I have three favorite Laws of the Universe when it comes to designing and setting up something, especially related to computers..
Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
Smith's Law: Murphy was an optimist.
Finagle's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will—at the worst possible moment

"The fact that your food can be made into makeshift bombs alarms the Hell out of me, Scrye." - CharlatanAnd that's what makes him awesome. He really works hard for the wiki. Also, I wasn't expecting this for another week, really, so Fast Eddie still lives up to his name.

Video Game Census. Please contribute.Okay, I'm getting too angry to make it through the entire thread, so I'm going to throw in what I want to say now.
I know of other Google-ad sponsored sites that are not family friendly. The Straight Dope Message Board, for one. Sure, they have tons of restrictions in the TOS about copyright and stuff, but they specifically warn that adult language and content will exist. And they've been checked multiple times. I don't understand why Google would try to stop us here.
Also, if Google is really going to be shitty, there's always seeing what Wikia will offer—even if only as a threat to Google. A site with as much geek cred as us (and the ability to hit the top of Google searches in less than a month) should not be something they'd be willing to lose.
Finally, I suspect that someone who got pissed off here turned us in. Google doesn't suddenly notice things. We've really got to get a handle on these trolls.
Everyone Has An Important Job To DoCould a mod link The Situation somewhere on the first page of the thread, like in FE's post? Some of your questions are answered there, T.
Also, I think FE gave an applicable insight on Google's attitude toward us in another thread, at least in terms of how Adsense customer service is (compared to the one we're trying giving us a human representative by default because of our size): "5 million page views a day? Snore."

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...Well, upon getting a hold of The Situation, (*rimshot*) I am truly liking every change proposed by Fast Eddie. Especially with the possible move to create the TV Tropes Foindation, All I can say is that the site's finally Growing the Beard.
Don't panic, Donate, give moral support, Thank Fast Eddie and all the admins, and keep Troping, everyone!
They have AWACS planes? Ship =/= Airplane >_>
That said, good luck, Eddie. Hope you get it working without too many explosions.

"The fact that your food can be made into makeshift bombs alarms the Hell out of me, Scrye." - CharlatanMight it be possible to redirect The Situation (blank mainspace version) to The Situation (actual administrivia version)? I tried but couldn't manage to make it work.

Release the checkout and I'll do it, Chalkos.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I have a sinus headache and have not had any caffeine today. So I understand. Anyway, that's done.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The "Don't Panic" quote on The Situation page reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Oh, and the name itself reminds me of Jersey Shore.
Yeah, it was a deliberate shout-out to H 2 G 2. Large friendly letters and all.

I suspect it has something to do with Fetish Fuel and/or Troper Tales. Alternatively, Google only enforces its policies against sites that aren't as well-known.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information. Also, up until recently anyone could edit anonymously, making it harder to hold any given user accountable for what they post.
Heapers’ Hangout

That was "The plan". The reality is it will happen when Eddie is satisfied with the code.
