Motrin and Ibproufen are the same thing. It doesn't do much for my bone and joint pains. It used to but one week I noticed it wasn't doing much and its effects just wore off. I then used Asprin and Naproxen Sodium and they both worked great.

The Doxy in the US would need a scribble from a doc because it has Codine in it, at leas where I have lived.

I'm a bit wary of taking aspirin, myself. It doesn't play well with others... Well, it kind of does. But, you need to keep tabs on the pancreas and the stomach lining when you do mix it. <_< And, if you're high of blood pressure, be very canny indeed.

I have some POTS-like symptomatology (not uncommon with CFS), so my blood pressure can be all over the shop at the best of times. So, I tend to keep away from the aspirin just in case.

In the US, codeine falls under the Controlled Substances Act. Given the mix you describe for Syndol, Euo, it sounds like it would be under Schedule III of the act, meaning prescription-only.

I am not a pharmacologist or legal expert, though, so don't take the above as Gospel. tongue

[up][up]It's one of the reasons it's currently hitting licensing issues in the UK. The company producing it was taken over... and it was promptly discovered that a few of the brands that had just been bought had not been updated to accommodated changes in licensing practices over the years. Ooops.

The codeine is the problem. I just wish it wasn't stymieing the doxy. <_< I can try doing everything separate, even down to the approximate dosage of each bit (with my GP's help, needless to say): but the generic formations just don't cut the mustard. I'm not the only one to have found this.

The other reason Tuefel doesn't use Codine. I hallucinate quite vividly.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) runs in my family on my momma's side. I have uncles who can't eat beef because it makes their joints swell.

Benadryl knocks me the fuck out. It's pretty nice. However it tends to give me weird dreams.

Speaking of codeine, that stuff and a shot o' Southern Comfort makes for a good time. Good idea? Absolutely not, but this was about a month after I had 25 teeth pulled, mouth was still killing me and the jackass dentist wouldn't renew my hydrocodone prescrip. The Tylenol-3's were not cutting it, so I gave em an extra kick. With some So Co.

Diphenhydramine doesn't really do too much for me in terms of knocking me out.

I do get a lot of headaches, so I do take my fair share of both ibuprofen and naproxen, either of which works fine. I don't really tolerate acetaminophen all that well though.

Due to some medications I am taking, I can only take Acetaminophen as a painkiller. It works, but it is not as effective at relieving muscle pain as ibuprofen is for me. To go to sleep I usually take some melatonin.

Advil for most everything, when I take it. I don't get along with almost all painkillers so I've got a knee-jerk leeriness of taking them. For the general soreness that comes from a day's work, a couple stiff drinks work better.

The only heavy-duty painkiller I can get along with - and it isn't a painkiller per se but it works like one for me - is Valium. Goddamn that stuff is amazing.

I go generally for Aleve or Motrin.

I love me some Ranger candy, but just doesn't work when the gout kicks in.

I use ibuprofen (Advil) for headaches and naproxen sodium (Aleve) for joint pain. I don't get other kinds of pain often enough to have a go-to, or even really name what they could be.

Recently if a headache is really bad I've gone for Motrin, which is acetomenophen and caffeine, I think. I know people who take Tylenol and a can of Coke for headaches.

It's good to be back online.

Although I do want to ask to anyone who might have an idea as to the answer:

  1. What was the cause of the outage?
  2. If it was unplanned / malicious, what steps will be taken to prevent such an outage in the future?
  3. If it was planned for server repairs / upgrades / functionality changes:
    1. Why was advance notice not given so we don't panic about "TV Tropes is down forever"
    2. What changes can we expect?

I get the idea it was just a technical failure. Most of the downtime was to fix hardware.

Fair enough. I mean neither disrespect nor to I intend to criticize, but when I mass outage for several hours such as this happens, I think it's not unreasonable for us to want to know what was going on behind the scenes.

If there was a hardware issue with the servers, I hope that in the future, steps are taken to help stop this from happening a second time, but I'm glad to see that it's back up and I feel confident that the higher ups were doing what they could to get things back up and running.

I'd have liked some more communication than the note on Twitter saying "we're working on it!" and a couple of mod posts on the Facebook page when it was almost done.

Ok, we (the mods) couldn't get to the site either. So there was really no way for us to post updates on what was happening. And Eddie was busting his ass trying to get it fixed, so making a lovingly detailed notice screen wasn't really high on his priority list.

It was a non-malicious hardware failure. For a while it looked like a server upgrade might be the only way to fix it. That's why the notice said "upgrade."

And while curiosity is completely natural, that's really all the details that need to be made public.

I completely get being too busy to do anything fancy, but could there maybe be a stock "We're making things happen right now" splash page that includes links to social media where mods can say "hey, the server fell apart" or "hey, we're experiencing a DDoS attack" or "hey, our hosting company's server farm fell into the sea"?

A re-direct to a page with a "Don't Panic" message would be keen. Maybe an emergency forum so people could send messages...and a backup Paypal page just in case. An emergency "Oh S__t!" page if the servers fall into the sea during a sharknado while Fast Eddie is fighting Bearsharktopus....
