So let me get this straight

Batman Begins has no '89-'92 series counterpart

The Dark Knight is like the Nolanverse equivalent of Batman, down to having The Joker,Harvey Dent, and the doubted actor is the most hailed one.

And judging by the reviews I guess this is the Batman Returns of the Nolanverse, seemingly too dark, having the Catwoman character, and Batman appears to have broken down.

Oh no! What if WB decides to make another reboot except Lighter and Softer,oh no,oh no *starts to hyperventilate*

Y'know what'd be awesome? If the movie began with a disclaimer telling everyone to claim the movie is the greatest thing ever and asking them to promise not to tell what really happens...

And then it's three hours of the 60's Batman theme on loop over and over and over again.

Unfortunately, I can see the reboot happening. It is not Beyond the Impossible, it is simply possible.

No, certain.

BTW, I should shorten my analysis of TDKR themes. On the internet, the rule is Too Long Didn't Rea

...That sentence is too long to finish

EDIT: That is a joke about my long-winded tendencies; hopefully doesn't insult anyone. Anyways, since on Wednesday, people will see TDKR, I will not be on Tv Tropes until I see the movie; starting Wednesday. I'm seeing it Saturday. Anyone else doing the same and forgoing troping?

Too bad they couldn't get Bane's old VA for that ad too. Sounds pretty lame in there.

Ebert posted his review: "It lacks the near-perfection of The Dark Knight, it needs more clarity and a better villain, but it's an honorable finale."

I'll likely agree. I was never expecting it to top The Dark Knight, but I'm excited nonetheless.

Rotten Tomatoes seems settled at 87%, "The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion, even if it doesn't quite meet the high standard set by its predecessor."

In about 2 and a half hours my local cinema will be having BB and TDK back to back before the midnight release for $10. I like this little city sometimes. :D

87%? Not bad, not bad at all.

Wait, that's lower than Avengers. damn it.

Personally, I think 86% (what the Tomatometer is at now) is a great score for a movie like this. Batman Begins was similar.

The reason I say this is that a lot of the reviewers who reviewed the movie negatively, reviewed the movie as such for being not as good as TDK in their opinion or being too dark and depressing. The majority of bad criticism were about things a movie like The Avengers would never have to worry about in a review.

Basically, what I mean is that a well-written save the world flick like The Avengers will get a lot of good reviews; because it is being compared to similar movies like Spider-Man. The Dark Knight Rises will be compared to not just superhero movies; but film noir, crime films and movies that make a person think as well as peoples' perceptions of the previous movies in the trilogy even if sometime they don't want to accept not all the movies in the trilogy will be similar (A common complaint in negative reviews I found was Bane is not interesting because he's not insane like Joker, for example).

I think I enjoy movies that are topical and thought-provoking and defy conventions, even if opinions will vary more rather than movies which follow guidelines to safely get good reviews; anyways.

Yeah, but it being lower that the Avengers means that I lost a bet.

Just came back from a midnight release. I am so going to talk about, cause I can't resist.    SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS    etc etc. Ignore this post if you don't want my opinions.

First off, many were wondering about the ending. After seeing it, I wondered if Christopher Nolan had ever played Final Fantasy Tactics, they were VERY similar. To no one's surprise, Marion Cotillard is indeed Talia Al Ghul, but its played in an interesting way as to make you think she isn't, more later. I shall go into story details later, but first

Performances - Stand outs:

  • Anne Hathaway: Had any doubts? Don't fear! The moment she drops her innocent act and trips a crippled Bruce Wayne, as well as her next scene where she tries to make a deal with one of Bane's goons, you can tell she absolutely nailed it. While the only scene they're willing to show in the trailers (the one at the masquerade party you often see) doesn't really show it, she's definitely the best Catwoman I've seen so far, even if they don't actually call her that in film. Supporting Actress award for her, definitely.

  • Michael Caine: This one is a bit tricky to explain, especially without spoilers. He's unfortunately not in too many scenes, maybe the same amount of screen time as the previous two but I'm not sure. However, whenever he's on, the movie really goes out of its way to develop his relationship to Bruce, and why it is so important to not only Bruce's health, but his own. There are two stand out scenes featuring him, which I personally feel were the highlights of the movie, simply because they absolutely shattered my heart. I would say that he was the best performance in the film, but he just doesn't have enough screen time.

