long.

WOW - the audio and video qualify is a lot better than my old Belkin cable. Even on my 11-port dock, no loss of quality - the "blue spots" are gone. I'm a little disappointed in Belkin, usually they are good.

Also, it turns out that my old laptop may have had some...issues...with it's HDMI and sound chip....

Best Buy's sales guys and gals tried to talk me into a 7 FT $90 dollar(!) HDMI cable. I said NO.

I think I may re-use my old HDMI cable for a future 2nd monitor or I may get another Rocketfish HDMI cable...

I got a 3.5MM to 3.5MM cable for my soon-to-arrive sound bar. It's Best Buy's house brand "Insignia". Audio cables like that are the A/V equivalent of boiling an egg - hard to screw up.

So while I'm not sold on the "more expensive than unicorn blood" premium cables, Rocketfish seems to be a good brand.

There's "well-made" and there's "we packed this thing with so many useless premium features you'll be dazzled into dropping a whole paycheck on a damn cable".

Tip of the day:

If you have a flu or a cold, don't take a mucolytic before going to bed. You won't have a good night of sleep.

Spiral out, keep going.

Heat waves are raging in south-western Europe - France has seen temperatures approaching 42 degrees centigrade, in Switzerland reported temperatures hit 36.7 centigrades. Since 2015 or so summers here regularly turn fiery and it's not even school holidays yet...

It's more humid than hot here. There's been thunderstorms and rain showers almost every day.

Today I have the triple blessing not only of a pounding headache, but of two rail trips shared with loud school classes.

Going to take my younger cat to the vet this week. He's been panting, which with cats means one of three things: raised by dogs, high emotional distress, or a heart problem. And I can rule out the first two.

Poor little dude. Otherwise he's okay, but he's not even two yet.

Panting after activity. When I last took him outside on a leash (in the evening), after maybe 30 minutes he started panting. He's also done it after playing hard.

Cats don't really do panting from heat. Maybe because they're a semi-arid species.

Got the cat to the vet today. They did a thorough workup. Turns out it's just asthma! Not even bad asthma. Thank goodness.

They also caught some possible kidney trouble, so now I gotta get a urine sample.

That got me paranoid about our own ball of fur. She often pants after very long and intense playing sessions and last time we got her to the vet she panted like hell while sitting in her carrying bag (it was very hot that day).

Wouldn't hurt to mention it to the vet. Could also just be asthma.

So to get a urine sample, I was told to empty and clean a litter box, then put these non-absorbant beads in it (they gave me a paltry amount), and shut the cat in one room with said box overnight. So I did that. The little stinker just held it for eight hours.

Well, if I were him, I wouldn't want to pee in an almost empty box either. Bought some hydrophobic litter online that will maybe work better.

Went to a pub quiz yesteday evening after a gym day. Ordered a quesadilla, but it only strengthened my appetite, so I decided to follow it up with a plate of duck shish kebab. Turned out it was too much for my liver and pancreas, so I spent the following night pouring my soul into the toilet seat.

Our team finished third at that pub quiz, by the way.

Rough on the pub food though it sounds like it was tasty.

Just got our AC repaired after it being broken for a few weeks in hot weather. Had a temporary unit blocking access to my personal PC for a week. But we have normal AC now.