  • Christian Bale: I feel this movie he really portrayed the human element of Bruce stronger then the previous films. As the film suggests, he is utterly broken, by both Batman and Bane. While his pain of losing Rachel and his parents always put a cloud of anger and despair on his character, being used as a fuel for Batman, the pain itself is very clear here. Well done, Bale. Seeing you suffer actually made me flinch at some points. Personally, I feel this movie does a much better job of exploring the negatives of being the Batman then the previous two ever did.

DESHI DESHI BASARA BASARA

  • Tom Hardy: At first, he feels like a generic bad guy. His motives aren't fleshed out much besides setting Gotham 'free'. The fight scenes between him and Bale are absolutely amazing. The crappy camera of BB? Gone. Perfect camera work went along with their fights. Not only this, but he really, really does an excellent job of displaying Bane's absolute power, when he completely and utterly destroys Batman, especially the iconic lift over head and shatter on knee. Yes, they kept that in the movie. And The Fandom Rejoiced. However! While his audio was clearly edited, I couldn't help but chuckle a few times when he spoke. It was clear, but it had that goggly innocence the Pyro has in TF 2. Some lines genuinely are sinister, but others are odd. During an important moment as he taunts Wayne, the 'permission to die' scene from the trailer, I couldn't tell what he was saying, but the general gist was there. He was without a doubt a force of nature, for sure. Near the end, he ALMOST, arguably, gains Alas, Poor Villain status, as the relationship between him and Talia is revealed, but that is arguably ruined soon after as he recovers. Great performance, but fairly generic.

  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt: He was fairly simple in the start, an honest cop, but then when he speaks to Wayne, revealing how he realized that Wayne was Batman, his character becomes a lot more interesting. His sincerity was a very nice touch to the film. By the way, he 'technically' becomes Robin in the film's ending, though only the revelation of his middle name. He does indeed carry on from Wayne's legacy

  • Gary Oldman: He was terrific in this film. Although he's not in the hospital bed for that long, he definitely comes across as a bad ass, and the frustrations of his character really shows, like Caine, another aspect of the character we haven't really seen before. Great job.

tl;dr Hathaway and Caine in my opinion were the best parts of the film, though Bale really does sell Wayne as a true tragic hero and Hardy does an exceptional role as a force of nature.

I feel like I'll leave the story and characters for another post. It really is its own beast. My rating for the film? 7.5/10. Maybe. I'm not good with numbers. It's kind of inbetween Batman Begins and The Dark Knight for me, being a strange mix of Batman Begins story telling and The Dark Knight's sheer scale, even if it isn't as full of snappy/classic/memorable parts as it's predecessor.

Indeed, it is kind of hard to review this movie as some of the great parts and the flaws are result of the way the story is told. Doing my plot review in a bit, there's a lot to say and I'm not sure if people want me to mention anything here lol. Talking about the actor's performance and the character's role in the plot is real different.

I have also seen it! But yes, it is difficult to talk about without spoiling things or resorting to walls of spoiler tags. I suppose it'll have to wait until the weekend for the real discussion to get going.

I will, however, say that I do need to see it again. And in IMAX since I was just in a regular theatre this time around.

...and wearing Catwoman heels means that random guys on the side of the road ask you back to their place. Ah that 3.30am post-movie crowd.

ETA Non-spoilery tidbit: In one scene there's a cop with the name-tag "Allen" who I think is meant to be this guy ala Gotham Central era. There's also a female Latina cop in the same scene who could be Renee Montoya, though I didn't see her name badge.

I would gladly watch the movie again, definitely. The acting alone, even if the pace feels off, is definitely worth it. It'd also be nice to fully catch what Bane is saying.

Maybe I'm slow, but I thought the movie didn't come out until the 20th? I know they had the big red carpet thing already, but I thought it didn't come out in other places until Friday?

Opened in Australia on the 19th. It is now 5.21am on Thursday 19th, so midnight screenings finished a couple of hours ago.

I don't even know how many people went to see it, but my local cinema was packed. I'm not sure how many screens it aired on, but it was quite a few.

My local cinema (the one with the trilogy) was surprisingly not as full as I expected - half the theatre maybe? Maybe it's because we're not that large a city, but I dunno.

Let me put it like this: The queue for the snack-bar was like halfway down to the actual theatres. I couldn't even get my choctop before it started. sad

The trilogy probably cut the audience a bit - Not many people have that much free time, especially if they need sleep.
